Thank you Priscilla - these are my neighbors.... My grandma Jennie Smith used to net and boy the memories from those days when netting was illegal. She would go out after dark to set net. She had some close calls with the DNR.

until u live on a reservation u wouldnt know..alot of them cant afford to go to the grocery store on a weekly basis..everything helps even if includes catching more fish than u or havesting wildrice on the lakes ..its what we do to stay strong considering the job market is very slim..so please wen u say ignorant comments like that , your only making yourself afool

BSUkid69 Red Lake was fished Commercial and it suffered, Leech lake suffers from bird (Commerade) that feeds on the fry and the thousands of non native anglers tourist that take tons fish each year from that lake. So dont tell me this elder and his family have ruined Leech Lake. I wonder if u r Bsu Drop out?

Actually Im from Leech Lake and I also net, but we did a study with our DNR and US Fish and Wildlife, and found out the cormorants are not having any effect on the walleye population. 75% of their diets were perch, and the rest was other species, with walleyes only being about 1%.

Plus our tribal fisheries are always constantly stocking walleye in our lakes, so it's not like we are taking and not giving back. We have net these lakes for hundreds of years, and there is still fish left for all.

weird... dont walleye feed mostly on perch? Hmm... not affect once so every.... not even indirectly...... good joke... But I just talked to a friend while i was up there and he blames it more on the advances in fishing tech. more so then the birds but they were part of it.
