  • are those 17" hummer wheels?

  • @asbres11 yes. common and cheap way to get bigger + wider tires on a duramax. not so safe or good to run 315s or 325's on the stock 16" wheel, the 17" hummer wheel is alot wider.

  • i have the same dmax how do you turn the high idle on cuz when i go to settins and turn it on it doesent idle anyhigher than normal.

  • That is a really nice truck. Maybe one day ill be lucky enough to own one.

  • @mattluvsvox921

See my response to russianboy below-

  • On some Duramax trucks if you plug the block heater in when it isn't that cold out you will get a code alarm.

  • my 96 gasser does that in the winter to idk why i cant figure it out

  • @nate447 all vehicles with an ECU do this, it's just to try and get the engine to warm up faster. My '98 Chevy with the 350 does it too, every car i've ever had does it

  • @willDANCEforPENNIES

On modern diesels, this is a selectable mode through the dash controls. Allows you to warm the truck faster and keep it warm in very cold temps, not just at startup. It will kick into high-idle any time the truck sits for more than a minute, even when its at operating temp. Allows you to keep it warm and clean burned at -40.

  • You should have started it on a cold day. Just below freezing isn't cold, -35 is cold, that would be more impressive.

  • nice truck.

  • when it is very cold out my 2500hd will do the same thing and say "ice". i havent really looked it up but does it do that through satellite or something?

  • There is a temp sensor up front in the grill that measures the ambient temperature (for the readout on your mirror). On trucks with the Duramax, it will use this measurement to turn on a "high-idle" mode (at around 32*) that keeps idle RPM above 1,100 or so. Diesels don't warm up very fast when its cold out and they can wet stack if its extremely cold. The wet stack usually happens on older mechanical pump diesels but the high-idle speed helps both of these issues.

  • @jawaring what is wet stacking? im new to diesels and trying to learn as much as i can

  • @russianboy556

When unburned fuel gets pushed through the exhaust valves, usually happens at low RPM in cold weather. Not all that common on modern diesels but happens all the time on old equipment. The result of unburned fuel makes the exhuast pipe or stack look "wet" or oily. Hence the term "wet stacking"

  • @smc13s I asked my dealer and he said that it will show up once it's under 34F or so.

  • are those rims off a hummer? They look nice on your rig

  • Yes they are H2 rims, thanks for the compliment!

  • im thinking about doing something similar to mine. i have an 06 ex. cab. about how much were those wheels? tire/wheel size?

  • found the wheels on craigslist- $200. The tires are Hankook MTs- 285/70/17's. All four tires mounted and balanced were about $650.

  • my truck idles at 1000 rpm all the time.

  • In the summer??

  • thats a 2006 chevy truck 2007 look like the models we have now

  • No sir, incorrect. GM made this body style for half of the 2007 model year (roughly January-April). They called it the "classic" body style. 2007's from about May on are the new body style. This was one of only a handful left in the midwest when I bought it in May of 07.

  • True! I have the Classic body style also. From 2007

  • look at that tack. 5000 rpm its all about TQ. low rpm

  • Yeah, I can start my pedal bike up in -40 weather!!!! WITHOUT WIND CHILL!!!!! >:D

  • i start mine in -40 or lower...... but it's already warm thanks to my webasto

  • shes a nice rig

  • BADASS truck bro

  • God Bless American 4x4s

  • damn thats a nice truck. starts good too!

  • its a ute

  • Nissan Titan? Hell, no.

  • nice

  • Damn, that's a nice truck.

  • very nice truck

  • Why is the redline at 5,000RPM? It seems a bit excessive for a diesel.

  • It won't rev that high under acceleration. Usually only hits about 3,500 RPM. It will rev higher under deccel w/ tow/haul mode on going down steep grades but I've never had it beyond 4,000

  • K, thanks.

  • i got mines above 3500 to about 3800 and the truck went into limp mode the other day. any idea why?

  • Did this happen while you were driving? Maybe slipped the trans if you have a power adder on there without trans upgrades. Could also be a plugged fuel filter, if the computer detects low fuel rail pressure, it will limit your RPM and feel like a limp. Are you getting a check engine light? If so, tell me what codes its pulling-

  • i recently cut off the cat off my truck for better mpg and got a 3 mpg increase. went from 12 to 15 and i think it could be the fuel filter .. havent changed it for about 8k miles im going to replace it soon. and the engine light did come on. i heard auto zone can get the codes for you so im going to get the codes and let u know what they are.

  • Usually you change the fuel filter every 30k miles not 8k. Have you been using a lot of biodiesel or poor quality fuel? Sometimes that could clog your filter prematurely.

  • Very nice ride the kind I would love to have but would cost far to much to run in the UK

  • very very nice truck

  • nice truck

  • hell yeah man, an 07 with the classic body style...thats an awesome looking truck man....do you have any performance work doen to it?

  • Thanks- ya the truck has an EGR block, PCV re-route, Predator flash tuner and now has an MBRP turbo-back exhaust on it. I have a few other videos of the exhaust posted, check 'em out.

  • thats the same as the 2003,2004,2005,2006 model

  • yeah but the allison 1000 just makes it so much better lol

  • do the duramax diesles have wait to start icons in the gauge cluster?

  • yes they do

  • how does the high idle come on?

  • Comes on automatically when you have the high idle feature turned on and the ambient temp is below 30. For trucks that came from the factory with high-idle mode (I believe its 05-current Duramaxs), you can turn it on or off using the steering wheel controls and the DIC menu between the tach and speedo. It's one of the main function options. If your truck didnt come with it as a factory option, youd need an aftermarket unit to control idle speed.

  • How do you get he high idle to work?

  • see above

  • Alright thanks

  • That is a nice pickup!

  • Do the Duramax engines have glow plugs for pre-heat during cold starts?

  • pretty sure they do

  • They do

  • what kind of tires do you have on your truck?

  • Tires on this video are Hankook MT's (RT03). 285/70R17's. Good value in a mud tire.

  • k didnt know

  • your ogygen sensors and stuff controls fuel doesnt run right until warmed up so it about same either way

  • Diesels don't have O2 sensors.

  • what kind of gas mileage do you get with that truck?

  • 16 in town and 18+ on the highway. The truck now has a 4" MBRP exhaust and Predator running the tow tune.

  • so would something like that be affordable with todays gas prices?

  • Affordable is a relative term. What's affordable to some isn't to others. There are people who spend $50,000 per fill-up on their yachts. It's affordable for them but not for most people. I only burn about 1,000 gallons a year in my truck so you do the math. If you can stomach $4-5k a year in fuel cost, go for it!

  • that sounds pretty good if i get a truck ill go for a duramax thanks for the help bro

  • yeah well with diesel prices now... its a pain in the ass i have a 95 6.5L turbo diesel suburban and it coast about 200 to fill it up at 5$ a gallon but i dont care it it was 10$ a gallon i love my diesels.

  • yeah i have my cummins truck now what some people dont seem to get is diesels get better gas millage even tho the gas is more expensive it all evens out in the long run

  • thats not very cold. try -35*F, without the wind chill. I live in wisconsin and i also have an 07 LBZ. It starts every morning and without any trouble. high idle stays on til everything is nice and toasty.

  • What trans fluid you runnin? At those temps, a TES-295 would almost be mandatory. Transynd or equivalent. Stock fluid won't flow well that cold and you could grenade your torque converter with high-idle on. The boys up in Canada see that alot.

  • That is good to know. I just have stock fluid in it. I have had some problems with it this winter shifting hard and losing power. it would not go above 1600 rpm's. and then it would throw a fuel pressure code. i had plenty of power services anti gel additive in it. any info?

  • At temps that low, even Power Service might not be enough for fuel gelling. Lot of guys up north run Stanadyne, I've heard it performs better in extreme circumstances. Worst case you could add some kerosene. Talk to some local diesel people and see what they do. Keep that fuel filter fresh as well or add some auxilary filtration (pre-OEM).

  • there is no better sound than an i high idleing duramax in the morning ;-)

  • nice rig

  • er...dude that runs high for a lil long dontcha think?

  • it has high idle mode on.

  • I'll shoot this again. Got a new exhaust that will sound better when its cold with the high idle.

  • cool

  • Holy ball your high idle runs long. it has to be around 10dgree for mind to run like that. but im running AMS 5-W30 diesel oil in my beast.
