I think just about everyone in the world of strength sports is deceived. Weider still dominates bb training and exercise physiology is dominated by "Doctor Kramer" and his disciples. People are religiously committed to following HVT nonsense, just like people who think the Earth is 5000 years old. If you honestly search for the most efficient and effective routine, you will come up with something like HIT. IMHO rest-pause is the best system, but it is too hard for most trainees.
HIT works if its done correctly. However most people are willing to train that hard, that short or that infrequent or all of the above. i train each bodypart once a month doing ALL movements unilateraley so as to push each muscle to abslolute failure with negatives..each workout i am up 6-7 reps. natural and not at all genetically gifted
Arthur Jones said that some people cannot go to failure(or was it Ellington Darden?) These are the people who must logically support HVT. I pity you. I train every 3 days and am regularly getting results. Refute HIT if you will, but just because you cannot do it does not mean it doesn't work.
HIT arguably works as well as conventional training BUT...if HIT is done as it's supposed to be, which makes a training partner essential to push the trainee into extreme ranges of negative failure, it's gruelling and only suited to a small portion of those who are willing to go through this. Not an appealing approach to training for most, if it's done with the intensity Jones intended and implemented.
Drew, and for all other that believe HIT is so great, how strong are you? And then you people have the nerve to talk about genetics and always pointing fingers of steriod use just beacsue people are way stronger than you. Mentzer was a fantastc bodybuilder but not very strong to say the least, arthur jones another large individual in his prime but again not very strong. And JayIsreal, shut-up!, you and Baye are two fruit cakes that have little to no idea what its like to lift some heavy iron.
You don't have a clue about HIT. No less an authority than Bill Pearl has said on record that Ray Mentzer was the strongest bodybuilder he ever saw. Mike Mentzer was very strong, Casey Viator was phenomenally strong. Jones was extremely strong himself when he trained. The HIT training almost killed Sergio Oliva in 1972 but Jones got Sergio in his best shape ever. Arnold and Franco went to Deland to be trained by Jones in 1971. Arnold couldn't hack it while Franco thrived doing HIT.
Chewybagels, you don't know much about Arthur Jones. If you'd ever seen any photos of him during periods of time when he was training regularly you'd have known that he has been very well built.
Tavington1 its you that talks rubbish, yea Ive tried both HIT and high volume, ACTUALLY THEY BOTH WORK, if you truely new what you were talking about you would know that. I prefer duel factor routines they are the most superior.
drewBay its you that talks rubbish, yea Ive tried both HIT and high volume, ACTUALLY THEY BOTH WORK, if you truely new what you were talking about you would know that. I prefer duel factor routines they are the most superior.
If they both work why spend more time performing higher volume routines for the same degree of results? Research shows no significant benefit to performing a higher number of sets or to training more than 3 times per week (unless you're on steroids).
I'm surprised there's so much controversy over HIT still, considering all the research supporting it, and the fact that the current American College of Sports Medicine and American Council on Exercise recommendations for resistance training are very similar to the Nautilus training principles, with the exception of recommending 1 to 3 sets instead of just 1.
It's a small world after all Drew. The same controversies repetitively. I would like to point out that indeed much of Arthur Jones research is and continues to be validated even today.I however do not agree with his notion of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness completely vanishing after 3-4 consecutive weeks of training.
Arthur Jones training principles are light years ahead of the nonsense published by Weider's magazines. Everybody with an interest in strength training or bodybuilding should read Jones's Nautilus Bulletins 1 and 2.
It's not an easy way out. If done properly, it is much harder than the higher volume approaches promoted by the muscle mags. It doesn't negate or contradict any theories taught in higher education regarding exercise physiology or fitness either. In fact, HIT principles are in line with the majority of exercise research.
OH yeah? Who is better, the guy who trains properly and does 50 reps of 100 pound deadlifts (50 x 75 = 3750) or the lazy moron who does 10 reps of 400 lbs of same exercise (10 x 400 = 4000) ???
Scientifically where is it stated that the "BODY NEEDs 10-20 sets per body part per workout in order to GET productive results!" Probably you need to go back to school.
I have used HIT techniques and I must say that I have reduced my time in the gym and now also my cardio is balls to the wall and I feel and look great

Mike Mentzer was lifting the whole stack on most of the nautilus machines at one point, lifting it slowly and controlled. That is awesome strength.

Mentzer not very strong? According to many who knew him he was very strong.

I am sick and tired hearing about HIT training. Full stop. Why do so many
disillusioned people advocate HIT? It is an easy way out. They somehow
believe that by doing _less_ work, they will achieve greater muscle gains.
This absurd proposition completely negates all of the theories taught in
higher education regarding physiology and fitness.
