@Sheri451 yeah, she's a miracle. she doesn't even need the therapy anymore. She walks. She runs. We walk her on her leash every evening after she eats her dinner, along with our other 2 dogs. She still needs to have her bladder squeezed, etc, since she has no control of that area, but regardless, she walks, and is quite a miracle dog! Bottom line, if you have a dog that becomes paralyzed due to a slipped disc, or whatever, consider electro accupuncture. It really works!!
@doronm63 How much does this cost? We have a Dachshund too and he loves to jump off our beds and off the sofa. He already messed up his back a few years ago, but the Vet said two of discs fused together.
@Sheri451 well, it all depends on the vet. the first thing you need to do is find out if your vet, or another vet in your area, does electro accupuncture. that's the first thing. the next thing is to keep your Doxie from jumping on and off the furniture. that is so bad for their long backs. Try getting those pet steps and put them at the bed and sofa and train him to go up and down those steps.
I love this, I know you all told me she could do it but to see it really brought tears of joy to my eyes, and yes she does have the most amazing doe eyes! ♥ it!!!!
@Cre8tiveBabe Oh and she just runs around the house again like she used to, albeit with a bit of a drunken gait to her, but walks and runs non the less!
@MayAndrewsx Thanks. She is actually walking again, although, she walks like a drunken sailor since she has no deep pain sensation in the back half of her body. The vet calls it "spinal walking", where the signals make it all the way down to the tail again, and the legs walk as if a reflexive movement. Over time she may or may not regain deep pain, but either way, she is walking again, and even if she doesn't regain 100% of her original mobility, she is a happy, feisty little clown of a dog.
@51906848 Give it time. It's a slow process. It can take 6 months or longer. Depending on how old the dog is and the seriousness of the surgery it can take longer. Precious didn't have surgery. All we have been doing is the acupuncture with electrical stimulation, which has to do with electrodes clipped onto the needles and electricity through varying degrees charged through for 15 minutes or so. i highly recommend that part with the acupuncture. Also, various exercises, like sit stands, etc.
I think she's doing a great job of walking in the tub. They do water therapy on people too.

@doronm63 I finally got a job. So I'll get some as soon as I get my first paycheck. I think I'll call Pet Smart to see what sizes of steps they have.

My doxie just started acupuncture and after one week no change yet. He had already had 2 surgerues. What is electrical stimulation?
