One of the interesting things of having known and used these systems of the recent past is that one really can see how much technology has advanced in such a short time. I mean, 40 years perhaps are a lot for a person biological life bur are nothing in terms of history

A fascinating film. I worked for Bell in Canada as an engineering student in the mid-sixties. They were in the process of converting from mechanical "step by step" switching to a "crossbar" system, depicted in this film, which was still a mechanical system but worked on a basis similar to today's electronic digital switch, thus enabling call forwarding, for example. The idea of world wide mobile phone networks wasn't even contemplated. Where will we be 47 years from now?
