  • I am using OSX Lion 10.7.3. I am having the same problem as Cascone. When I switch to DCHP manual, I loose internet connection. I have a linksys WRT54GS router with firmware v1.50.5. it looks like the same one Pilsbury is using in this video. Its driving me crazy! Please help.

  • I change my ip from DCHP to manual and I lose connection to the internet. Im using a 2WIRE router from AT&T U-verse.

  • @CasconeTheN What OS are you running... Some require you to manually put in the router IP and subnet

  • @CallMeKram OSX Lion

  • GEORGE CORNICK

  • whenever i change the DHCP thing and enter in my own IP the internet stops working until i change it back

  • what i have to do if i don't want to put passcode

  • @TheAppleonfire you don't have to if you don't want to

  • @ju5tin95 if you are talking about adding the client machine in ARD, you just put in the ip and for the user and password you put in the use name you used when setting up the client machine and the password for that user. Let me know if that's better.

  • I don't really understand, but thanks anyway.

  • It doesn't work... there is more than one computer on my network, so they all have the ip from ipchicken... what do i do?

  • @geckolizardsrock Hello this is PilsburyTV on my new account but if you have or trying to access 2 or more macs over the internet using apple remote desktop you will need to set up a VPN because you can not change the ports needed with ARD some routers have a build in VPN or you can google search it.

  • @007massey no you can use any ip you would like. I just use 192.168.1.5 because my router automatically assigns devices IPs between 192.168.1.222 - 192.168.1.999. So if I assigned it 192.168.1.459 for example, it might give another computer or device the same ip. If you would like, I can make a video explaining all of this.

  • @PilsburyTV i would like to see a video on this if your still willing.

  • @PilsburyTV Just want to make a quick note that anything above x.x.x.254 is not a valid address. Your router should not let you set a DHCP pool using an address higher than x.x.x.254. If it does something is odd in your router.

So the number in the last octet (8 bits) of the IP address can't be anything you want. It has to be no less than 1 and no higher than 254 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

In technical terms there are 8 bits 111111111 is 255 and 00000000 is 0, obviously, in binary.
