I can't believe how slow the F430's paddle gear change is. I thought the whole point of paddle shifters was to improve shift times. I shift faster in a manual.
@DDRGURU56 Yes, it is pretty slow, but remember this car is from 2004. Anyway, I loved those gear changes. Every time it was like being kicked in the back by a horse :D
@motorhead778 Based on what I can hear in the video. I can definitely shift faster than that. This is a slightly older car so it makes sense that it is a little slower than modern ferraris. I know the newer ferraris are wicked fast with their gear changes. This one just seems a tad slow.
@motorhead778 Also have you looked up the vid "shifting, smooth is fast"? Look that up if you haven't. The guy in that vid proves my point. He is quicker at shifting than this car.
@DDRGURU56 I have told you the statistics of manual shift changes vs this particular paddle shift change....how is that hard for you to understand?
The stats are there, you cannot change that lol, it doesn't matter when this ferrari came out, at the end of the day it changes in 150milliseconds, no human could ever change faster than that!
The new 458 has dual clutch and changes even quicker at around 100milliseconds.
Instead of basing it on what you think you hear, base it on facts and figures.
@motorhead778 Maybe I should clarify. The actual GEAR chnge is faster. But the entire shft process on this car is slowr than what is possible in a manual.Notice the hesitation b4 the car gets back 2 accelerating aftr he clicks the paddle. This is not the case when proprly driving a manual. This would basicly b the same as slipping the clutch. It wastes time. Also I luv how u speak as though u know how fast a human is capable of shfting gears. So youve done tests on evry person 2 make that deduction?
@DDRGURU56 Lol how old are you...? If you actauly are in the market to buy a ferrari and compare the manual and paddle shift models to each other the paddle shift is faster, do you know why? It's because the paddle shift can change gear quicker than a human can. Ask any knowing car enthusiast and they will tell you a paddle shift can shift much quicker than a manual...try doing some research on the internet.
Yes there is the odd person who can shift very fast, but still not as fast as a paddle.

@DDRGURU56 You can shift faster than the F430's paddle shift? so you're telling me you can shift in under 150 milliseconds....LOL!
It isn't possible for a human to shift faster than a paddle shift i'm afraid, which is why so many of the super cars use them instead of manual.
It takes around 500 milliseconds to change in a manual (if you are extremely quick) which doesn't seem quite as fast as 150.
