Love these guys, hue fan since '86. I remember recording this from countdown on VHS, unfortunately lost the tape. Thanks for posting this, great stuff. I remember the guys saying they didn't like to mime. The classic shots are Greg's (aka Spock) keybourd has the plug hanging under it !! With Pete & Richard (lead guitar & bass) have no leads attached. Love this clip, great band, fantatsic memories.
@zigmo2 Check out this clip of Dragon on Hey Hey in 1986, Tommy pops his E string at 4:10 watch his hand closely he keeps playing even though his hand is not moving now thats talent.
I remember seeing this exact footage when it originally aired on Countdown when I was just an 8-yr old kid and I've remembered it ever since... I was just getting into Icehouse and INXS at the time, and these guys just totally blew me away. F-ing awesome.
i REMEMBER THE BOYS GETTING READY FOR THIS CLIP, DALE HAD FUNKY NEW SHOES, THE GLAMS ALL CAME IN AND MADE THEM GORGEOUS (LIKE THEY NEEDED IT)DONNA TOOK LOTS OF PHOTOS. I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST HEARD IT ON THE RADIO AND SAW THE CLIP ON COUNTDOWN I NEARLY PASSED OUT. SUCH EXCITING DAYS SUCH WONDERFUL MEMORIES AND SO MANY MORE AMZING SONGS...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF MY YOUTH!!! JULES XX
You guys are all missing the point - great song, but the lipsyncing is a joke. They don't even bother with microphones - is the drummer really making any noise? The things people do for money and fame - humiliation - how can they be taken seriously as artists?
@Harpo1917 You obvously have NO understandng of how Countdown (which this is taken from) in the mid '80's had artists perform. If you look at other appearances by bands around the same time they had mic's & leads missng as well. The band hated miming & would always try & make light of it. This was their debut single, their 1st time on Countdown, so if you were an artist in their shoes, what would you do? Try listening to some of the bands live material & view other Countdown images from mid '80s
@Harpo1917 True, very true. It goes to show how music presentation has evolved over the last 25 years. As well as how naive we all were back then. If you get a chance catch these guys live when their in your neighbourhood. You won't regret it. They are really great performers.
@zigmo2 Certainly will - depressing to note how things have deteriorated since then. I used to think 80s music was pretty empty and banal but not so compared to a lot of the drivel coming out these days, with a few notable exceptions
@Harpo1917 Your right on the button there. I think the top 40 charts (if they still have them) has gone in a very non impressive direction, particularly in the past 5 years. However as you said with "a few notable exceptions". I know I sound like an old man in saying "what happened to real music"? This is probably why people like you & I comment & cling to THIS music & not current trends?
@zigmo2 What drives me crazy is the fact that 90% of songs on the radio now are soppy love songs: aren't there so many other things happening in the world of interest? and what about relationships other than romantic ones?
@Harpo1917 I don't know where songs of substance have gone. At least we can take refuge in that the wall refered to in this song is the Hume Weir & the cracks in the Weir wall. Not some mental barrier to a relationship status !!
MCO is the F**kin shit. THey are the best, and I am so disgraced at the fact that being a music band/artist in Aus at most times takes u nowhere. Minimal to no promo from their record company = Gold has now disappeared.
I remember when they appeared on Countdown , it was return of th skivvy. So many people thought they were singing about th G8 Wall Of China, actually it was th Hume Weir !
this was on the day i was born!!!

@zigmo2 None of which refutes the absurdity of the whole process!
