Comme cela fait plaisir de réentendre le groupe de notre vie étudiante au début des années 80. Toujours aussi frais, ils n'ont pas pris une ride. Bonheur à vous.
23,000 people have already checked this out - fantastic! what a track, brings a tear to the eye to think it was so long ago. marvellous, cheers for uploading.
I have over 2,000 bootlegs I made on professional equipment from 1981 to date but lack the time to transfer them :-( but realise I have some very rare stuff that should be preserved for the greater good !
I have a VHS video of them performing this track live on the BBC - Keith Chegwin introuduces them miming live on stage...the video link breaks and it cust to Rolf Harris before cutting back to Eyeless in Gaza! Classic stuff! Have great perfect Edinburgh recodring of them in 1985 too! What a band!
Bogart is a reference to Hollywood actor Humphrey Bogart, who seemed to always have a cigarette hanging from his lips....it was popularized by the drug culture in the 60's.
When in a group of hippies that was passing a marijuana cigarette around, one of the group would hog the cigarette for an unacceptably long time someone would say "don't bogart that joint" Joint was a name for the home rolled cigarette that had an enlarged center section that resembled a joint in the arm or leg.
Just got myself Gaza's "Saw You In Reminding Pictures" DVD for Xmas. While watching the Le Havre set filmed by the Sordide Sentimental guys, it occured to me this is religous music. Like Martyn and Peter at the tabernacle belting out tasty psalms for the alienated and angst-ridden parishioners.
brilliant. if you like this stuff, check out the music of marine girls, tracey thorn's first LP solo, everything but the girl, orange juice, and prefab sprout. i can't get enough of this era in UK pop.
I dislike that they are 4 dislikes here. Simply one of best songs ever.
