@AtzengamerMemphis I've seen V8s that people had JB welded the block where at least two rods have blasted through (to keep the oil in), running on 3 cylinders or less, gaskets universally blown, carb hardly getting air and fuel through because it's all crapped up with mouse nest and crappy, 15-year-old gas, run for over two months of hard driving in the old farm fields outside of Astoria, OR. Old school V8s are bulletproof.
@brapboys503 A SBC won't run if less than 6 cylinders are firing correctly. So I doubt any car is gonna be running on 3. But yeah, i've seen people do some weird shit to keep those farm trucks going.

Wankel engine done throwed a rod! My 68 Beetle overheated after the radiator fell out then the driveshaft broke out of the rear end. Got to find out what type of antifreeze to put in my Corvair.
@Hebert6760 Yeah as long as that fan/generator belt holds. I think they should have intergrated the fan with the flywheel or front pulley maybe even the generator too. There'd be nothing to destroy a vdub except lack of oil.

I would have taken the motor apart instead of blowing it for a couple of reasons: use the engine as a practice template on how to port your own engines; street port, bridge port, maybe P-port, bigger exhaust port, etc) If the engine had a coolant leak maybe the N/A rotors might be salvageable (8.5:1 compression ratio) use those rotors with a S5 13BT engine with a ball bearing turbo and make the car a rotary rocket. You can salvage many parts for future engine work. Just my opinion.

Part of the issue is that at that RPM the water pump is cavetating so bad it causes the engine to overheat ...the water pumps are not designed fro more than 7k for any length of time.
@babyzachariot birks95 makes a great point also...1/2 of this motor is already TOAST with bad apex seals...and it still can perform! Also this motor is a 88' (or so) motor...what year is your K series? A bit newer technology. And go to RACING BEAT and check out their BONNESVILLE WORLD RECORD (3 of them) holders.Rotaries ROCK.

How do you wanna ride this engine into rotary's hell if you don't cut off the oil pressure or the cooling? The rotary piston cannot burn down..... I'm sure, with that engine you could drive 150000Km again!
