  • I have an old ceiling fan, I want to use for something else. I am not an expert electrician but I want to slow the motor down. What would be the best way to go about this?

  • @alweld If it is an induction motor, then you need to change the voltage of the AC running it, to change it's speed. Don't use a light-dimmer to do this, as it will probably destroy the dimmer. ;-)

  • Thanks a lot for the reply. I feel kinda stupid for not reading further where you mentioned you had added PMs to make it a 3 phase PM motor. I'm working on a similar experiment using an automotive alternator as a motor with a home made sensorless BLDC. Instead of a PM rotor, I intend to have variable rotor current to allow higher rpm before back emf = applied voltage. Although slightly less efficient, I hope to eliminate gear changes with the broader torque vs rpm selection.

  • ceiling fans are induction motors. Therefore I think you would have a rather narrow rpm band, in spite of using a variable frequency AC source to drive the motor. Am I right? The induction motor requires "slip" to create AC in the rotor conductors, thus magnetizing it.

  • @stinkfoot151: You might read the description, where I replaced the induction ring with magnets and am using a BLDC controller for it with the existing coils rewired for three-phase. ;)

That said, a friend rewound this motor for me a little bit ago, and recently found me some good magnets (rather than the wrongly-poled HDD magnets I used in the experiment), so eventually this will be retried using a much heftier BLDC controller off an ebike, to drive a bike via it's chain drive.

  • nice job dude keep it up... and OMFG ppl read his discription, he did add magnets to it, to make a BrushLess DC Motor, Its not the scam fake "free energy" bedini, and it all ready is a ganerator if he spun it up. all motors are generators, but he's not trying to make a generator, or the good for nothing bedini, he his working on a BLDC motor that can be used for something. why take the time to comment and sound like an IDIOT and not read what he wrote. Keep up the good work

  • I am working on my own brushless motor which i am hoping to use as a Paramotor.

I have rewind many home made motor after all for my rc planes. I really would love to have one of thoes fam motor you have here.. :-), but if it was me i would cut every other touth so there is much more place for a lot of cupper windings, and the remove the inner windings too, so you dont use 2 much energi and producing so little power when they are so far away...Good luck.. :-)

  • im planning to use a hall effect sensor to trigger a transistor ( bedini ) im using a 12V car battery - do you know how i can do this and what sensor i can use with the supply? any info will help out. cheers

  • @lykenth08 No, that's beyond my experience.
