  • Ima buy this

  • my ears... BASS?!

  • This guys a joke. This pedals actually really fucking great, but because it has so many settings to tweak to get your perfect sound that it takes a while, this lazy douche probably just set everything at 12 o'clock and played something he ripped off of a thrash band no ones heard of. Don't let him fool you at all, I have this pedal and it's unbelievably great, but guitar world might've handed it to him right there on the spot and he had no idea what he was doing (and he still wouldn't)

  • AMazing! the demo guy actually managed to turn Guitarworld into Sitarworld!

  • Actually I liked this demo...some of the settings he used on this pedal seemed perfect for Asphyx or maybe early Entombed tone...

Hm, maybe I have to get one of these.

  • This guy just looks like a poser.

  • Just wondering Paul are you playing through a tube or a solid state amp and what kind.

  • ive ben playin for a year and a half and have a ltd viper i cant figure out how to make it squeel like they do in death metal can u tell me how. is just a vibrato and i dnt have the right effects or what.

  • @121mrniceguy A squeal is just a pinch harmonic. Distorted

  • What is heavier? This or the Dime distortion?

  • @pivotgodxd This!

  • "What's up!, it's Paul, and today we're gonna take a look at my new dildo! yey!!!"

  • That shit sounds like my line 6 insane setting anyone agree

  • @jackassfilms69 I don't think anyone did son... I'm sorry

  • Super pedal to the "metal" with a supprssor, I've lisened to a couple of video's with this silver lil box and Im sold. I will be etting one in the near future. But I will say one thing that Michael J. Fox joke, when I look back, I Freaking farted from laughing so hard. Still smiling writing this!!!!!!!!!

  • I didn't know Michael J. Fox did reviews on here..

  • tone is personal pref. this is $100 so is boss and digitech. the other pedals seem to do better because reveiws from years ago make it look tht way. the mxr(2009?) owns in parameters. and with the addition of the noise gate and mid scoop switches i was sold.in the I/0 fx biz modern tech never wins. until mxr comes out with a "full metal jaket" with 8 knobs and 3 channels lol, ill say the hell with the veterans, try somethin new youll b suprised. engineers are payed not to fail folks..rant over

  • Where are mids??? It sounds awful!!!

Cannot believe MXR created this thing.

  • This is a very good ulta high gain pedal "BUT"

If you dial it to sound shit it is your own fault.

The EQ in very powerful and capable.

  • i will buy this pedal

    so cool

  • Sounds like crap.

  • i own the thing and personally i think its sounds to digital for me

  • with this t-shirt he should play Looks That Kill main riff

  • okay,

    1) how well does the noise gate on this thing actually work?

    2) is the noise gate still active if you turn it on, but the pedal itself is off?

    3) and i know this pedal is designed for metal but is it good just to get a nice beefy fat distortion tone without going over the top like it is on the demo. e.g. things like van halen

  • @luco99 the gate is great.it works when the pedal is off.and the thing is worthy of 5150 studios.turn the gain down, highs up,and freq down for classic brown sound.great pedal

  • okay. EVERY youtube demo of this thing blows.... it's a shame, it's actually quite impressive... this one is the only good one... but it's in german :/

    youtube(DOT)com/watch?v=hFhIlc23Kdw&feature=grec_index

  • How does this sound tuned down? I usually split my signal between a DM4 into a Fender Super Reverb for highs/mids and an MXR Micro-amp into a 150W Marshall JMP, but I have to switch the Marshall head to a Peavy Musician (There's no model number or anything on it, just musician...) and run the DM4 to both of them with a different setting; and still doesn't sound a good. The lowest I go is C-standard.

  • man i think alot of you are too picky, i think it sounds cool

  • Of course he has a killer amp/speakers to assist. This pedal does not sound as good on theToneKings review.

  • he's Trying To Play Creeping Death 0:12 In The Intro And Later He's Try To Play For Whom The Bell Tolls 1:14 xD

  • this pedal is sick i wish they had it out before i bought my metal muff mxr needs to make one of these with a boost which just like the metal muff

  • how much is this little guy?

  • FUCK THIS GUY IS SHITTY!!!!!!! HE SUCK!!

  • @Bodom873 hes demonstrating a pedal, not showing off.

  • It sounds so thin

  • @mythic6199

thats because theres probably no bass dialed into the pedal

  • Is amazing how bad gutiarworld can make this pedal sound lol...

check out my video, I go in depth with the pedal and it sounds nothing like this.

  • never use pedals for your gain! you can always get better gain from an amp head! Add pedals that will complement your playing like reverb, and flanger. If you want a metal tone get an amp that suits it. Ex: ENGL, Messaboogie, Peavey... etc

  • God, this guy pisses me off.

  • i got this pedal at home.. i bringed it home before a hour and now iam just trying it.. but it sounds great.. :)

  • Sounds a little fizzy for my taste. That doesn't mean I think it sucks, it's just not for me.

  • sorry guys but you guys must really have bad ears. this pedal is great for havey metal and jsut because this guy may make it seem sounding bad, i dont think it does, considering the fact that he kept all the nobs at one place. if you were a good guitarist and know how to work a pedal with an amp, you will relise you can get a really cool tone on it. plus its got a scoop switch for kick ass soloing and a noise gate for getting those notes seperated on epic riffs. go MXR xD

  • at 0:15 i first thought... Creeping Death by Metallica LOL

  • sounds pretty crappy. Too much gain. Its too ear piercing. you need more punch to it. like kirk hammets rig. the right amount of bass and tone.

  • @FenderrMann

    lol kirk hammet

  • @Symm3trical5carz

your face is horrid rancid disgusting nasty rotting smelly poopoo ass shit

if it sucked so much, why are they reviewing it then?

  • It does suck, look at the ProGuitarShopDemos, imjsr, and well... this review. It sounds waaay too scooped, and its just a shrilly mess of high gain.

And yeah, GuitarWorld most likely does the reviews for the extra money they get from the companies to spread the word about their gear.

  • And IMO, GW's review of the Fuchs Noxious pedal was better. Unfortunately, they put the review title as the Fender Bandmaster.

  • @Symm3trical5carz couldn't agree more, i own one of these..running through a marshall dsl half stack with seymour duncan blackout pups installed in my guitar and it sounds amazing, but this sounds rubbish, shocking tone this is, on ya paul from guitar world! lol

  • for some reason :14-:29 really pisses me off. Its so annoying.

  • @Sto0pidPenguinPro It sounded thin and kind of like when you turn the mid up all the way.

  • Nice, paul generally doesnt do justice to metal pedals and amps in reviews, this one was much better

  • hey guys dont let these demos fool you this pedal is really good but it takes some time to dial in what you like

  • @g35crazy yeah I just bought one today and it sounds great. It does need to be dialed in properly though but once it is baaaaam.

  • @g35crazy absolutely ... i love this pedal i tried it in the effect loop of my engl invader and it sounden exactly like the 3rd channel with gainboost !! just turn down the gain on the pedal and give him many mids then it rocks

  • @g35crazy you stole my thunder dude......I bought it and was dissapointed for a few days.....then like you said....i played with it and im in fucking awe!!!!!!

  • if your gonna use a metal pedal why not a metal guitar =P

  • you can't say the Les Paul is genre specific. Its played in pretty much every type of music you can think of

  • @pool741 i agree, if your going to play metal, even death metal you dont use a les paul, you use an explorer or a v.. im not a fan of gibsons anyways

  • ZAKK WYLDE!!!!!!!!

  • @NegativeTelecaster You may not like Gibsons but you must admit that the les paul can easily create a metal sound. Players like Zakk Wylde and James Hetfield have already proven so.

  • LOL any guitar with high output pickups be it single coil or humbucker can do metal

  • what was that song at 1:16

  • I don't know what amp or settings he's using but damn that thing sounds like shit, like a bunch of bees in a tin can. What sucks is that ProGuitarShopDemos has review of this same pedal and it sounds a hell of a lot better in that vid. GuitarWorld seriously needs to use better equipment and learn to dial in better settings for their demos, this is getting ridiculous.

  • please Guitar World! listen to this man. he speaks the truth!

  • @xtort1220 its not the pedal or the amp, its that damn recording quality, it sounds like there's some weird ass reverb or doubling going on in EVERY video. I have no idea what it is, but it definitely gets in the way of hearing the actual tone of whats being played

  • @xtort1220 They might wanna start by hiring someone else. This dude's barely good enough to call a weekend barband warrior. Let's see, you're a magazine who frequently have major name amazing guitarists in your home office...what could they possibly do?

  • @xtort1220 or using mic on the cabinet or amp. Because this is camera audio...

  • @xtort1220 The PGS one sounds like ass too, i don't know what you're talking about.

  • Man... pls change your hairstile... you look like a dumbasss... just saying

  • is this Epiphone les paul custom?

  • Fuckin sounds so noisy. Guys all you need is a good tube amp and a boost pedal. Cant you hear the gross sounding harsh overtones? why bother.

  • i know peice of shit

  • Uh. . . wow that sounds the same as the behinger 911 tube overdrive

  • wow that opening riff sounds exactly like a dod grunge pedal.

  • this guy is really small, that les paul looks huge next to him.

  • just imagine him playing bucketheads les paul hahah

  • @wasup23tube

    that would sound horrible...

  • how come nobody reviews this thing with a guitar equipped with EMGs?

  • because dimarzio's are 1,000 times better. The only people who like emg's are the owners in the shitty hole in the wall music stores. real players like dimarzios and seymore duncan

  • I do agree with you that they are better, but everyone uses EMGs for metal, so I would just think somebody would use them to review this pedal. I will restate my question. Why doesn't anyone use Seymour Duncan blackouts to review this thing?

  • @Haydeosmith in this case (i didnt read the whole conversation just your comment) the pickups aren't the issue, if this pedal has it, the Mid needs to be turned up on this amp. and the treble down a little then it might sound better.

  • @wasup23tube

damn straight, active pickups are shite. I'm gonna try out bareknuckle and motor city as well.

  • Thats just stupid..

EMG's have many properties that actually makes them superior over passives.

They have less powerful magnets, and instead uses a preamp to boost the pickups signal to that of a normal one.. this decreases stringpull, which means increased sustain and dynamics.

BUT due to the fact that the magnet is less powerful, it also gets a somewhat colder frequency response.. so yeah, passives for "normal" stuff, actives for higain stuff.

  • @notuern and that makes it much too complicated

  • thats so shit wat he had it set to the distortion on that was lame man i wanna hear this guy doing some break downs and heavier riffs with way more distortion

  • youre a fucking retard

  • wow, what did MXR do to deserve that trebly review?

  • that's terrible...

  • LOL on this video the comments say this pedal sucks, on other demo's the comments say this pedal is awesome

  • Well, it does suck.

All these "metal" stompboxes do.. and this is coming from me who have played in several Thrash-metal bands.

    Pedal distortion never sounds good.

  • I knew it sucked from day one, it sounds thin and fizzy. But not all metal stompboxes do, the common mistake they make having no mids in the pedals. How can you sculpt your scoop mid sounds when there are no mids to begin with? The Tone King video with Metal pedal shootouts is good, surprisingly the Boss MetalCore sounded the best

  • that thing sounds shitty. I'm disappointed that they chose to review this.

  • if they didn't review it, you wouldn't know it's sitty!

  • paul was tryin' real hard to be dimebag in this video. this is the first mxr pedal i don't love. in fact, it sounds like shit. go digitech hardwire metal, or the mxr dime distortion. both sound better than this shit.

  • Epiphone Les Pauls are crappy.......

  • @LyndonKJohnson Most of them are pretty good, if you switch the pickups. Some Les Paul Standards are about the same quality as lower-end Gibsons.

  • Kinda sounds like early Death

  • ... Fullbore shit

  • the eq is horrible. absolutely no bass

  • whats bass!?!

  • @AmonTRodgers epic faillllll

  • Turn the volume down a notch skid row

  • HOLY SHIT THAT"S TERRIBLE!

  • sounds perfect for playing old school mettalica

  • That was painful..............

  • @piemanzeppelin Digitech Hardwire TL-2. Although I've heard this pedal in other demos and it sounded better. Probably just the mic-ing

  • Comment removed

  • God this sounds bad!

  • Wow that sounded like ass... Thin and fuzzy just horrible

  • Bad mic-ing?

  • someone name a better distortion, please, because this beats all the tones ive heard from a stompbox

  • @piemanzeppelin Dirty Bomb, Home Brew Elec, Tube King soooo many more.

  • @piemanzeppelin Also T-Rex Bloody Mary, Keeley Modded, Noxious, Twin Tube Mayhem, ProCo Rat - tell me when to stop. Just because someone told you Line6 and Boss are the best - doesn't mean they are...

  • Boss ML-2 Metalcore

  • It has that thrash sounds that I like so much.

  • that end rift is fucking brutal but would sound way bettr on a digtech death metal pedal

  • hahaha MXR FullDEFECTBORED i call this... c'mon seriously who would buy this thing

it doesn't even sound half as good as it should

  • has like an old metallica tone, still too scratchy though

  • @AraGuitar

    thats i completely right

the old metallica tone is awesome

  • every demo i've heard of this makes it sound like it's only good for thrash, anybody had any actual experience with this pedal/own it

  • hurts ears

  • sounds terrible

  • Way to much treble on there, not enough bass. However, it does sound good, just need to change the amp settings a tiny bit.

  • i agree u dude i heard worst =p

  • THe most unnatural sounding pedal ive ever heard.

  • probably cause of eq settings dummy

  • well how about you tell that to them, 'dummy'...

  • Little harsh on the high end...

  • the first riff sounds like a very bad version of creeping death, but i want that pedal

  • Still think the metal muff is the best distortion pedal for the price. this is nice though. lacking a bit of warmth, but sounds good for the new hardcore and grindcore stuff.

  • he def worked those riffs off Creeping Death and Painkiller

  • HAHAHAHA, Paul is giving the middle finger in 1:30-1:35 :D :D :D

  • 00:30 sounds sweet

  • MXRs own take on a Box of Bees!! it sounds like such a let down considering the other pedals are so amazing

  • thought he was playing "creeping death" for a second

  • My thoughts exactly!

  • Paul, you are a great player, but really, you can't polish this crap.

  • Hmmm..I would like get it better if it had more of a "Thick" sound to it

  • My amp distortion is way better than that..

  • My opinion...sounds way deep...just awesome> the sound is soooo alive

  • 0:18 oh those totaly unnecessary left hand movements :(

  • Just like your birth

  • haha, i often do the same sort of thing :P

  • very 1989 - metallica sounding.

  • Yeah I definitely hear it.

  • is it just me or does this sound very thin and buzz-saw like??

  • Nope, you're right.

  • haha paul is the fuckin man, tears shit up daily

  • whats up with vids man?

  • sounds really crisp but i can't imagine someone wanting that kind of sound for anything

  • I've yet to here a good sounding demo of this.

  • @ChucklesMginty listen to ProGuitarShop's demo of it. its great. i really want this pedal.

  • Checked it out, I still think it sounds awful.

    Way too much high-end.

    But each to their own.

  • in this i agree, but not in PGS demo.

  • It's a fun little pedal. It's not going to replace my EVHIII, but at home through my little set up it works fine. It replaced my Metal Zone. I don't know why Paul isn't getting a better tone. I can get a heavier tone.... even in E. the noise gate is way cool too.

  • I thought he was gonna play "creeping death" there for a second =/

  • that sounds like a digital piece of trash.

  • in this video, yes. but I tried it on my own and this thing really kicks ass. but paul's tone just sucks

  • Its actually analog ( piece of trash )

  • what do you excpect the source your listening from is DIGITAL!!

Also go to a store an try it if you can, It might change you mind about it

  • yo thats was some good metal riffs right there

  • Shit =(

  • sounds great

  • wow some decent metal riffs this time.

    hahah
