Vince McMahon Sr really deserves more credit. So does Good Ole JR because JR is the one who did most of the ideas for the "Attitude Era." Few people realize that JR was the head storyline writer during that time. He even came up with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

His dad was strongly apposed to the idea of going into direct competition with another territory. It was Vince Jr. who took the promotion from regional, to global. HE beat out all the other territories not his dad. His dad was old school and it was against etiquette back then to run in another persons territory and Vince Sr would have no part of it.

Vince Jr. bought the company from his dad in 1982. In 1984 Vince Sr. died. Vince Jr. took over every other promotion and brought the WWF into the "golden age" in 1985 and held the first ever Wrestlemania. Then it was the "New Generation" then came the monday night wars, then to win the "war" Vince began putting out a more 'edgy product' (Which has been donned the "attitude era" because of marks like you) in 1998. LONG AFTER Vince Sr. was dead. Prove me wrong. I dare you.
