  • I WISH I COULD HAVE ONE

  • omg want this car, and only 12000, common get it legalized in quebec!!

  • Okeee am I the only one who has noticed a significant hike in their Hydro bill and I don't even own one of these cars. I wonder how many KWH it would take to fully power one of these? Either way.....gas or electricity we lose. Just my opinion....

  • I am so gonna buy one of these when they go 200mph and can last more then 8 hours on a charge

  • $12,000 ....new resale of 2007 value ....1000 bucks ..... junk deathtrap

  • Were the 11 dislikes from oil company executives or from auto makers?

  • Canada so stupid when It comes too invention

  • I agree with you Alain.

  • Why buy this car ? We don't have an oil problem, we don't have an emission problem, the environment is doing fine; isn't this what our conservative government is saying ?

  • @Alain52M no oil problem? it's increasingly difficult to create oil from teh tar sands. They also have a shit load of money to keep all the areas they polluted hush hush. All of which is sent to USA to be refined that Canada buys back. You don't see that as a problem? What about the car itself? A machine like this takes much less oil to make in addition to the fact it has less maintnance. Having this car on the road is a problem, just to those that are making billions already.

  • @finnsia My comment was meant to be ironic because of the Conservative governement's attitude. I completely agree with you

  • @Alain52M Though checking how it will do in a crash test, it doesn't seem that it's safe. Either way it's cars like this that people need because to be realistic- the general public doesn't go far enough to need this but that's just my opinion. However I can make an educated guess that such cars like this will become crap because oil companies have enough power to make sure that cars like this turn our poorly. Just look at the documentry Who killed the Electric Car?

  • To recharge these electric cars, coal is used, so they are NOT considered "green" cars.

  • @Bobemakk

Well here in Quebec, electricity is 99% from Hydro power

  • @Bobemakk we have hydro in BC

  • @Bobemakk we have like 4-5 other electronic sources.

  • I love that episode. you should film more report that are green. :)

  • Nice.. now where does the electricity to charge the car come from?

Oh yeah... that magical plug on the wall.

Oh, wait.. it's from the coal fired plant.. or the nuke plant..

And this idiot says the way to get Conservatives to buy it is to have a coal fired radio?

At least Conservatives know that unless electricity can be generated and transported out of thin air.. the electric car is a load of shit.

  • @mgourley1234 yeah and while you support these gasoline powered cars, you are supporting these arabs who are holding the world hostage with their oil while they do nothing but spend our money on expensive cars and who knows what else they are funding nowadays. we need this new technology. i am excited when that day will come when the streets are filled with cars not running on gasoline.

  • @rogerarao give me a break , gas powered cars are cool, fuck the arabs, we can drill our own oil if the gay democrats let us, hemi's aren't battery powered

  • @rogerarao you do know that 75% of the oil that comes to the USA is from Canada right? the Middle east is the 3rd largest exporter of oil(after Russia)to the USA

  • Hallucinant j'en eux une!!!

  • Electric cars aren't popular for the following reasons:

Cold weather is not good for batteries.

The Canadian and most governments get kickbacks and threats from the oil cartels.

I wish governments were less corrupt. Especially the current Canadian one.

  • @CavalierHandler come on now...give the Conservatives a chance to waste as much money as the Liberals did before you start trashing them. If you are really a person who doesn't like money being wasted on a pathetic losing cause, petition the government to have the CBC stop receiving over 1 billion dollars a year to mismanage.

  • @cdn6uldv8 You're a dangerous asshole the worse kind.... UNEDUCATED!!!!!!!

  • @mrfoltz and you're an opinionated f*ck who doesn't know how to use proper punctuation yet makes a comment on education =P

  • @mrfoltz kinda easy to spot one of your own kind, eh...blow me

  • the company is being dishonest when they claim that you eliminate your carbon footprint. you still have to get the electricity from... COAL. maybe when the electricity is generated by nuclear/solar/wind sources they can honestly make that claim

  • @AussiePolitics umm sry bud here in quebec electricity is power by dams and turbines

  • @stefrockets its not being used in quebec though is it? no-one is driving it or buying it. its extremely misleading when companies act like electricity is somehow magically green. all they're doing is outsourcing the pollution

  • @AussiePolitics true

  • @stefrockets that said while that does irritate me what the company is doing is pretty damn amazing and I hope it does get allowed in canada.

  • only problem with this kind of car is highway travel, you would need bigger batteries, not sure businesses would like you plugging into the side of there building

  • Y sont laides ces autos là . J'aime pas le design

  • They plug into any outlet you plug a cell phone in!

  • harper get off your ass

  • What's with the canned laughter?! It discredits the story like this is some kind of lame sitcom.

  • @KaptKan1 I think it's because he's showing it to a live audience; it's a segment on his live show. It's not canned laughter. I could be wrong though.

  • @shizfergus27 You're right, I'm sure: I don't have a telly so I forget those things. I don't miss the tube since the advent of Youtube, either! I watch the shows without the adverts.

You have to love the 'Net!

  • @KaptKan1 cuz its rick mercer

  • I don't know why an email contact sent me this link. He's a bit hooked on virals apparently.

  • Comment removed

  • if these become legal and go everywhere they should make like super charge stations that give a fast charge on the go, not sure how else one could go from city to city unless they plug into a building but that could take a while

  • For every ten hours of charging (at 15 amp max from normal wall plug), you can drive at about 30 to 40 mph for one hour. Woo woo

    Electricity cost about $two bucks.

  • @HiDave606 thats not good though, how do you go from city to city

  • For every ten hours of charging (at 15 amp max from normal wall plug), you can drive at about 30 to 40 mph for one hour. Woo woo

  • maniegiroux-----hope you don't eat with that mouth! Someone on here said it, besides having a limited vocabulary it certainley shows you have no class or morals. You sound disgusting!

  • He's against coal (coal fired stereo comment) how do they get their electricity? Ours is 45% from coal. My electric rates are sky high and they want me to plug in my car, my husband's care and my children? All for a scam. Not saying it's not a good idea, but again my electric rates are high and according to Obama in his own words (January 08) "his Cap-n-Trade program Electric rates will necessarily skyrocket." To sell electric cars you need to make electric cheaper.

  • @MsConsiderthis well if we could lick cold fusion we would all be set now wouldn't we

  • It is one of the many efforts that point in the right direction, even though, the name is not really correct. It is not "Zero Emissions", due to the emissions from power generation and lithium mining, but it still reduces the overall emission by 30-40%. It is truly sad, that our Government is currently the most ignorant preventer of environmental issues in the western world, instead of doing what the others do: CREATE JOBS WITH WHAT'S RIGHT !!

  • @causewaybard i highly doubt that the emissions made from the energy that is made to power it counts as the cars fault

  • @slipspacer88 It's not a question of "fault", but we tend to narrow our view as far as environmental projects are concerned. To see the true picture we always HAVE to look at the overall carbon footprint of an idea, if general reduction is the goal.

  • it is an OPTION people. Something of this power and size can only handle so much but man o man it's a wonderful option for a LOT of urban people. WTH is with the lack of gov't approval?

  • If only these tree huggers new what Lithium mining does to the environment...

  • Wow.. what a filthy mouth. My dad always said that kind of language shows a limited vocabulary. You can express yourself with out such dirty words.

  • wonder how long it will last at minus 45 c ..in winter...

  • I guess 7 people don't want to save the earth.

  • The only thing is we don't see it go after they load it with the beer... Hehe.

  • I got this in an email, didn't think it was real. Looks like something made in Japan, because it's small compact. Wonder if the ideas were stolen from the Japanese lol. JK.

  • twat a bunch of cow dung this or any vehicle that goes like a snail and gets you stranded in the middle of a trip. take all your green ideas and eat them im never going green and im going to burn as much hydrocarbons as i can in my life and tear this planet apart looking for oil until the damn place is dead and gone. no bleeding heart here for anything, the sooner the better i say,

  • All this is is an electric car. Is that something new and remarkable? No, as a matter of fact they've been around for over 100 years. They've never taken over from gas for some very simple reasons that are not mentioned in this video. Their range is very limited, perhaps 70 miles before recharge is required. Recharge takes hours whereas a gas car takes a few minutes. Good for local use only. In Canada with such great distances, not so great for most people.

  • @Reidsmith1000 So what you're saying is that we shouldn't be allowed to use this as a stepping stone for more efficient and effective electrical capacity and faster recharging innovations for the future? That sounds like a step in the right direction. Last time I checked, it wasn't 70 miles (or even 70 kilometers) to the grocery store. At least the ones I tend to shop at. I dunno about you, but not many of us need take massively long excursions to get to where we need to go on a regular basis.

  • @Reidsmith1000 To be fair, yes you did mention good for local use. But, if people need to go further than that, they can simply keep using their normal cars, too. Or take a highway bus or find other alternatives besides their personal gas-guzzling Hummers and SUVs. My point is that it's silly for the government to tell EVERYONE that they can't use one simply because they don't feel we deserve to make that choice for ourselves for whatever reasons. That's all.

  • @alecfras I was just pointing out that the video doesn't reveal these limitations. Go for it if you think it's a good idea. In the free market it's just a fact that it hasn't been worth manufacturing the electric car up till now because they aren't versatile enough that many will buy them. The government certainly has no place preventing you from buying one. I believe some models are becoming available from the major manufacturers.

  • Hey @janiegiroux dick sucker!!!!! Before you open your fat mouth you should read a little and get your facts straight. I think the only time you should open your mouth is to insert a huge cock!!!! There are so many positive aspects about electric cars and NO NUCLEAR is not clean or safe you dumb fuck!!!! Never heard of solar, tidal, geo thermal.... Ahhhh shit why am I wasting my time you're just too dumb to comprehend anything other than CNN. Go graze with the other sheeple.....

  • @infinity0880 another pig with no vocabulary besides filth!

  • How do you get heat when it is 40 below like in Thunder Bay in the winter?

  • I'm curious to know how much power this car consumes for city driving. Because if someone were to mount some efficient solar panels on it, it could save even more energy or even let the car recharge itself.

  • 7 people are Harper, the transpo minister, the environment minister, etc etc...

  • meh boring ugly and uninspiring as a car lover this is awful give me the scream of a v8 and the power that goes with it.

  • @b4ptist Scream gets boring when you realise how much extra it costs to run, plus environment. Besides, learn to appreciate the sound of birds occasionally, prick.

  • @Fwuzeem uhhh no it doesn't, and i can appreciate wildlife fine. v8's dont get boring.also this car is massively unsafe check out the crash test for them.

  • @b4ptist I suppose it's down to personal taste. But like the dude said, this thing is a lot cheaper to run because of it's electric motor as opposed to the inefficient (in comparison) internal combustion engine. You definitely have a point when it comes to safety I'll give you that, what with its lack of noise, but I've just seen the crash test video and it's not too bad. Just as long as the airbag is there next time then all should be fine (coming from a guy who's been in quite a few crashes).

  • It's sad that a company with a clearly french VP isn't legal in Quebec.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Conservative haters, this is a provincial issue. Federal passed it. It's up to the provinces. Did you actually see the whole video?

  • @nequillim Bwhahahahaha! You Sir/ Madam are a Master Troll!

  • It's great, I want one!!

Jobs in Canada, Fuel saving, Possible to feed car from a green source for free using Solar at home. win, win for everyone.

  • @nequillim trollface.jpg

  • would not want to crash in that thing, holy shit you would get flattened

  • Top speed of 40 km/h isn't very practical really. They no longer produce these cars as of 2009.

  • @Happyburn Check wikipedia for ZENN

  • LOL fucking export

    god i love quebec

  • There's a TEDxYYC video on YouTube called where Kirk Sorensen discusses Thorium, as used LFTR (Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor). I'd really encourage anyone keen on electric car technology to bone up on LFTR, a particularly exciting way to provide cheap base-load electricity for our grid.

And as a side-effect, the rare earth minerals needed for modern batteries are usually found mixed with Thorium in the earth... when you're digging up battery minerals, you are also digging up potential fuel.

  • @gordonmcdowell the unfortunate thing is however that most of the benefits of thorium are theoretical, i hope it works but at the moment its kind of up in the air

  • @gordonmcdowell Lately they found "rare earth minerals" in abundance in North America, and Japan..... I guess China id pissed off about that???

  • @zulumikecharlie actually nuclear does cause a small amount of thermo pollution, because plants need to be built close to water sources for cooling purposes the water is heated then released back into the environment, this changes the eco system by artificially increasing the average temperature of the area, that aside it's still the 1000x cleaner then coal.

  • @zulumikecharlie That's complete fucking bullshit. "Less than 10% of the damage to the environment"? Where'd you get that statistic? I'm going to take a wild guess that it was pulled from your own asshole.

  • pig!

  • @zulumikecharlie I don't know how accurate the number you quoted is but I agree with you on that point wholeheartedly. One important thing you should consider is what kind of production costs go into making this car vs a standard car. The video didn't really mention anything about the battery technology being used, but some have such high production costs that, unless the car's functional lifetime is sufficient, the benefits you mentioned are offset just by the production of the batteries.

  • @zulumikecharlie I'm a conservative (or at least centre-right), I didn't vote for Harper this election, but I did the previous one.

Anyhow I agree with you 100%. Nuclear is the best form of power we have, and thorium salt reactors are the way of the future. Getting rid of nuclear power would be a step backwards towards the dark ages. Thorium reactors actually consume nuclear waste, and it's waste after 100 years is as radioactive as natural uranium. It's also not possible for them to meltdown.

  • @SuperColossal33 hadnt heard of thorium reactors.. thats a step in the right direction! :)

  • @zulumikecharlie Yeah, go eat a dicks you moring!

  • @zulumikecharlie What's wrong with nuclear? How about that once the reaction is started you can't EVER stop it?.. And the buildings will eventually get so old that they will decay. Then a meltdown will happen. We can never get rid of the waste either. EVER.. NEVER! ... Not in a million years!!!... Not to mention tons of scientists were and still are completely against nuclear power plants... Thorium reactors are a step in the right direction, however they also have many issues to be worked out.

  • @zulumikecharlie What's wrong with nuclear? One word. Fukushima.

  • @plawler A nuclear plant with improper generator setup built on the coast undergoes a 9.0 earthquake and tsunami and STILL resists a total meltdown? Sounds like a success to me.

  • @StevieQ8 That's quite funny. Would you care to share your insights with the people living around Fukushima Daiichi? How about Chernobyl? Care to have some of this wonderful Fukushima lettuce? Clearly you have no clue. Are you one of those who says mercury poisoning only affects pregnant women and children, so it doesn't harm a significant amount of the population?

  • @zulumikecharlie your grammar is as appalling as is your idea of what is good and what is bad....wake up and smell something really...really ???? get an education ...

  • @zulumikecharlie

There's a free room for you in Fukushima, you ignorant and uneducated moron. Maybe just a hole will do for you. Going by your language, that's where you came from anyway, hey?

  • @zulumikecharlie

There's a free room for you in Fukushima, you ignorant and uneducated moron. Maybe just a hole will do for you. Going by your language, that's where you came from anyway, hey?

  • @zulumikecharlie It's really nice that you can afford to pay $1.30 a litre for gas you stupid fuck. You'd prefer to let some politico take his whole family on a first class "Business" trip while most of the country is lucky to be able to pay the bills, a lot which is oil-based.

  • @zulumikecharlie dude nuclear is highly dangerous look at japan when they nearly had a meltdown, they could have lost a large portion of there country in a explosion and more of it from nuclear radiation

  • @zulumikecharlie would you want a nuclear reactor inn your city, wouldn't you fear a meltdown and sudden death

  • @janiegiroux When oil runs out there is a good chance that you'll be driving an electric car.

  • @janiegiroux you are what is wrong with the world.

  • @janiegiroux I hear oil drilling has zero negative affects on the environment. Thank god for that.

  • Watch "Who Killed The Electric Car". Great movie and will open your eyes to what's been going on. Coming out soon is "The Revenge of the Electric Car". Nissan is coming out with an electric car in Canada in 2013. As far as electricity consumption goes - very little and very little pollution etc. compared to using oil, even when the electricity is coming from some coal plants. Our Canadian government is too tied to the oil companies and their profits.

  • This car is a COW (coffin on wheels)

  • @Stritch79

nah, they just use the TVR safety system

when you buy one they tell each customer not to have crashes

  • This is our government, screwing us over so to benefit from the taxes we, taxpayers, pay exorbitant amounts of when buying gas. Just another reason why I'm ashamed of being Canadian!

  • how severe is the effect on your electricity bill?? anyone here have one?

  • Comment removed

  • Will my golf clubs and push cart fit? (I suppose with no passengers.)

  • A great idea with many benefits to the environment and noise pollution. But ...

How will it fare in Canadian winters at below freezing temperatures?

What will be the electricity bill for comparable usage of the car?

  • @davidsyw1 I'm willing to bet the cost of electricity will still be lower than the cost of gas in todays economy.

  • @KirstieAnne I would do a detailed analysis on the electricity consumption of the ZENN in comparison to the province's electricity prices and forecast where gas and electricity prices are headed. Gas prices are volatile. Electricity prices are undergoing a transformation with deregulation in some provinces along with smart-meter pricing. I'm not willing to bet until I've done some investigation and analysis. :-)

  • OTOH, if 90% of the population went with electric cars, while I remain in the 10% still on gas, perhaps the decreased demand on gas and the increased demand on electricity will tip the scale. Just a thought. I acknowledge the need to stop reliance on non-renewable oil. And I agree with the dire concern on carbon emissions.

  • This is really cooool. Wonder what oil companies and oil businessmen and politicians are going to do or react to such a clean car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We've come a long way since the Bricklin!

  • Rick ... this is just brilliantly presented. Thank you cubed !!!

  • Rick, you're the best!!

  • Only good in city, max speed 60k/h.

  • Performance, Autonomy, How long to charge it, Crash test results?

  • Last Report I read Showed the Emission from Producing the Batteries was Equal to Operating 100 'Fuel' Burning Cars.

Also you Have to 'Carbon' Something to Generate the Electricity to Charge it up.

  • That's nice and all... but how much does it cost in electricity to charge it every night? I'm not a believer in "carbon footprints" but, what is the actual "footprint" when you look at the emissions from the hydro plant that generates the electricity to charge the car? And if we are struggling to come up with electricity to meet current demands, what will happen when 200,000 people come home after work and plug in their car to charge? I still remember the blackout in 2003!!

  • Show me a Canadian dealer and I am there - I would buy one of these in a flash. Typical Canadian gov. red tape etc with getting it 'legal'. Just like I had to deal with building my straw bale house Eco Straw House .com

  • I quit riding my almost zero emissions bicycle on the street because it provides no protection against the idiot drivers in my city. Thus any light-weight vehicle will have to be survivable in similar circumstances, or it's no good to me. Only fools willingly play deadly games without protection.

  • I love it. Really cool. Where are the US dealerships ?

  • One question. Can it burn em? (tires)

  • @dgdaner electric motors are best choice for burn downs , there is no problem on this side !

  • @OTULP62 what? sorry , i couldn't hear you over all of our healthcare benefits.

  • But, how far at max speed will it go, what is it's cruising speed, how long is the charge time? It makes a big difference! Otherwise, as long as it is not made mandatory to drive such a car, I have no problem with people deciding on their own if they wish to purchase one as they currently do, checking out the type, model, color, etc. that they themselves want to purchase without being told... let it be our decision!

  • But, how far at max speed will it go, what is it's cruising speed, how long is the charge time? It makes a big difference!

  • What they don't tell you is how much pollution is created to provide the electricity to charge it.

  • electricity doesn't come from magic, LOL. instead of finding renewable energy sources, we should just switch from powering our cars with oil to coal and nuclear?

  • 1 week's worth of groceries = 20 cases of beer? xD

  • OTULP62 has a point. Cold weather reduces battery efficiency considerably and to check that just Google it. I'm sure the car has been crash-tested but physics are physics. If you hit a Zenn or something smaller (a shopping cart, maybe), you might walk away, but against normal-sized cars it's adios, muchacho. For 12K you can buy a fairly late model Honda which will run forever and actually have room + all the creature comforts the Zenn lacks. For an around-town grocery/beer getter, it might do.

  • wow nice car nice to be canadian isn't it best music ever and cool cars :) go canadians! :)

  • Stupid Canadians...nice car till you need to turn on the heater oh ya there is none and if you want to go faster than 40 kph your screwed and if you want to listen to the radio that will cut you 40 click range to 30....$12000 of junk!!!

  • @OTULP62 Stupid who? I think you said Canadians. BW

  • @OTULP62 wow you are stupid it has everything a norm car has and is super cheap to run lol one of the best cars ever

  • @OTULP62

you're a douche and probably have no friends in real life

  • Same in America. All the oil companies and the congressmen they own will never let this happen.

  • gimme

  • Yeah no worries....the OIl-o-garchy is a DINOSAUR...and will soon be a fossil...not like the lie of fossil fuels....they are renewable actually...see George Green...but word is, manufacturing is going to Hydrogen in 2013. That will almost make electric cars obsolete. Ottawa is old school, and protects themselves, as always and their corporate terrorist buddies. And the public has noooooo clue....just like the corporatista wants them....like mushrooms, fed excriment and kept in the dark.

  • Love the idea of an electric car ONLY if the electricity used is also produced by a "clean" means. Otherwise, it's a boondoggle kicking the pollution down the street. Also..why do electric cars have to be uglier than a fire hydrant? Damn, I wouldn't buy one of these just on principle, it's so ugly.

  • i want one of these

  • So, where is the electricity generated and most importantly , HOW? Probably some coal-fired electric generating plant belching out carbon monixides aand sulfuric acid emissions, maybe located in someone ELSE'S neighborhood?

There is NO SUCH THING AS A FREE RIDE FOLKS... Pardon the pun, but well intended.

  • Apparently the Canadian bureaucracy put this guy out of business. And now, years later, the big companies are starting to produce fully electric cars.

Just goes to show how the large corporations own everything.

    Fascism rules the world folks

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

  • Yes, electric cars are better than petrol/gas....Hydrogen cars are certainly the future...however if electric car manufacturers introduced dynamo's/alternators to the electric car to give some form of additional recharge as you drive, this would reduction of electrical recharging required.

  • Yes, power plants supply the electricity, but the amount of energy needed to recharge batteries for EVs is less polluting than a gasoline powered car. No, it's not perfect, but we can move toward sources other than coal for electricity. But we need to move away from gas powered autos.

  • Great Video :):)

  • I WANT THIS !!

  • No emissions? The 'conservative coal' is running the powerplants used to charge this car. I look up the river here between the U.S. and Ontario, and see 2 coal powerplants, 1 each side. On a clear day both are puffing out columns of steam. As the steam dissipates, only a trace of smoke comes from the U.S. side. The Canadian side has a trail of nasty brown/yellow smoke for miles. Who has stricter air quality laws? Nevermind what the Canadian refineries dump in the water, that's another subject.

  • @headcase01

It's true. We replace one energy source for another. If it's not coal, it's more spent uranium that will help fuel our electric cars. Who knows what's better. Paper in washrooms, or hand dryers? Need energy to produce the paper, need energy to run the blow dryer. Maybe hydrogen cars are a better technology to develop. Waste product? Water.

  • I guess the ZENN motor company must have been threated by big oil, which may be the reason why ZENN is no longer building cars....sad, very sad.

  • @novaheart7

Yeah, except that now the major players are starting to introduce what? Pure electric cars. Nissan Leaf, anyone. Thanks, Canadian government. We could have had a beat on this 4 years ago, and been global by now. We now can rely on Nissan, Honda, etc. Missed opportunity.

  • Correction from my previous comment:

    Update for Zenn cars

Thank you for your interest in ZENN Motor Company. We are no longer producing the ZENN vehicle and are instead focusing on developing drive trains for electric vehicles. Again, thank you for your interest. Yours truly,

    Sherry B. Good

    Warranty & Service Administrator

    Zenn

PS: The company still exist and still is on the TSX

  • @Plasdev So sorry that you are no longer producing the ZENN vehicle. With the price of gas rising this would be a great option to purchase. Gerry in US
