@nikonxxx -- Your typing in a comment under a fake nickname against a man who actually puts himself out there with full name is "gay shit." Ron Balicki is a world class martial artist; a man with full "black belt" level instructor ranking in VARIOUS martial arts. He has also competed in full-contact MMA matches and I can guarantee that he has ALSO trained with pistols and is probably a far better shot than you. Moron.
I honestly don't understand why I would use the shoulder sash in a real fight. But I guess it's also about learning the culture and keeping the culture alive. If we stripe everything away to only what is effective for our culture they we'd lose a lot of history.
@jjhaywood I first started to learn this from Guro Dan Inosanto. I was not a big fan about it. I started to change my mind. I felt it started making me tighter with my empty hands. Also, it is one of the few weapons I can walk on to a plane with. It's better than fingernails.
Sarung is part of traditional Pencak Silat attire, and it's there for a reason. During the Dutch rule in Indonesia, Silat & metal weapons were banned, so the fighters fashioned it as substitute, carry it around using it like belt/rope to attack n lock enemy.
The fact that it was also a very common accessory at the time make it easier to fool the Dutch. They said it was for protection against mosquitoes, heat, and night breeze. U can cover Ur whole body with it if it's large enough.
@jjhaywood The sarong tekniks in a modern world can be applied to a shoulder bag for girls..or a messenger type bag for guys. You could use the same moves with the strap of the bag over ur shoulder. Or even with a gym type duffle bag worn arcross ur chest. Or in winter places..use a scarf.
I am not going to get into this with you. One thing I have learned over the years is that there is much more to being a martial arts master than simply being a tough guy, a thug, or winning in the ring. Humility, decency, honor, respect, these are the values I teach my students,
@Ronbalicki@stimp01 the values taught to me by my teachers, and the values you clearly lack. I don't always agree with other martial artists, nor do I always like the material they create. But I'm always respectful and treat them as I wish to be treated. My record speaks for itself so I have no need to suffer fools. So, it's time to stop this and grow up.
Why do people continually insist on writing things here, that they would not dare say to someones face? It is a serious flaw in the nature of people these days, not so different then road rage. Why not learn some manners, and if you have something you feel you want to say, then do so with dignity. Ron, I think its a pretty decent video actually. And I think I can say so being that I have been training Martial Arts for 17 odd years! Keep up the good work:)
Master Balicki, Thank you for spreading effective means of self-defense. It is a blessing to many. I purchased this DVD and I think it is the most complete I've seen. I'm a Kali Silat practitioner for 7 years now specializing in the Karambit. I have to say you capture the spirit of the art. In the videos you are primarily using a sortof...gold/rust colored sarong. It is beautiful. I was wondering where you purchased it or where I can find one similar online. is it one of cold steel's? thank you
@nikonxxx Your looking at a former police officer, I am sure he knows all to well the effectiveness of a glock 17. Grow up and appreciate the artistic value as well as the combative value of flexible weapons. That sarong he is using is a representation of ANY flexible weapon, for instance a nice sturdy leather belt around your waist could be employed as a last ditch defense against a knife, tryi growing up and not being such a pathetic jackass and do a little research into it.
excellent stuff-anybody who doubts the practical elements of the above is an idiot-and to those idiots i shall say this- this art-like all great arts follow the principles of physics and there manipulation using leverage-with OR without the sarong (which could just as easily be replaced by a coat or a tie!) yet again another great vid posted by the highly skilled Mr Balicki.
its like an awesome nunchuku! This would be so effective on the street, you could use shirts and stuff. especially scarfs (seeing as it is winter in my city)
This is some cool silat I see so many different training styles some of which I personally would not like to train in but this is the kind of effective yet flowing style. Is this just regular Penkat Silat
Who wears that shit in AMERICA? Anyone walking around lookin like that needs to learn fashion sense before attempting to become a Silat master in AMERICA. Maybe these moves can be used in the gay bar where this sort of apparel is common.
Funny thing about people like you is that you are willing to invade someones cyberspace but not their personal space. You and I both know what the outcome would be. This is my recommendation, get out of your Superman PJ's, eat your lucky charms and stop writing letters before your mom finds out.
You're a SISSY, you know it and I know it. My instructor always told me that they only try to tackle the guy who is carrying the ball. So, what you are telling me is that I am doing something right.
@Ronbalicki Thank yOu Ron for all the great stuff you offer.. This guy is just pathetic.. Instead of appreciating the art and beauty of sarong technique, he chooses to bash and insult.
@Ronbalicki good one bro just keep on doing what you are doing i love the vid... by the way i train in jkd/kali here in new york with barry cuda yedwabnick .... and the silat motions are no joke........
Why would you use the silat nomenclature in your screenname, but ridicule a respected element of silat training?
Surely you recognize the value of sarong techniques as they translate effectively into use of neckscarves, ropes, towels, chains, belts or any other flexible item one can manipulate in such fashion.
Or...
Maybe improvising and adapting potentially lethal techniques is just too..."gay"...for you.
Here. Here. He doesnt have an intelligent repsonse so he decides to insert some imaturish gay bashing crap. Silatmestizzo77, you'rea moron. And again Yes, no one in American wears a sarong, but the techniques can be applied to ropes, belts, chains, wires, and yes even garments. there arew omen who wear scarves. Go back to highschool and get your GED
"Gay Bar". Are you !@@# kidding me. your response to this martial art is a juvenile gay bashing remark? You have got to be kidding me. The Sarong can be subsituted for a belt a towel, a tie etc. Go back to Highschool, Moron and get your GED.
Nobody wears a gi either, but there are still great applications for the street. From this video alone, one can see how sarong techniques could easily be adapted for use with towels, scarves etc.
@silatmestizo77 why would you need to dress like that? If you were attacked by someone you couldn't choke them with a shoulder strap. If someone comes at you with a knife you couldn't use a jacket, towel, shirt, or any other other material to defend yourself?
@KhorneliusPraxx You couldn't? Really? Why not? I ask because I have used a jacket to defend myself against a razor.. must have been a spoof I guess..
@KhorneliusPraxx You'd be surprized how well a towel or shirt works against knives and guns, lol, although I practice in several styles of gong fu, my mate once showed me how to use a sarong, couple weeks later, i was walking around at a nearby beach with my towel in hand, (part 1/2)
@KhorneliusPraxx a fella pops up and cocks a gun and asks for my motorbike keys, as gently as possibly i wound up my towel, stepped left, whipped his hand, threw the towel over his neck and told him off, whilst I held him in a towel-choke hold ofcourse :P(part 2/2)
i think, indonesian pencak silat is the most deadly martial arts in the world specially the real technuiqe.they r not only use weapon, but they r use spirit its call djin.sometimes bullet can not hurt them n they eat glass or oil.thats for real n thats amazing..!!
At first I was thinking about how sarong training is good for training purposes but not for combat, because when would you wear a sarong?
Then I wised up and punched myself in the face for being ignorant, even for a second. A jacket can just as easily substitute for the traditional sarong just as an umbrella or pen can be used as a yantok or blade. I think I'll punch myself again, just to be safe.
Someone who wanted to make money right now would be promoting military combatives. JKD is 5 years out of its fad. Even BJJ seems to be slowing down a little bit-- that's just in the public perception of course, and they know nothing...
