The native American Berdache aren't exactly examples of homosexuality. They're actually a great example of how not all societies have only the "male/ female" genders. A better translation would be; "Two-Spirits" as "Berdache" is technically a derogatory term used by Western People who couldn't comprehend multiple social gender roles when they first discovered the Native American peoples.

@TheTruePooka I actually discuss two spirit people in the video and the berdache were primary more central american. It was taken from an arab word for male prostitute by the spanish and yea definitely derogatory because of the not understanding of multiple gender societies.

I think jdubs was referring to the dubious practice of labeling homosexuality as a social disease by the 19th Century European medical establishment namely by K.M. Benkhert (circa 1869) But I do give you kudos Dev for having the patience in engaging this guy who would be normally be labeled too stupid to live.

If I remember correctly before the arrival of Jesuits in the 17th century there wasn't even a word for homosexual or homosexuality in the Japanese language. It really is funny when people see the social mores that they were raised in as somehow 'natural' and 'the way things are'. A very parochial attitude
