@jscalise1 Well don't forget this is 1980 meaning that he's speaking of Journey Pre - Johnathan Caine. Journey had a very nice style with Greg Rolie. They were a pop band for sure but they possessed a credible edge. Caine turned them into , for lack of a better word, the gay superstars you know and love today
I saw this show ...it was the first rock concert I ever went to. I became a huge Black Sabbath fan that day thanks to Ronnie James Dio. They were amazing. Journey and Cheap Trick followed and both handed in great performances. Before Sabbath , The Babys and Molly Hatchet played great sets. A local Los Angeles CA band called Russia started the day off.
Before Black Sabbath came on, church bells tolled for about ten minutes. They opened thier set with War Pigs.
RIP Ronnie we love you & we will all miss you.. Thanks for the music & memories.. your physical body is gone but your spirit & music will live on forever. \m/
Cool. Back then groups didn't get pigeon holded like they are now. It was possible then for a metal band to open for a soft rock act like Journey. A friend of mine told me that, during his first solo tour, Ozzy opened for Kenny Loggins
I remember this show at the Los Angeles Coliseum. That really was pretty good show...and yes Journey did put on a pretty good show. This was before "Open Arms" and soft ballad stuff that gave that band a black eye among their loyal fan base. Cheap Trick and Molly Hatchet were there too! Also put on a good show. This show happened in July of 1980. Yeah bring back memories...
