  • The Epiphone model Sg's that literally smoke the Gibson models are the 2010 model Epiphone G400. Standard 62 Sg and the 2011 Epiphone limited edition 50th Anniversary 1961 Sg reissues there's a few more. And there's many Epiphone les Paul's that literally crap all over the Gibson models and its not even Argueble not at all!

  • 2009corte you take a Epiphone les paul custom or black beauty and play them side by side with the Gibson

models you wont or can't tell the difference and if say that you can my friend I'll say to you your full of pure dog shit! Gibson hasn't made a better certain Epiphone models of the Sg or LP's and other certain model Epiphone guitars since 2008. And you can bet your ass on that one pal that's for dam shure!

  • now i show you how to record an 80$ guitar : watch?v=TVEoIsF6W-k

now compare the sound to this gibbon guitar ahahahah

  • Epiphone was in the united states for over 75 years before moving over sea's in 1976. Today Epiphone has now been a American guitar company for over 110 years. Today's Epiphone workforce in China are mostly from the USA. From Top management to master luthiers and they are from Gibson and Epiphone USA. Today Epiphone Is once again a great guitar company And puts our Top professional quality guitars And they give there parent company Gibson one hell of a run for The money!

  • Since top master luthier Mike Voltzs left Gibson and joined Epiphone in 2001 his main goal was go make Epiphone a great guitar company once again. Today Mike Voltzs has most certainly done that and more! Most of today's Epiphone guitars are of top professional quality And every bit Gibson's equal and better and it's All because of Michael Voltzs luthier genius! So Mike Voltzs thanks for making Epiphone once again a great guitar company!!!!

  • first one sounded full, second one a bit scratchy, third one idk, fourth was full again. I'm gonna say the first and fourth were Gibsons.

  • With in the past 3 years at least Epiphone les Paul's and sg's have been made with such top professional quality it's almost impossible to tell them apart. Epiphones only down fall is there way under priced for the top quality they deliver today.

  • I dunno .. but i like that third tone. :)

  • *Epi LP Custom* Gibson LP Custom '58* Gibson LP '69 Deluxe* Epi LP Standard

  • I hate you ! So jealous !

  • I'll bet that if you put gibson pickups in the epis the sound would be pretty much identical to the real gibson, while saving a whole lot of money

  • @pmgferrari96 Not being rude or a smart ass, swear, but I liked the clarity and the tone of the Epis better, but all sweet anyway!

  • Best crafted guitars in the world at any price. Vintage Gibson has said the Epiphone custom shop limited edition 50th anniversary 1961 sg. Is 100% true to the original and that Gibson themselfs could NOT have done a better job than Epiphone.

  • First off theres only 2 guitar companys in the world that craft the real endorsed lp and sg and they are Gibson and Epiphone. Now a recent USA Consumer Report has stated that the Gibson USA Authorized Epiphone lp and sg are some of the best crafted guit

  • epi gibson gibson epi

  • @purplepineapple117

    So which is which then?

    BTW Good gtr+Crap player=Crap sound Bad gtr+Good player=Good sound

  • @geckobaldy I would say it goes Epi lp custom, then gibson lp standard custom, then gibson lp with P90's, then Epi lp elitist. I just wished he was recording on a better mic at least a yeti or something. But in any case I believe the last one sounded "better"(My taste) then the others since it's the epi elitist... so it actually weights like a real lp which is about 10ish pounds 9.7 about.

  • @geckobaldy I believe it goes epi custom, then gibson standard, then gibson lp deluxe with P90's, then epi elitist. The reason I believe the last one sounded "better" (My taste) was because the epi elitist actually isn't chambard so it weighs like a real lp that's about 9.7+ish pounds and the new lp for the most part weigh about 7.8+/- pounds.

  • Funny thing is, is that they all sound so good and very similar. So I would take an epi at a fraction of the cost of a gibson! thank you very much.....

  • that third guitar was badass which one was that

  • epi, gibson, gibson, epi.

  • 1 Epi 2 Gibson 3 Gibson 4 epi that was easy i guess :P

  • I cycled between :27 and :50 and listened to the smoothness and intonation of the A chord. I heard the Gibson as number2. I could of been wrong had the Gibson be out of tune and the Epi setup perfect. But when a Gibson has everything spot on its a very musical sounding guitar. I find the difference between a no name strat and Fender strat harder to distinguish if the woods, scale length and pickups etc are identical. Perhaps because they are parts guitars.

  • Epi gib gib epi for sure go epiphone

  • epiphone, gibson, gibson, epiphone

  • gib then epi becuz the gibsons pickups are a bit louder

  • epi - gib - epi - gib is my guess. nice laney amp btw.

  • 2 and 3 gibson?

  • I got it exactly right, epi gib gib epi,the gibson just sounds deeper,or richer

  • number 2 sounded the best. listen to the epis high strings get all trebly and disguisting, not as much as the gibson - ON THE NECK PUP!

maybe its the amp i mean its horrbile...

    SG <3

  • number 3 sounded best in my headphones

  • 1)Epi 2)Gib 3)Gib 4) Epi

  • Epiphone's sounds better to me :)

  • you realy like les paul!

  • for me, Epi's have a better low end sound. I think i rather that than Gibson's hotter sound.

  • Its the fourth one, much cleaner sound!!

  • Damn, last two sounded great. Good video because it shows how much of a struggle it can be to distinguish between the two by ear.

There are crappy Epi's and there are really good ones that deserve to be a lot more expensive, just like there are Gibsons that are worth the extra money and ones that are obscenely overpriced.

Honestly, I don't think any "traditional" stock guitar deserves to cost more than $1000-1500 sinces there's only so much craftmanship involved.

  • if its very clear its gibson if it sound darker its epiphone

  • epi epi gib gib

  • man your set up! i wish i was you!

  • 1.) Epiphone 2.) Gibson cause of that real growl sound it makes 3.) Gibson 4.) Epiphone

  • Get a real amp, a JTM would be OK, and you will hear the difference clearly. This peavy makes them sound the same (amp has a lot of own character) ... the Gibson is a bit rounder, and has a bit more beef on your e string. How was my guess ?

  • @HagusYoung A "real" amp, like a JTM? The Laney GH50L full stack behind it doesn't count I suppose? There is nothing wrong w/ the Peavey Classics - they are great little amps particularly for the money. What we're all hearing here is the world's crappiest still camera recording microphone... This video really needs to be redone - although my MIJ Epis are gone and my MIK Custom has P90s in it now... I believe I have another video comparing the Deluxe and Epi w/ P90s in my account somewhere.

  • @HagusYoung "a JTM would be OK" if jim marshall and jimmy page heard u say that they would beat the shit out of u, the JTM was the amp that started it all ffs

  • @dicemansr77

i picked the 4th clip as the best sounding........ i'm pleased cause i just dumped a Gibson R9($5,700 new) for a Gold Top Elitist(paid $800) that honestly smoked it in feel, quality of build and tone.....thanks for confrming my decision !

  • honestly some epiphones are better than some of the cheaper gibsons like my epi les paul studio beats the 6 and 700$ gibsons but a 2500 gibson sg is definatly better than epiphone but over all if your good at guitar you can play just about anything so in my opinion it depends on the type of gibson.

  • i would say thats fair but you tried to play better on the gibson by adding some vibrato to the gibson

  • Holy shit u lucky basterd I wish I could have one of those guitars

  • the gibsons have a fuller sound to me, and ive never owned either a gibson or an epiphone so

  • Epi , G , G , Epi

  • 1.gibson 2.epiphone 3.gibson 4.epiphone

did i win a les paul?

  • I'm pretty damn sure that it was Fender, ESP, Yamaha, and Honda. LOL~~~ XD

  • Epi, Gibson, Gibson, Epi

  • 1# Epi or Gib

    2# Gib or Epi

    3# Squ or Fen

    4# Fen or Squ

  • G E E G

  • In just got an epiphone LP black beauty and i just looove it!!! <333

  • this just goes to show that america's build quality is either going down or the japs are getting better. back in the 60s and 70s you could easily tell.

  • @PopExpo I think it's both actually.

  • k i have 2 epiphone elitist guitars and i just bought me a new gibson les paul traditional pro and i think the elitist pickups sound better then the burstbucker 3 i have in my gibson. am i retarded? should i swap my gibson pickups for some elitist ones?

  • i have a gibson LP STUDIO (I know they're not the most expensive) and an epi LP STANDARD (the "expensive" one) I use the epi constantly, love it to bits.Cant warm to the gibson at all,no matter what I do with it. the epi plays and sounds better every time..........that sounds wierd to you.....but a decent epi ain't a bad guitar in my opinion.as I said I love mine and before anyone jumps in with any of their worldly wisdom,I'm 41 yrs old and been playing guitar for 30 of them.

  • 1.epi 2.gibson 3.gibson 4.epi

  • #1:epiphone

    #2:gibson

    #3:gibson

    #4:epiphone

  • Epiphone, Gibson, Gibson, Epiphone would be my guess.

  • i thought the first one was a gibson, and the last one was an epiphone! =O I feel ashamed

  • The is €,GG,€ but if the humbucker pick-ups on the €piphones were changed to burstbuckers, the sound between them and the Gibsons would indistinctive

  • the epi at the end of the bed is mine! redburst love it!

  • i can't tell the difference at all for some reason >.<

  • I love my Epiphone les paul custom black beauty

That thing has an almost gibson tone when you change the pickups to some Seymour duncans.. High end epiphones can sound like gibsons the only difference is the logo your paying for (and obviously the quality and where its made for any pissed of guitar gurus looking at me like im an idiot)

  • I think 1.Gibson 2.Epiphone 3.Gibson 4.Epiphone

  • 1. Epiphone Les Paul Custom

    2. Epiphone Eliitst Les Paul Standard

    3. Gibson Custom Shop 58 Les Paul Standard

    4. Gibson 69 Les Paul Deluxe with P-90

    Yes/No?

  • Was the 1st an Epiphone LP Custom? But it's a Custom! Some days ago, i played a LP Custom (made in China - 2008/9) and a Fender Telecaster (Made in USA) in a shop, and the Epi was more powerful and mellower. And I found in this video the Epiphone Elitist and both Gibsons (even the '69 from the called "bad" Norlin era) sound more.

  • Yeah I don't play it much though and it's heavy as shit lol. And yeah I looove my Fender. How are Les Pauls? I have never really played one.

  • Haha you think so? Ok well I have an Epiphone g-1275 (double neck) in white, a Mitchell acoustic (with a cutaway) and you guessed it; a Strat (black with a maple fretboard and is made in mexico)

  • @jimihendrixfan2008

A Doubleneck! I've never even played one - how is it? I'd imagine its a boat anchor (heavy). And, MIM Fenders are quite decent.

  • Ass hole you have 4 and I can't get 1 you are an ass

  • @scooter4lyfe1

4? I have something like 25 or 30. And, no, you can't "get" one.

  • I like the second one the most, but everyone sais it's the epi. i have an epi and i love it.

  • @ImaGonnar The second one is my 1969 Gibson LP Deluxe w/ P90s. It is my favorite of the bunch as well.

  • gibson, epiphone, gibson, gibson

  • Sweet guitars dude. I only have 3 lol

  • @jimihendrixfan2008 3 is plenty! And, thanks! So what are your 3? Heres to hoping that its a Les Paul, a Strat or Tele, and a semi-hollow. Given your user name, I'm sure one of them is a Strat, right?

  • @jimihendrixfan2008 i have just 1 :(

    but im just 12 ;D

  • Hey, Diceman.

You were one boy who said the Epiphone Elitist is better than the Gibson Studio. How does it compare to a Gibson Standard?

  • @masc073 Elitists are as good as anything Gibson makes... period. The big difference, and it is a big difference, is that the Elitists have a poly finish, where Gibsons have nitrocellulose. I'll take a Nitro finish any day of the week over Poly. That said, Elitists are top of the heap.

  • 1: Gibson 2: Epi 3: Epi 4: Gibson

  • @ObaMasEviLTwiN

You've got it exactly backwards! ;)

  • @dicemansr77 wow really? i thought the same exact thing...

  • @dicemansr77 me too, yes!!!!! :-D

  • @ObaMasEviLTwiN Nice ear man :D

  • Gibson-->Epiphone-->Gibson-->Epiphone?

  • so many guitars :O

  • In my opinion the biggest difference is the finish but the tone's almost the same.

  • no its gib epi gib epi.. u can tell my they cword at the end of the lick

  • dude ....u must be rich...... btw nice guitars and nice amps

  • was the epis the first and last played?

  • @batachav Yes!

  • gibsons are olny so much cause of the name and each one is handbuilt and they have morther of preal inlays( really realyl expencive grantie) and aslo there pick ups are slightley better than an epis and the wood grain is better i personley i like epis bett u can get 5 epis for the price of one gibsonstanderd les paul goldtop wich cots 2500 so do u want 5 guitars or one?

  • 1: Epiphone

    2: Gibson

    3: Epiphone

    4: Gibson

    Am I right?

  • @TheSugarFreedom The last two need to be reversed. EGGE

  • He called you GOD!!

  • is it me or the guitar doesnt sound like a 1000 dollar different

  • Honestly in electrics the difference can be affected by so many other things that a high end Epi can be more than enough of a guitar. BUT in acoustics the difference is greater, the Epi Masterbilt line (I have an AJ-500M) is pretty amazing but a real Gibson acoustic just can't be beat!

  • I think the order is Epiphone, Gibson, Gibson, Epiphone.

  • @aeroforce9609 And, you're correct!

  • barely. but thats just me. to me, the gibsons sound better, but definitely not worth the cost. there are far better guitars for waaay less

  • 2,3 are the best sounding imo

  • @jagjaghuh They're also the Gibsons! ;)

  • i think the first one is an epiphone, second one a gibson, third one a gibson, and the fourth one an epiphone. If i'm wrong, dont hate! i never claimed to be a guitar expert :P

  • @greensp4rk You're an expert... well, you're right, anyway!

  • we could clearly see the difference on a really good amp, i mean if you wanna see clear in the cleans, you should show what it's like in a fender. What I heard is that the first guitare was the worst to me

  • @aloys69 I wouldn't agree with you there. I have two 60s Blackface Fenders - and the Classic 30 sounds *almost* as good as either. What we're missing here, is that I recorded this clip with a terrible video camera!

  • Epiphone is amazing for the money. Drop in some Gibson humbuckers and it's close enough. Especially if you're playing in a band where small changes in tone don't matter that much and non-guitar playing listeners cant tell a difference.

For the money Epiphone is great. For true overall quality (and honestly, a bit of an inflated price tag) Gibson still wins. I mean, a $2400+ guitar better be better than a ~$600 guitar.

  • @jacobtheguitarfreak I agree with you 100%. Well, I wouldn't use Gibson pickups - get some decent handwinds for that same money!

  • @dicemansr77 Yeah i said Gibson pickupsin the Epiphone because they'll be the same pickups in the Gibson. I agree though, there are definitely better pickups out there for the same price. I still love my 57 Classics though, they're the only good Gibson pickups imo. Bought em to match in my Gibson Explorer

  • hey dude its normal that the gibson is better its first made of the finest qualeties of wood and 2nd itsdone more by hand than an epi, i don t say that epi is bad epi is very good for the money you pay and sometimes epi is better than a gibson but in the most cases gibson stay better

  • @nicoordie I'm with you...

  • @nicoordie me too

  • I feel the first is slightly muddier than the other three.... But its just my (slightly biased) opinion. :P

  • slight difference but honestly id go wit the Epiphone since i have the standad one and people always tell me it sounds like the real 2,000 dollar one!

  • I can hear the difference even on my computer with crappy speakers and soundcard. I can't even imagine what it sounds like in real life, Epiphone sux! they are all made of plywood material, you can never make it sound like a Gibson, no matter how many pickups you swap out, thats a fact! you need a massive mahogany body for that

  • @satjathamma You need to do some research. Epiphones have solid mahogany bodies with maple tops. Check their website...or any catalog. Only the really low-end Epi's (the $149 ones) are plywood.

  • @OddTimeMan Agreed. Epis use low grade wood - but it is "real" wood. I think that the biggest issues w/ Epis is in construction. Most of those neck pockets are terrible - with gaps on one side of the tenon being very common.

  • @satjathamma Well, they aren't PLYwood - but they are multi piece lower grade woods, for sure. Tone is mostly in the fingers, though - I'm a firm believer in that. And, that is also why all of my guitars sound like shite!

  • The Epi is really a bang for the buck :D

  • custom shop 58

    elitist

    69' gibson

    epiphone lespaul custom?

    i guess

    haha

  • 2nd is a gibson

  • @BigTy3986

    Thanks! And, you're correct.

  • lol nobody gets that gibson is highly overated company but i would sure love to have one les paul supreme

  • @DuDe1040

I wouldn't call them "highly overrated" - but you sure do pay for what you get.

  • @dicemansr77 oh no sir you pay a lot more than you get...i bet if i put a gibson neck on an epiphone body you wouldnt even notice the difference and pls dont tell me you would

  • @DuDe1040

First, you can't go slapping Gibson necks on anything.

Nitro finishes feel and age much different than Poly, and are more expensive to apply. 1 piece necks made from Honduras are much more expensive than 2 piece neck / 2 piece heel mystery wood. My Gibsons have 1 piece Honduras bodies - Epis use 4-5 piece bodies. 2 piece maple cap v. 4 piece alder cap w/ a veneer on Epis. Hardware is much nicer on Gibson, so are the electronics. USA v. Chinese construction...

  • @dicemansr77 GOD you are stupid -.-

  • @DuDe1040

    "GOD you are stupid"

Fuck off, buddy. It is rather apparent that YOU don't have a clue what you're talking about - and I'm assuming that you're not "speaking from experience" on this one.

  • @dicemansr77 DuDe1040 sounds extremeley retarded, you are right with the necks i have a model strat made by tradition and that would be like me trying to put the sg gibson neck on it, it just wouldnt work

  • @DuDe1040

So if you're fine with a guitar made from 13 or so pieces of wood, and you don't require a Nitro finish, and if YOU can't tell the difference, stick with the Epi.

That '69 Gibson of mine does not even compare to the Epi when you have them in your hands. Night and day. I'm not at all an anti-Epiphone person, but a vintage and/or high end Gibson blow the Epi out of the water in terms of fit, feel, tone subtleties, etc. That said, it is unlikely your audience will be able to tell.

  • @dicemansr77 I'm not saying you shouldn't stick to your opinion but you made this video to find out what other people thought of the guitars, right? But as soon as someone shares their opinion you have to tell them they are wrong... what the fuck? I mean why don't you encourage people, like say the epi is for beginners and the Gibson is for more experienced people. What you did was like saying "your sisters a whore and you will never amount to anything" Well..... Ouch.

  • epi gib 3rd not sure 4th gib

  • I can't say what is what. I think it's a mix o the sound quality and my bad ear for tones :-)

  • @KimAvlastenok

Mostly the sound quality, I think! I would have pulled this video long ago if it wasn't so popular!

  • epi - gib - gib -epi

  • It´s definately Epiphone, Gibson, Gibson, Epiphone. But again, not a 2,000 dollar difference.

  • Epiphone Les Paul Custom, '69 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe (with P90's), Gibson Custom Shop 58 Reissue , Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard. :D! ^^

  • @barcelonadk

    Spot on.

  • ummmm ...Epi Gib Gib Ep?

  • @chushu279 Yeah you say ummmm and your comment is 3 weeks old and the guy who sed epi gib gib epi hes comment is 3 months old !!!(copy)!!!

  • @MrNate1995

Not that much! I just invest poorly. My R8 is worth as much as my car. ;)

  • Are all these guitars yours?

  • @dom4guitar

I've since sold the Epi Elitist, but, yes.

  • you like les pauls dont ya!

  • Epi, Gib, Gib, Epi but no big diffrence for me

  • ep gib ep gib

You can hear more clarity in the gibson mainly on the final chord.

I got it first time, but when I listen back im not sure

  • Looks like I got it right by ear, though I wasn't sure about the last guitar. It's easier to tell the difference in person (no mic, no youtube quality issues)

  • i'd say epiphone, gibson, gibson, epiphone. Not quite sure with the shotty sound quality

  • no i cant tell good vide they sound almost the same.

  • Epi,Gib,Gib,Epi

  • jealous

  • I'm selling an Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Plus Top Electric Guitar...Info/video on my channel.

  • I think people are fooling themselves if they find one better then another. I do have an Elitist LP Standard Plus which is very nice.

  • Wow, I was totally thrown off guard. Goes to show you do not have to fork out the big bucks, for the best axe. I think the Elitist is best.

  • sigh, even in a blind test i like the reissue 58... how am i going to afford one?
