Probably been told this already, and like you mentioned in the vid, its probably been fixed (since its been over a year since this was uploaded ahaha), but your right elbow seems kinda far out. Or it could be the style that you or your instructors wanted you to play with.
Other then that, I really enjoyed this. Pretty much all of what you played was even. As my instructor would say, it felt good to listen to! Keep up the awesome work! Hope you make into a group soon!
Wow! I'm amazed by how you can possibly store those rhythms in your head! (I'm a sax player - what do I know???) I hope you're playing with some group somewhere cuz I think you're awesome!
@jaykay1053 Thank you. It takes time to remember all of the rhythms/exercises but the more you do it the easier it gets. I hope to be playing somewhere soon! Hopefully MCM and/or PR!
Were you in Petal HS? Because i was watching that finals video and thought that guy looked like you, and freaked out. Now I need to know. Great drumming by the way.
You've got a good base here, watch yr hand changes! Learn to love your dr beat. Go march a div 3 or 2 for a summer, even if you're not in a top 12 corps you still learn boatloads,. It'll make you a solid line player and is a ridiculous amount of fun.
Crossmen* sorry for typo.... and one thing I've notice, keep your left elbow out just a little bit more... the Crossmen got on to me about that A LOT... just trying to help a fellow snare brother out... ;D lolz
Mistakes or not, you're a fantastic percussionist for your age! You will no doubt march with Crown or whomever you choose next summer! Keep up the good work!
Where were you 10 years ago?? I hear ringing when I go to bed now lol. Too many years standing over drums! When you're teaching it seems worse in front of the drums. I always wear plugs now.
my guess as to why they wanted you to get more experience has a lot to do with your technique, and your attention to detail. The angle of attack is different from left to right, which is very harmful to your overall sound quality. The tap height is also different from left to right. From what I saw in the video, the difference between left and right is almost an inch... My suggestion - rise the drum a bit, leave the left hand where it is and raise the right hand a bit also.
@idrum4jrny I was offered a spot at Scouts this season, but I had to respectfully decline due to the fact that I wanted to focus on finishing school and indoor season.
@CincoSnare76 Thanks man. I've only gotten better since this video and the audition. But yeah, it sucks. Hoping to try out somewhere next year and make it, if not then I'll find a lower corps.
u adjust ur grip A LOT!!!! mostly in ur left hand and ur left hand taps arent constant in quality or rhythm but u do have really good over all sound quality!!!
@donnymarvin I've been told to go to Cadets by my friend Jordan. His audition video should be on the side bar. This is his first year to audition and he made it. I'm thinking about Phantom next year.
@Petalsnare2007 lol me too! hahaha im going for spirit or teal sound next year but i want to go to SCV eventually or crown their tied for favorite corp
@petalsnare I do agree with optsyn, but you seem to have your priorities worked out well, so it's really up to you. But I tried out for bluecoats, sent them there audition material, and it was funny. They sent it back with a note that says "your close, but wait until you turn 16." kind of had it coming considering I'm a freshman. In highschool. Yeah but maybe I'll do spartans instead. There right close to me in new Hampshire. Well see.
@travioli48 I just went to the stage in our auditorium and pulled out the curtains and stood in front of them, worked out nicely. So I would suggest just setting up a black sheet/towel/curtain or whatever. Maybe do a couple of test shots just to see how it's going to look.
@Petalsnare2007 you really should go out and try to get a spot somewhere. There are definitely lines who would still love to have a guy with your hands at this point... get out there and make yourself available. Experience matters.
@optsyn I just kind of wanted to focus on finishing out my senior year and indoor percussion, but I've been giving it some thought. I just don't know where to start.
@jeffcornwallis Yes I did! I actually was showing a friend how to sing it and the guy at the booth overheard me and the next thing I heard was, "What size would you like?"
@Idn42 Thanks man. It was a great experience, and I hope so too. I'll let you know if anything else happens. Might find a spot somewhere else this year.
I think it's really funny how you have to try to hold back the smile after a good rep. But other then that, I'm interested to see if you make it or not. But you've already done half the battle. -Bern
@Idn42 Lol you made me smile just reading this comment. Didn't expect anyone to catch that. I'm really interested to! Hopefully I can find out Sunday. I'll post on the video if I make it or not. So be sure to check back.
@bigdude627 Haha yeah I noticed this after I made the video. I tend to do it everytime I go to play high with the left hand. I'm working on it! Trust me!
Great effort. Please relax your right shoulder a bit. The arm should hang more freely with no pronounced jutting elbow. Relax and breathe and you will be good to go.
check out the interp on your 16th note diddles... its almost as if your diddle starts just before the 16th note partial that it is supposed to be placed on and the second note of the double is just after the partial as opposed to on the partial and between the next as it is mathematically
good luck this weekend. i wish is coul go by fort mill high and watch but i work weekend. i will definitely be at the december camp at nation's ford hs. like your playing. hope it works out for you.
