  • David Soul is somewhere in this film; is that him with the glasses?

  • DJ Shadow brought me here.

  • If Metallica didn't bring you here than you know real literature.

  • @halofan97 it was both the book and metallica for me

  • Metallica brought me here

  • I didn't know Donald Sutherland was in this movie. Now that's even more reason

    to watch the movie.

  • damn this movie is still incredibly relevant, it brings up valid points both about war, and the use of life support

  • Metallica fans need to watch this movie from beginning to end, and truly appreciate this film..

  • @kiloggolik yeah and the smart ones can read the book

  • @enohpoxasotla100 Smart Metallica fans? I think you're expecting too much from them >_< the typical metal-head doesn't spend their time reading books.

  • @kiloggolik hmm i guess your right, but it is still a good book

i guess you can say people who have read the book and/or seen the movie should listen to the song

  • @enohpoxasotla100 haha fair enough! It's a good book/movie, AND a good Metallica song.

  • ok its getting annoying, every single retard singing metallica's one to this movie, i love metallica, but hate retard ppl

  • might be a good idea to learn morse code.

just in case....sos kill me and all that.

  • 'Left me with life in hell'

  • I'm sure I'll get plenty of flames-but replace a WWI victim of an artillery shell with the victim of an IED in Iraq, and you make a near seamless transition into the modern day

  • Landmine Has Taken My Sight

    Taken My Speech

    Taken My Hearing

    Taken My Arm

    Taken My Legs

    Taken My soul

Left Me With Life In Hell

  • darkness imprissioning me all that i see absoulute horror i can not live i can not die

  • I can not live, i can not die!

  • how can somebody lose eyes, ears , mouth (and why he can't speak) and nose?

  • @TheIceBreaker90 because its just a movie!

  • @TheIceBreaker90 He gets hit by an artillery shell, which shouldn't be surprising if it ripped his face off, and well...his brain survived completely, so that's how he's still alive.

  • @TheIceBreaker90 ...his vocal cords where destroyed...so he can't speak...he speaks only in his mind :(

  • I PLAYED "LITTLE GUY" WHO PREDICTS EVERYONE'S DESTINY IN THE SCENE. DALTON IS A HERO OF MINE. THE MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX THAT EISENHOWER WARNED US ABOUT IN HIS FINAL PUBLIC UTTERANCE DID EVERYTHING THEY COULD TO DESTROY DALTON AND MANY OTHERS. THEY STILL ARE.

    GOD FORBID PEACE BREAKS OUT.

JUST THINK ABOUT ALL THE PENTAGON WOULD HAVE TO LAY OFF.

  • War is glamorous.

  • Johny is the the one who managed to hit 12...

  • I read the book and always wanted to see the movie. My friends a distant relative to the author.

  • hey the OH NO NOT MY LEG thing was in PANICS from rooster teeth

  • read Dalton Trumbo's book- amazing. I read it in H.S. on my own.

  • Me same as like you

  • were can i watch the whole movie????

  • One take me here!!!

  • Who is here because of the book?

  • @dcoop90 lol...what book....lol

  • @BookersBourbon1 Sigh... Its a fantastic piece of American literature.

  • @dcoop90 what the fuck is a book anyways?

  • an antiwar film to remind us

  • i am here because of metallica too hehe but its a great movie i havent watched it yet

  • poor man... steps on a landmine, can't remember anything, can't talk, can't move... i bet if he could talk he'd be screaming "kill me! kill me!" I'd hate to be him...

  • @mrbigshoworelse METALLICA ONE!!!!

  • @mrbigshoworelse Dude, i would cry all my days if i were him

  • @mrbigshoworelse if i remember right he did in a way say "kill me kill me" by moving his head in morse code

  • yes he is

  • Is Donald Sutherland supposed to be Jesus?

  • DJ shadow

  • Is that Sgt. Oddball from Kelley's Heroes?

  • is this a horror movie?

  • @ninjaswimmer0130 almost that. it is a very dramatic movie

  • @ninjaswimmer0130 In some ways, but it's a movie adaptation of a book, about one man that was put in a "living dead", without eyes, ears, a nose, mouth, arms, or legs. It's very sad, to say the least. :\

  • Landmines.. have taken my sight, taken my speech, taken my hearing.

  • @Toby5000 close

  • @art11art12 go on then, chief.. what are the real ones?

  • @Toby5000

Taken my arms, taken my legs, taken my soul, left me with life in helllll

  • did they make a book on this

  • @anonomyousabortion The movie is based on the 1938 novel of the same name.

  • @anonomyousabortion book was made first

  • I was looking for a playlist of this movie. One is a good, but i watched this movie long before i heard teh song.

  • i've been waiting to see this movie ever since metallicas one video years ago its an awesome movie especially donald sutherland as christ sad ending though

  • Now later on in the film Jesus abandons Joe. This would never happen. Also when Our Lord is Yelling in the Conductors booth it symbolizes his return at the end of time.

  • i still have yet to be able to watch this film straight through. so can someone tell me who the guy in the robe is?

  • @bassdrumguitarplayer In his dreaming he sees and talks to Jesus. The guy in the robe is Jesus.

  • METALLICA

  • who is here because of one?????? i know i am

  • @calmine111 :I think every single one of us...Metellica rules

  • @calmine111 meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @calmine111

im actually playing it on my guitar now.

  • @calmine111 I AM!

  • @ReaperValya yee yee

  • @calmine111 there would be 15 000 000 here but the rest thought that the clip was made for the song and directed at the same time :)

  • @calmine111 now the the worlde is gone ima juse one

  • @calmine111

hell yeah, and now i want to see this move so bad!!!

  • When I read or look at this film I end up gasping for breath, While sympathising for Joe.

  • Christ is there as a comfort, but he is also there as a symbol. He symbolizes the cruelty of man and the fact that every one dies, including Him. He is the conductor of the train, leader of the poor dead men who are going to die and are powerless to stop it. For them, death is coming as swift and as sure as the train they are on.

  • @DwideShrude32 On an even higher plane, Christ is being shown as powerless against the tides of men, this case war. That is symbollized by His inability to draw a 12, yet He can turn water into wine, and so forth

  • @DwideShrude32 I never understood why he was talking about the 'drawing a 12'.

  • @kymon117 worlds going to end in 2012..........

  • @shanegalang2

    Because that makes total sense.

  • @shanegalang2 oh yeah, it's all just gonna end, the second the clock strikes 12 on dec 21 2012 it will all simply end. Get fucking grip u retarded faggot.

  • @shanegalang2 why is it going to end in 2012. I have heard people say it will, but what is actually going to cause it.

  • @shanegalang2 ha. Funny, cocksmooch

  • @UserAndr5773 @UserAndr5773

Its a metaphor. The train is full of dead soldiers, however in the dream the main character is having, he and the men playing cards are not yet killed. The men know they are going to die - to the very moment and instance, but they can do noting about it.

  • so many questions.

  • thats how i picture jesus

  • Metallica made the song One off of this whole movie and/or book....

  • are those guys dead or? an whats up with that train. and why is jesus playing cards???

  • @UserAndr5773 rofl :D

  • not my legs please

  • Why do comments always somehow degenerate into completely stupid and useless dabates where both parties just want the world to know so fiercely that their opinion is superior over most others.

  • not this thread again....

  • one

  • ONE

  • america is not a person, america is a name that a group of people agreed to call an area on the surface of the planet encircled by an also agreed upon invisble line. Nations only exists in your mind. the past existed. it doesnt exist now.

  • Man, D. Sutherland plays one amazing Jesus (maybe even a little creepy, but that's part of the show)!

  • He wasn't Jesus. He was an embittered hallucination of Joe's deteroriating psyche.

  • You can say that for all those characters in the scene. I'm just going by what the movie credits say: "Donald Sutherland as Jesus Christ". They do _not_ read "Donald Sutherland as Joe's Embittered Hallucination of Jesus Christ".

All I'm saying is that Sutherland plays the role (whatever you wish to call it) superbly.

  • i just read the book 2day i can explain how i rate it in 2 words KICK ASS!

  • Wootzr1 shutup up faggot piece of shit mormam and while yr at it go jack off to retarted faggy joseph smith and i don't give a goddamm shit wat u do P.S FUCK U MORMAN

  • @metalplayer34 wtf's ur problem

  • jesus christ?

  • i'm soo happy to finally watch (atleast a bit) of this movie!! been going for like 3 years looking for it..tyvm

  • That was a frigging GOOD MOVIE.

  • I've been wanting to see this movie for 20 years now, since I've seen Metallica's video in Basic Training, in the dayroom, (forgot about that till today, when I was showing my son some good music). Amazondotcom, here I come!LOL

  • @DeanTheBalloonatic did you ever rent the DVD and watch it? Fascinating film!

  • everyone who watch this movie should hear One from Metallica, and see the music video too..

  • man i gotta see that movie!!!!!!

  • read the book too

  • This movie is fucking sad as hell. It perfectly demonstrates the horrors of war. It does EVERYTHING that it is meant to do, and it does it perfectly.

That is my ultimate nightmare... Being trapped in my own body with no arms, legs, eyes, ears, mouth, etc. I discussed this film with my dad yesterday, and I eventually told him that if I ever got anywhere NEAR that fucked up, he'd better kill me or get someone else to do it, and I literally thought I was going to cry when I was saying it, too.

  • i really want to watch this..but which version should i buy. the 1971 version or the 2008 version.

  • @Metallica4Life93 The 1971 version. Definitely.

  • @XxMetalManiacXxX ok thanks. i only found out about this film from the music video of 'One by Metallica. but im sure you know that seeing as your a metal fan :)

  • @Metallica4Life93 I actually became a huge classic film fan within the past year or so, and I watch TCM obsessively. This came on late one night, and I'm like, "That sounds/looks just like the 'One' music video." I looked it up, and yup, there it was!

  • they dont make like they used too haha

  • Original, never seen the newer version, but I've seen this one, which I can approve 110%

  • whats the difference

  • I can't speak for the 2008 version, but I recently got to see the 71 version and it hit my emotions like very few movies have. It's a real diamond in the ruff, you'll see.

  • its in WWI

  • it sucks how this happens to him at the end of the war

  • i read the book

  • Me 2!!

  • i was reading up about this movie and author and the author wrote this book based on a veteran who had lost all his senses. I guess the prince of wales had gone to visit this guy and it was in the news and so thats where he got the idea of writing this book.

  • it can still make you think about the purpose of war?

  • Wait, so that's Jesus?

  • you can buy it on itunes

  • bloody hell that's Donald Sutherland playing Jesus lol

  • It's based on a story of a Canadian soldier,it is true,sadly. It happened in WW2 not WW1.

He came to public attention after being visited by the Prince of Wales in the hospital where he was being cared for.

    Sad that nothing changes.

  • it was not based on a true story...

  • How could it have happened in WW2 if the book was published in 1938?

  • WWI

  • Yea I know but somebody said it was WW2 and I was just saying that it isn't really possible.

  • they changed the war for the movie

  • No, they didn't. The war depicted in the film was the Great War. One of the few films about the first after the second.

  • no it is WW1 but your right bout everything else.

  • yes its jesus, i read the book. does anyone know where i can find the movie?

  • I think doctors like those are inhuman to make people live in pain instead of dying in peace as they wish. I find it hard to believe they keep people alive because it's the "right thing to do". They are either sadistic monsters or money grubbing freaks. "Let's see how long I can keep this one alive... Taking all bets!"

  • @SMGrawks I agree with you whole heartedly, unfortunately, in the fictional character Joe's case, he cannot communicate with the doctors. There is no way of them recording what he wants, he cannot say "kill me", and the only thing they are legally allowed to do without him signing the dotted line that says "I consent" is to keep him alive.

  • who is that guy with the beard? Jesus? LOL!!

Point of this movie is: Dont send your sons to fight pointless wars for Democracy. Americans seem to never learn, thus Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Allahu Akbar!

  • Meh you Arabs aren't much better. You've had your own crusades and pointless wars, including ones initiated against White people. It's just human foolhardiness.

  • shut up stupid cunt... Fuck Allah

  • @ARMYDiegoGarzon basically...fuck wars hold my breath as i WISH for DEATHHHH, OH PLEASE GOD WAKE MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @wootzar1 Typical retarded response.... you claim they're threatening, and you kill them (on false accusation BTW because there was not a single mass destruction weapon in IRAQ)... the innocent women and kids are mostly on their side, never forget that.... several thousand humans lost their lives every years for decades, because of american actions across the planet.

Hate generate hate, there's absolutely no way it ends up in peace, unless EVERYONE dies.

  • hey hey hey! i didnt say i approve of it! im not an anti war fag but i dont like why we are in there and whats happening! please think before you talk

  • Which is funny, because people like you believe that America is greedy.

Really, when Georgia got invaded by Russia, who sent supplies after the attacks?

After Haiti got hit by an earthquake, who sent them food and money and medical supplies?

During WW2, who saved France from Germany? (not that there was much left.)

    Don't be so naive.

  • i think it was england?

  • Agreed.

  • Comment removed

  • Americans helped criminals overthrow the Haitian government and oust their democratically elected president. Earlier, we forced Haiti to buy subsidized American produce, which made Haitian farmers unable to make a living as farmers, which in turn led to the death of their agriculture and a national food crisis that left the citizens starving after the earthquake. After the quake, Americans spent more on military presence in Haiti then aid and were one of the last nations to respond.

  • Congratulations on making yourself seem like a total asshole, are you one of those people who are devoted towards making a mockery of the United States, no wait, let me guess your next comment "Oh, I don't need to they already do it themselves" or did you spend all night researching?

Look at every other example, no need to be so negative you twat.

  • @CrankdReport

Israel was one of the first to respond.

  • @CrankdReport this is about ww1 not the hatian gov, dude totally wrong forum.blagh blagh

  • @despair2ko You have to remember that it was America's fault that France couldn't fight back.

  • Other then the fact that the Taliban could well of been talked into handing over bin laden in exchange for not having a massive blood thirsty army turn up in thier country there was no need to send that many men. If anyone thinks Bin Laden or any ranking Al Qaeda member is still there then they have to be fucking stupid. And as for Iraq that was imperialism nothing else. Afghanistan is probably no different. You think the west doesent kill innocent people? Your very naive.

  • i hope youre trolling but if in case your not trolling

    FUCK YOU

  • sad

  • Read the book,...it really pulls you into this poor man's sense of pain and isolation, he lives in his head and what remains of his life is memories; it's absolutely brilliant. This is the bleak reality many soldiers must face.

  • omg... he lost his arms, legs, jaw, eyesight, and hearing

  • is this based on a true story?

  • no it isnt

  • actually it was based on a book, the authour wrote the book after reading a news article telling about how the prince of whales visited a canadian veteran's hospital and there was a guy there that had lost all of his sences due to brain damage and lost both his arms and legs.

  • Hell no it would be impossible for this to happen.

  • it really did happen

  • World War one yes but a man getting his legs, arms, and face blown off and losing the abiltiy to speak, hear, see, and smell I doubt that could happen and so it didn`t. It is based on a fictional anti-war book.

  • Dude its real and you should know One by metallica is based on johnny got his gun!

  • It is not real and the movie which Metallica used in their music video is based on a book. You kids really need to read this book.

  • i am going to read the book im buying it in a couple days!

  • I read the book it makes you rethink about the purpose of war.

  • no, not really, it was written by a narcissistic communist a decade after armistice, a better book is "A Doughboy with the fighting 69th" by Albert M Ettinger who ACTUALLY SERVED in World War One, that makes me think about the purpose of war.

  • it amazing

  • Metallica based their song and video in this movie, they even put scenes from the movie in their music video

  • @Linkaara I know the reason I read the book was because of Metallica. I don`t know if you`ve noticed but I`m a big Metallica fan just look at my name.

  • Although I believe it is fictional, I don't see why it can't conceivably happen, people lose many things in war and survive.
