These "Soundies" were processed in reverse images to be played in "Panoram" film jukeboxes that projected these brief musical numbers from a 16mm projector at the bottom of the cabinet into a tilted mirror, just below a screen in front that reflected the correct image. Sounds complicated, but it was the only way the film could be shown in those machines. "Gotta Be This Or That" was a big hit for Benny Goodman's band in '45.
@fromthesidelines 1945! Thanks for telling the year. I also thought it was from the 1940s. Perhaps the movies can put up clips of different decades. 1 or 2 clips after the trailers before the actual movie. Youngsters will then appreciate them even without knowing the names of the performers. Movies from this decade were full of love!
Who's the singer? Who's orchestra/band is it? The pianist seems to be leading the group from the keyboard, but I couldn't quite make out the name on the bass drum to see what the group was.
Check it in a mirror; the entire clip is flopped left to right. (Either that or it's the world's only all-lefties band.) Looks to me like the drum head say "Emil Coleman" and also has initials "PR."

When you say an average singer you mean average for her time. Still considerably better than what we have now.

Ya know, you'd think that they would flip these films around when they released them on DVD.
It's a little confusing to watch everyone playing
left handed - and now for your dancing pleasure
EMIL COLEMAN AND HIS LEFT HANDERS - LOL

Didn't grow up listening to this, so I have to say, very catchy tune and everyone looks like they're having a lot of fun - pretty good for a nickel!

Yes, these films were "flipped" because of the mirror reflector in the soundie machines.
June Barton wasn't that good looking of a woman, and only an average singer. Well - what do you expect for a nickel?

Wow, you're right! I'll have to get a hand mirror & check further!

@ZoltanLazlo
yeah, I don't even think a lefty would have a piano restrung with high keys on the left.

I agree with Zoltan Lazlo, the Band Leader is Emil Coleman, the singer is June Barton.
