I have a guitar almost identical to this; honey in colour and without body binding. My Charvel is amazing but I do need to defend its honour amongst my Suhr/ Anderson guitar playing friends; seen by them as a vintage reissue for nostalgia. I would like to see Charvel compete with Suhr/ Anderson etc by upgrading them with coiling tapping for versatility, sperzal lock-ables, neck-through for superior access and stability and deeper/winder forearm cut for comfort. Modern features would transform it
@TruNikkaz Yeah, the tone really is from the density and the mass of the wood. The reason why Les Pauls can't be characterized as anything else but a Les Paul is because it's high wood mass and density. Mounting the pickups into the wood does affect the tone, but is it nicer or better sounding? No, that is a subjective topic. It may sound better to him, but for me and for you, I say, mounting rings, for the win.
@mgrein93 Uhhh... I'm not sure what you mean. "Good tone" is really just subjective. What suits me tonally may be different from what suits you tonally. The idea about pickup rings, it's more of a feel or visual type of appeal. What ever is more comfortable for you, just go for it.
How ever with tone, many people say "heavier guitars sound better". It's probably to have to do with how much material there is to resonate. The more material, the better, I guess. I probably have no idea though.
@mgrein93 What I meant was the physical perception of soundwaves. How they are created and are affected by different aspects of a guitar. I was just wondering if you could notice changes in the individual amplitude and wavelength.

Nice guitar. My only complaint is, pick up rings kick ass, and at the end of the day make pretty much no difference in your tone. Other than that, she's a beute!
dude theres alott more to tone than you know the type of wood you use on the body and the neck and fret board were u place the pickups and how the neck is fitted all effect the tone.
Wow! I love the design. The ONLY thing I might change is maybe the pickups. I'd put SD EVH 78 humbuckers in the neck and bridge instead. But, hey, I'm sure the stock ones sound great too though. Is that OFR bridge floating or recessed?
brothuh you should check out joey palimary's "brown sound" pickup. Joey worked for SD in the custom shop, but now he has his own company called GENESIS PICKUPS. The brown sound is his evh, but better than the SD, and he has them in stock, no wait time!!!!

No, I thought you know what? Let's just stick them into the wood so we get a killer tone.

leaving the wood untouched sounds the best

Mounting pickups directly to the body makes a BIG difference compared to suspending them in rings.

@ten8goa
You can't adjust the height of the pickups, though. That bugs me
