  • Best version of this song. Really big in Boston in 54. TriLads had a big version here also in Boston on Bullseye records in 1959. Then of course Skip & Flip in 1960 had the only billboard top 40 hit of this song. It went to #11. I imagine that Marvin & Johnny must have been really high on the R&B charts in 54.

  • Good listening on KJOY Stockton back in the day!

  • Marvin & Johnny have the original, and BEST version of Cherry Pie. It was a huge hit in Boston in 1954.

  • Top 10, Two-sided hit, 1954 - please also post "Tick Tock" as well - many thanks - DAVEDJ

  • The flip side, TICK TOCK, was also a classic!! Check it out.

  • Marvin & Johnny's version of Cherry Pie was THE ORIGINAL, AND THE BEST!!

  • a 1954 Ford, a pretty blonde named Wilma, and pretty night in Fort Worth, and this song. Yep, I lost mine!

  • I think I have what I believe to be the master recording of this song. It is the same diameter as a regular 45 rpm but is made of metal. There are two holes, one small as in a 78 rpm, and another hole off to the side the same diameter. it sounds exactly like the original, so I know it could not have been recorded via speaker to mike or dubbed in some way. Does anyone have any thoughts on this.

  • this is for real, ain't no new guys who could come near this.

  • This Cherry Pie version by Marvin and Johnny is the best one!!:)

  • @TheJewishbastard not cool. there's a time and place. and this is not it.

  • Wow ! Do I have some very good memories connected to this song. Those were the good ole days in Southern California. (The early sixties)

  • @RICJOYTRAVEL where in so cal. did u live, i grew up in Venice, Ca

  • @lilescarce I lived in San Diego 1960 to 1963

  • you should hear the george carlin cover from the arsenio hall show.

  • Wow what memories......I remember dancing at my prom YEARS ago to this song! They just don't make music like this anymore. Thanks for this GREAT POST,,,,,,what heart and soul!!!!!

  • Now THIS is the original and best version of this classic!!!! REAL heart and soul in this version!! As the old saying goes:

"Always demand the REAL thing, accept no substitutes!"

    :)

  • I just love that song.

  • i liked how george carlin sung this song better

but its still a good song

  • never had any idea that George Carlin was so into the various musical groups of the early 50's. Loved the way George sang cherry pie on A. Halls show back in 1989. Very talented!!!!

  • i think he almost sang it better. i was very impressed

  • Love this song! I sang it in a talent show when I was in high school. Kind of "naughty," though not blantantly so. At that time, I had heard only this version, and not the Skip and Flip.

  • Just watched George Carlin's ad lib rendition on the Arsenio Hall show. Carlin was unbelievably good. Who knew? What a great tribute to Marvin and Johnny by Carlin!

  • I love them!

  • There is one word that describes the difference between Skip & Flip's version and Marvin and Johnny's version. That word is; SOUL

  • So I'm guessing you think that the soul makes it better?

  • Good guess. You're brilliant!

    (snerk)

  • i think Carlin's is the best version!

  • Yep on the Arsenio Hall show back in 1989. Absolutely fantastic version!

  • skip and flip sounds like a sudio production...Marvin and Johhny sounds like real singing

  • Reminds me of a cousin of mine and his low rider bomba back in L.A. it had big white walls, suicide doors, and the nicest color of green metal flakes I've ever seen!!!R.I.P. to my primo "Blinky".
