After all these years listening to music I never thought i would hear something like this again. Sean has been a true inspiration to me in searching for music that matters.
Thank you to the uploader of this video who has been fabulous.
I know of no other human that has had his gift.......... living or past....His music is Divine .........Sent on high to his mind and then his fingers by the Supreme power.
If anyone can bring to the light of day a talent to equal that of Shawn Lane then please do so .
That.s what I thought ............................I can't see it happening
For those curious about the tritone, it is simply an interval of three whole tones. For example if I have a root of E, the first wholetone from the root is F#, the second is G# and the tritone (third wholetone from the root) is A#. It is also known as a diminished 5th or Augmented 4th; depending on how you look at it. But technically, Tritone = Augmented 4th. I am only giving an educated guess here, but I would assume Tritone tuning is B F B F B F where the Low E is tuned down to the B. Sorry i
ok it's rationalized as 35/4 with 40 double dotted eight notes per measure(which you divide up into 5 groups of 8 notes as far as double dotted eights go).
the gut guitar is tuned in tritones rather than 4ths.
Wow even the great Shawn Lane makes the odd mistake 2:09 - 2:13! Still a superhuman though. Anyone else seen how difficult that passage is? Awesome song. The man was an absolute genius
i think its sad how people like shawn lane are taken away from us when gangsters/ bogans are free to roam the street and do nothing but corrup society... take them nextime we dont need them one bit
holy shit he's fast!!(now just because you cant play that fast that doesnt mean that you have to reply to my comment saying that being able to shred is nonimportant, because it is infact "very" important)
The really sad thing about Shawn Lane isn't that he was the most profecient guitarist, it isn't that he had the most incredible melodies, it isn't that he was just as good on the piano. The sad thing is that he stopped pracicing at age 16. I'm almost 16.
@ialmostbowlverywell Haha, well he stopped because he thought his technique was good enough for the music in his head, and I think that's what matters (although it's still boggling how he achieved this...). He never played for technique's sake. Lots of younger people today can easily surpass Shawn, and I'm sure they just haven't been found yet. But in terms of satisfaction, this man got the most out his playing (regardless of technique) than anyone I've ever seen or heard so far.
@Kingding6 Well there's a large difference in "can surpass" and "will surpass" ;) lol. Some Math wiz at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology could be the next closest thing we might experience had he/she picked up music lessons. The only that is certain is that people will keep getting better and better so i don't see any reason why Shawn, monstrous as he is, will be the final ceiling for the guitar. :) Shawn could have taken up poetry and might have been the next Shakespeare, but he didn't.
@Kingding6 Haha that's what being a savant can give you :P. But I'd wager one to two decade's time will get us another freakish player. Anton Oparin holds "some" promise but I'm not counting on him just yet. That kid has the blueprint for being great, I just hope he sticks with it.
@RSwordIAAA I meant in terms of composistion. Obviously the techniwue and skill are there, but time will tell if his mind is as beautiful as Shawns was.
after watching this i feel like i just watched a movie. he just like, lets his soul go flying. i feel like i experienced a lifetime of music. its like listening to colors that you can't imagine, and afterwards i just sit here for a moment, totally stunned every time, and when i look around everything looks so silent, and so hollow. this music feels deep, rich, and full. just close your eyes and focus all your energy on absorbing this music, its the most amazing feeling in the world
Shawn Lane's music can not be described to a satisfying extent with words, it is something that only can be experienced.. And it's one very good experience!
@jazzcat99 Yeah, awesome solo here. Shawn used this exact recording of Tri 7/5 for the "Powers of Ten : Live" cd.... only for that he edited about 1 minute out of this solo, plus he added Sax to it later (because Todd Bobo wasn't at this gig).
yeah, good point. it's interesting, just what i would expect from shawn. there was a fluffeetalks video asking if you could bring back any celebrity who would it be. i said shawn lane. he didn't deserve to die. R.I.P. shawn lane.
i hold a special place in my heart for the Powers of Ten Live album. one of the most emotional performances i've ever heard, shawn, sean and todd are masters and are untouchably tasteful
Yeah, i listen to this track nearly every day when i take Mr. Chucky out for a walk, on my phone, from the PoT: Live cd (Shawn used this Live version of the song for that cd, but he added sax to it at a later dater, because Todd Bobo wasn't actually at this gig to play sax on the day).
I didn't know that. :D I love sax part. Especially when sax part comes back again after Shawn's guitar solo hafl way through the track. Say hello to Mr Chucky for me will ya? ;-)
I think the magic of the tune owes a great deal to Mr. Rickman's brilliant drumming : hats off to you maestro ! This piece is the perfect example of Shawn Lane's talent as a composer, and the way he made sound smooth and natural the more complex and difficult music. The more I hear, the more I admire !
This brings me painful memories. I was very young at the time and both Shawn and I were going through a lot. In a way, it haunts me. But I'm glad to know the interest is still here! -sean rickman
@theRick70 I can't think of any music that interests me more. I was just comparing the performance of "Get You Back" at New Daisy to the one where Shawn played the drums himself, and I must say, your drumming added a lot to the tune; Shawn was the world champ on guitar, but your drumming was light years beyond his. Thanks for the great music, and for coming here and mixing with us dewy eyed fans. Sorry this is painful for you; I hope that changes with time.
@trevskiw2008 I'm not sure why it says "7/5" in the title. There is no such thing as a "5th note". There is 7/4 and 7/8, but no such meter as 7/5. There are thousands of people who write in 5 though; it doesn't rank as one of Lane's more difficult achievements.
i was gonna ask you if you've had time to edit this one if needed a few weeks ago, but i didnt want to rush you, and today i was about to give a firm scolding for it not being here yet, thank you very much!
