Although he is a a very fine tenor I have often thought him miscast in some roles. This is NOT one of them. This seems perfect for him. Beautiful sound, wonderfully interpreted.
Excellent Alagna, timbro, squillo, acuti, buon gusto, fiato. Ici, dans cette repertoire, Il chantait tres facil, j'espere qu'il retourne a chanter bel canto, et l' operas pour tenor lirico, mais pas spinto.
The more and more I listen to both Alagna and Florez the more I prefer Alagna! I've always felt Florez's voice was too light. Alagna has real power!!!!!!!
Es admirable que en esta horrible produccion,y en ese decorado deplorable, roberto cante tan magistralmente este aria.Quizas querian que se despenara antes de que se suicidase.!!bravo Roberto¡¡.
You're right: the quality is poor but the performance shines through. But what a bizarre production! Was it my imagination or was Edgardo dispatched by a Mephisto-like character who is on camera for barely a moment? It bears an uncanny resemblance to a mute handing Edgardo the dagger in the recent Oranges production you posted.
Many thanks for all these wonderful postings. It's great to hear and see diferent interpretations and productions.

Je m'excuse, mais cette scène n'est pas le suicide d'Edgardo. Cette aria "Fra poco a me rivovero" précède le suicide...

Wonderful Alagna!!!
But that production is a mess, a stupid and senseless thing. All those stage directors are innecessary

Bella voce ma non è Edgardo. Ascoltare Kraus o Di Stefano!

Good but Tagliavini in the 1959 recording with Callas is better.

Tombe degli avi miei,
l'ultimo avanzo
d'una stirpe infelice
deh! raccogliete voi. Cessò dell'ira
il breve foco... Sul nemico acciaro
abbandonar mi vo'. Per me la vita
è orrendo peso!...

Unbelievable, the singing is astonishing. Roberto is always a little too heavy IMHO, but this is just great.
