I believe the singer on the film Roman Adventure was Frankie Fanelli. There's a Youtube version with him singing in the movie. Just put his name in the search box.
Oh my God I am crying a little to hear this beautiful song once again. @filmbuff57 you are so right about the italian language version being the most soulful and really heartbreaking. I remember this from when I was a little girl, even then it got through to me!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL VERSION, THIS TRULY MAKES ME THINK OF MY FRIEND SAL, SWEET MEMORIES THAT ARE FOREVER IN MY HEART AND MIND , AND THOUGH HE IS FAR OFF IN THE DISTANCE RIGHT NOW , DIVINE INTERVENTION IS ANOTHER MATTER.
The best way to appreciate this excellent song is to see Emilio Pericoli performing it in the 1962 movie "Rome Adventure." The way it's performed, the way the scene is set up, and the way one young lover explains the meaning to another add quite a lot - and so does the light in the eyes and face of Pericoli as he concludes.

YOu never hear this song on the radio anymore. What on earth is wrong with this world? Kids today should listen to songs like this and perhaps have a chance to feel the emotions that were part of the sixties.I can see that many do this though. 1961. I was 11 and remember how I felt .
This is the best version, because the Italian language brings out the emotion and sentiment that a heart felt song like this needs to express it greatness! I loved song since I was kid and it is still a great standard and will last test of time!
this is not the original..the original was recorded in 1961 by Luciano Tajoli..see my posting on this site...Pericoli recorded it for the film in 1962 .a year later ..Pericoli does not go anywhere near Tajoli's rendition..which is stupefying...
Thanks for the early history of this beautiful song, BoratBrother. I was unaware. I did check out Luciano Tajolis version (thanks for posting) and it was certainly impressive. Stirring and very Italian. For my taste, a bit too mezzo (as the young people say these days, hahaha) but equally beautiful. Emilios is more intimate, more right for the movie, a love story.
This song is so fantastic and so is the movie it's from - Rome Adventure with Troy Donahue and Suzanne Pleshette. We had a foreign exchange student from Italy that same year - '63. Where are you Marco Matteuci? ~Christine

Just heard a very good version by Tommy Petrillo of The Duprees; I believe this is new to their repertoire. i hope they keep it as a regular part.
