I need help. every time i try to run a scenario it crashes and sais "3D war engine -or something to that effect- has stopped responding.

Also everytime i play as the confederates no matter who i pick it makes me play as the 9th virginia. i tried installing 2.87 patch but now its saying "cant find TC2M disk"

Just found this video again, I like how everyone here bashes it when it's the game's mechanics, not glitches. The main problem people have with this game is that they don't realize that frontage matters, and you can't have units all in each others' grills. To make it so your units don't move everywhere either take command of them or better, the brigade commander as he is the lowest ranking person who can give orders apart from yourselves. It's a good game guys, it just takes getting used to.

I remember when I bought this game. It was fun for the first few battles, but when I started commanding the entire army (instead of a division or brigade), a lot of the games glitches became apparent. Still, have to give them credit for trying.

This game is far more realistic than games like ETW. The strategy is far more realistic too. Battles take a long time to play out and knowing when to move and concentrate your forces is very important.

Being a hard-core military history buff, it was literally painful watching how bad this game is. I'm praying the Total War devs will make a Total War: American Civil War after they are done with Total War: Shogun 2.

Thank you for playing this game. Now I'll save up for some other title, maybe the Men of War: Vietnam I heard is coming out at the end of the year.

The graphics cannot be compared to the Total War franchise, but in terms of gameplay, this game is better. More options, and you need to be a better tactician in 2nd Manassas than in the Total War games.

I love TC2M and the only problems I have ever had is once in every 50 games (literally) my supply wagons will randomly just start moving. My first game was among my best, routing my enemy in less then ten minutes. I almost never have any problems. Downloading the patches do help though, for it seems that newer computers don't take kindly to older games in my experiance.

@ Prince of Mac: Yes I completely agree that the AI taking control of your units after you have given them an order is simply annoying. I have the demo and am trying to learn the game but even with the tutorials I can't seem to grasp it and I can't seem to keep my units doing what I want them to. I'm sure it just has a steep learning curve, once I've learned the demo I do plan on buying the game.

If you want a great Civil War game and you don't worry about the graphics buy Civil War Generals 2.

On the UI theres a button icon showing a fist (bottom right) if you click that then they will do EXACTLY as they are told because you are "taking command".

Anyway tis a good fun game. Developed by an independent and uses sprites, pick it up cheap for a bargain.

you have to realize that fighting in the forest is complicated because sometimes the Units cannot see a particular regiment. That's why I often avoid fighting in the woods. If there's enemies in the woods i'll try to lead them out, And i only use woods to screene my movement for a flanking action

Sad part about playing a large battle is you're the general you give brigade commanders orders sadly, so they would act on their own, Tutorial would tell you how to detach units so you don't have the AI taking control of them when you're not looking. hehe

and the reason your having so much trouble with your units is because you are commanding a division, which means you really aren't supposed to be controlling your individual regiments, but should be telling your brigade commanders where to position their regiments, and the AI will take it from there, if you want as many ppl have already stated you can press the "take command" button and your troops will follow your orders to the letter

PrinceofMacedon, the button in the lower right hand corner of the toolbar is the "Take Command Button" it gives you complete control over the unit.

@PrinceofMacedon Imperial Glory is a European turn based game. It's like Empire: Total War but Empire is much better. IG is heaps heaps smaller, older and simpler. Was still fun when i first got it though

yeah....we just went over it in World History....and he said in world war one, they had machineguns and they didnt know how to use them, so the used them in trenches, thus started the famous Trench Warfare which turned into Foxholes

He is not getting the full game because he is not looking for mods. Also if you highlight the brigade command take command button you will have full command of the brigade and you can move them how ever you want . And stop complaining about it that seems to be all your doing.

You forgot to detach your forces. if you want 100% command over your soldiers he had to detach his officers from their division commander otherwise AI likes to take control of brigade officers and they will take control of the regiments. lol

The graphics blow, but the gameplay is very nice. If you have a Big Lots nearby, checkout their computer section. I saw this game for $6 there today.

I finally found this game at Gamestop. But it was the only copy that I saw in my entire city. I blame that due to the game being so old, and probably unpopular. But if you're a Civil War buff, you should definitely own this game.

bottom right corner..I use it to help get my troops in to position then take it off..sometimes you want to let the AI take over especially in large battles.

Well, I'm honestly trying to rebuild my PC-games collection because I lost all of my old ones 2 years ago.

But I have some more obscure games (which I won't record): ParaWorld (an RTS involving ninjas, vikings, pirates and dinosaurs), Knights of the Temple II (which has the worst controls ever), Combat Mission (a turn-based strategy game set in WWII).

But my new trend is to pick up games I like (as I see them).
