  • OH JIM!!!

  • Gay Dad was the first gig I ever want to when I was like, 14 maybe.

    I went with my Dad.

  • I work for gay dad. He's such a fag.

  • I love this band, such a shame that people can't get passed the name...

  • tell me about it, I passed this to a "dj" at a poor but packed party....and got a bad kicking from a crack addled deck boy...couldn't hear me to explain...true!

  • The best band that never 'Made it' ..

No doubt internal differences ended in a split and the British music scene lost out... a name change may have been prudent given the internet age!!

  • andy bell left to join oasis

  • great song of a great band!

  • Well, whatever. It's a good song.

  • I prefer the version by Doris Day

  • omg! it's amazing what pops up when you type in "gay dad"!!!

  • I bought this album on the strength of this track but the real magic was in Dimstar, Black Dog, Pahfinder, Different kind of Blue. Anybody who likes Oh Jim would love the rest of the album.... if you can still find it anywhere!

  • update, I just uploaded Joy!

  • I love this song.

Someone should upload A little joy

  • Great song! but when I asked "What are you listening to?", I can't say "Gat Dad!".lol

Why did they choose that name? I wonder...

  • 060stone403 (4 months ago) Show Hide 0 Great song! but when I asked "What are you listening to?", I can't say "Gat Dad!".lol

Why did they choose that name? I wonder...

Cliff perhaps isnt so much into women .... he isnt rock hudson that way ...... doh

  • haha. but just not being into women doesn't mean "Gay".

I think there is a deep meaning with that name.

I want to ask them why they named that strange name to their band.

  • Maybe Gay Dad will give the Chilis back their riff if they return all those bass lines they "borrowed" from the Gang of Four.

    "Talent borrows, Genius Steals"

  • Probably he refused to play Gay Dad because he knew that it's BRITPOP. Check it out...britpop is against american music! they have nothing to do with gays...anyway they aren't gay ;)

  • yep yep your right

  • "britpop is against american music"

Not true, Britpop was a reaction to Grunge's dominance in the early nineties as well as a nostalga for 60's and 70's British Music. As well as that it react against the lack of glamour and art in the scene at the time.

Gay Dad weren't really Brit-pop. They were more influence by the Prince, New wave and Americana than brit acts like the Kinks, Beatles and Small Faces.

  • I once read that an American DJ refused to play an album by a group called "Gay Dad". I think that is ignorant because being Gay isn't a bad thing nor is being a Dad. But I guess the stereotype that rages in America is that being gay means you are a child molester and if you are a gay Dad then you molest your kids. Which is stupid because statistics prove that a strait person is more likely to molest kids. There are lots of "real" gay fathers in the world or bi-fathers. Nothing worng with that.

  • PS sorry for the rant. I know it didn't have much to do with this video. Just that it's a catchy title and I see it as an innocent thing, also it's a title that makes you think. But in the US people don't want to see past their bias and stereotypes based on ignorance and fear.

  • I think 'Gay Dad' were neither gay nor dads. However it's true that a Capitol Records promoter in the USA threatened to resign if he had to work with a band called it "Gay Dad". So they had little success over there.

  • i love this song, butGAY DAD!IM NOT A PHOBE BUT SOCIETYS ATTITUDE WERE NEVER GONNA HAVE IT!sad though as they were a good group.how about lesbo nan as an alternative!lolx

  • denying a child the right to have a mother is the issue, not the sexuality of the adopters.

  • carly! im impressed! oh joy is my fave tho xxx

  • im ok when you're ok,

i feel fine when u feel fine

    wicked song!

  • Brilliant song! Great Band! Hopefully one day they will be back

  • always thought he was the illegitimate son of Brian Jones Rolling Stones

  • haha..thats a funny name

  • has anybody got the CD and would send me the songs?

I live in germany, and it's impossible to get it here =(

  • nee, ist nicht unmöglich - ich hatte sie mal vor 7 Jahren oder so und da habe ich sie gut bekommen. Gib mal bei Amazon gay dad ein, da bekommst du sie schon ab 99 Cent!

  • To Earth with Love now uploaded by me. Will be up for about a week.

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • this is shit hot rock ! why didnt they make it?? no great mistery...

    1. badly chosen name ( taboo subject!)

    2. being too good creates a lot of jealousy!!

this lot were so far in front of the mediocrity and drivel that call themselves rock bands at the time.

  • Great band ..great songs...shit name...thats what stopped them ^^

  • I have played this CD so much that it is practically unplayable. Now I have to find another one. Why these guys never were MASSIVE is beyond me.

  • It's incredible. When they put out To Earth With Love, they were being hailed by many critics as being the best new thing in 1999, but then come their follow-up singles, album and their promotional "pedestrian-man" posters they were seen as being a marketing scam. I don't mind them, I thought Leisure Noise was great.

  • Yup. Leisure Noise is an awesome album -- shame it didn't work out for them -- highly under-rated band. Great voice, that dude.

  • How was this band ever ignored by all but a few? Sacralige!!

  • ur right they were a great band but critics thought they where trying to be like mansun

  • Gay dad was great. I love the song "Little Joy."

  • I still don't get it. One of those bands who were so original ignored for all the pop tripe that runied the charts that year in 1999.

This song and video is amazing like the rest of the stuff they did, only made #47 in the charts!!, WHY!!?.

  • They don't make em like that any more I tell yer x

  • A great record. More fool everybody.

  • Is jim this gay dad hes singing about ?

  • what a great song :)

  • emotional, really

  • Would love it if someone had a live recording of "My Friends and I"

  • one of the truly great and sensational bands of our time, scandously ignored.

luv 2 see vid 4 "earth with love" and "transmission"

  • God bring back those days! miss them - fantastic vid brought back good memories

  • I agree with you! I saw them in Belfast supporting Catatonia and can say it was one of the best days ever! I miss those carefree times. Gay dad were superb. Are there any more of their videos? To Earth with joy was a great song.

  • I havent seen that in decades :P thanks for putting it up !
