Hi jason, i have a question concerning tone. I have recently started to experiment on different amps but i get a kind of skwaky thin tone on the bends from the holes 3 and upwards. Is this due to my technique, hamronica or amps? i use special 20's which i think sound good acoustic, from my perspective anyway. I would appreciate your help, thanks skunk.
I would defintly try ropping your jaw when you play some more, and trying to create a bigger, wider, more relaxed chamber, ou'll hear without the amp first! If not try turning the treble down.
Got a Sonic Stomp yesterday. Man what a great piece of kit. Amazing how much better the amp sounds now! Thanks for the heads up on it. You da man! :-)
thanks for clarifying that. I'm just used to compressors in non-harpish settings(studio, guitar, ect.)
Also, this may help a bunch of folks, I noticed the Kinder anti-feedback is a little pricey (i'm sure it's well worth it and totally justified)
If say someone is on a tighter budget just starting out, is there any other pedal or rack gear you may recommend as say a "Poor man's" anti feedback pedal / solution?
Man Daddy! If you find a better solution than the Kinder LET ME KNOW! I'm under No endorsement with them and have been searching. unfortunatly John's the best, a great guy and his stuff is worth the money so I haven't been looking too hard to give you an answer. Sorry, and I hear you on the compression concerning other instruments argument...
Jason, I play on a Marble Harmaster with an integrated anti-feedback circuit by the manufacturer. It does a good job. I don't have to worry about feedback anymore and it still goes loud !
Sounding shit-hot there J. guess you wont be needing the egyptian anymore. It would look perfect in my front room if it's feeling left out and lonely. It would be much loved and cared for. blag blag blag.. . . . . . worth a try
Hi - Which is the best Boss Oc -2 to use as a pedal for Blues Harp is it the Japan black label one or are they all the same also is it true they can be used to cut feedback as well as for extra kick - Im thinking of buying one but i do not want to buy a new one only to find out the old one is best
The optical compressor settings are :Volume= 5, Compression=2-3, The Sonic Maximizer settings are : Low= 2-3, Processor=5-6, The kinder pedal is 1st knob= 9:00 oclock, 2nd= 5:00 oclock, 3rd= 12:00 oclock the delay is all knobs at 9:00 oclock the chorus and harmonizer change all the time with my moods and purposes the HG 50 is as follows: Volume between 3-8,Treble at 2, mid at 1 3/4, bass at 7 the tubes are a 5751 and a 12 AT two Svetlanna 6l6's and a groove tube 5AR 4.Hope that gets it
Hey Jason, Thanks for sharing this info. Very much appreciated. Would you please give a model number for the Beringer powered mixer? And, what kind of pedal board are you using? If you get close to San Diego again soon, please let me know.
Stevei sorry it's packed in the van...but beringer makes a bunch of them even one with one channel I think...all that matters is that it has an xlr input and basic eq settings (treble,mid,bass,etc..) and a GAIN knob...
That's really cool stuff, I'm saving my money 4 one starting today. And by the way, after all my countless hours of tryong 2 get overblows, i accidently got a overdraw w/ ease and now i'm using overdraws in my playing! Now when i play along w/ your records I can actually do some of the stuff that you are! That's been my goal since last summer.
Sonny JR. makes a GREAT amplifier so does Scooter and his Meteor but just FOR ME and MY SOUND this amplifier is much better! I actually preffered my bassman to those above two and I much prefer this rig over the bassman so in short I'm very, very happy withy this rig!
Hi Jason, Great sound!!! You mentioned that you will be changing your Harmonizer pedal soon. Have you got anything in mind already for a good octaver pedal? I personally have ehx POG which is great but I cannot it requires separate power supply.
hey man ...Yeah I just saw that they made a simpler version of the pog in a pedal...I'm not sure if it's any good but it's way smaller...is that what you got ...probably not if it needs a differant power supply...Let me know.
Micro Pog not as good IMHO. I have a big one and it is very good, especially the organ sound it gives. I mix it with rotating speaker effect from Line6 MM-4 so I can play an organ with the band. But the power supply is a pain in a backside
I can hear, that mic stright to HG50 sounds muddier, and too heavy distorted, not for my taste. I more like sound with your pedals. Really interesting video.
Do you worry about impedance? SM57 is low impedance mic. It seems that there is impedance convertor am I right?
I know that wireless covert signal to hi impedance. I'm interesting in ythe situation when you plug sm57 straight (?) to amp, do you use impedance transformer or you really have so loud sound with mic and amp only.
The amp sounds great alone. However, the pedals give more clarity, and "shimmer" to the notes. Jason's combined sound is such that I feel like I can "see" the notes as I hear them.
Jason: Roughly how much dough do you have invested in that pedal board? Sounds great but - like you say (and demonstrate) - the amp sounds great without any effects. That, to me, is a great demonstration that amateur players don't HAVE to plunk down a ton of money on pedals to get a fierce sound (not that the HG50 is exactly cheap -- but it's a very very fair price for the quality you get). Like you says, life's full of colors and diversity. Harp geeks are living in a gear golden age for sure!
Wireless=200.00 , Kinder+350.00, bbe OC =90.00, Boss Chorus 25.00 (used), Boss Harmonizer (used) 50.) Boss DM-2 (used 8 years ago) =75.00, BBE S.S. = 90.00 chords and power about 75.00....Can you add it up for me...seriously i just woke up...

I can get a hot tone... but not without a shitload of feedback. Besides your anti feedback pedal, does a compressor help?

The compressor certainly reduces feedback. Balances the highs mids and lows nicely and evens everythin out.

Thanks..

coming out of the wireless to 1/4 inch converts the 57 to Hi impeadence...The st8 in sound is better when the cam isn't having issues...

Great Video. It answered just the questions I had about playing straight in. What settings do you use on the amp? Treble down? Bass up etc.?
Also does the anti-feedback affect the sound any?
Sorry for all the questions but this is great information you have provided.

The PC mic is still distorting a little I think. Perhaps you could plug a quality mic into the PC and use it instead of the on-board one?
Anyway, I'm already a believer in the HG, thanks. ;P
