  • The very fact that creationists are brazen, shameless liars is evidence enough that their God is a fiction. Why would a genuine God need to have liars, and only liars, make a case for Him?

  • "...the human mouth is homologous to a squid's anus..."

That's true if the human is Kent Hovind.

  • The creationist who asked the second question was Jonathan McLatchie..

  • is it just me or do you guys also think that atheists are physically ugly (ie unattractive).

  • @glower125 They're actually quite sexy. PZ Myers' beard turns me on.

  • My penis is very hard.

  • Thanks for posting this video

  • The guy gives him a valid scientific criticism and the bearded fellow simply goes off into a rage of swearing and name calling. I don't understand it!

  • @telesniper2 Except it wasn't valid to anyone who knows what he was saying.

  • @lormendi Then just explain that, rather than going off. When a student says something that's incorrect in one of my lectures, I just correct and explain why its wrong.

  • @telesniper2 This wasn't a paying student at a class lecture. It was a troll who showed up at a presentation and got shut down.

  • @lormendi Regardless, my point still stands.

  • @telesniper2 Only in your mind.

  • @lormendi And in yours, sinking to a crass level behavior is the equivalent to intellectual excellence. Have a GREAT day.

  • @telesniper2 Haha, did Myers fuck your girlfriend in college or something? Youre such a bitter little man.

  • there are no scientific papers that support creationism in any way. Any papers that have been written by so-called "creation scientists" have not passed peer review, and these "scientists" don't even have an accredited degree in most cases. Most bible colleges are not accredited. Not all of them, I grant you, but the ones who teach creation literally are not accredited nor does anyone of any scientific standing take them seriously.

  • I'm an atheist, a skeptic and a fan of PZ Myers, but the twat in the pirate hat just makes me cringe with his trite smugness.

  • @edwdixon5 I agree. Im also an atheist. The Flying Spaghetti Monster thing was funny the first few times I heard it, but now it's just retarded. It really isn't that clever.

  • Got a taste of what it would be like to show up for one of PZ's classes without the assignment completed or to try to finagle a test question. Easier to study than to face his ire and ridicule.

  • "You *should be* ashamed..."

Too true PZ - but we all know creationists are shameless.

  • 4:14 - DIGGIN' FOR GOLD THAR ???

  • Hello peeps thanks for all your comments.. Its what I expect from your cult of dogmatic belief..namely atheism. I wonder whether you chaps even can think for yourselves. Its not as if your even in the minority these days, you like to think of yourselves as free thinkers who go against the grain a little, but you're not even that sheeple. Your beliefs come from lack of thought. To the chap about Mohammad and the pig I feel sorry for you, ignorance doesnt make me mad it makes me sad.

  • @honesty98

"Cult of dogmatic belief ... wonder whether you [atheists] even can think for yourselves ... sheeple. Your beliefs come from lack of thought."

    Project much?

    Impotent troll is impotent.

  • @honesty98 "Its not as if your even in the minority these days"

Really? That's awesome! Oh wait - I just recalled that I don't engage in wishful thinking

  • Me not being born in Scotland is positive proof there is no god. They have kick ass accents. I just have a normal Los Angeles accent.

  • He's got a dozens of papers... Maybe he should have read them, he might have learned something. Oh wait...Creationist...Right...

  • I think subs would make it easier to understand some of the speech here. Some people, especially the moron in the beginning were almost impossible to understand for non-native-english speaker.

  • fucking love pz myers

  • 21:40 - 22:00

    omfg :D

  • By about 40 minutes it, every seems pretty buzzed up. :)

  • PZ's a complete dick, but I love him anyway. :)

  • wait... you are a guy :D

  • I couldn't understand what that guy was saying he had such a strong accent. The creationist.

  • @mocrg C0nc0rdance actually put up a video to emphasize the... erm.. how to say this nicely... lack of intelligence in this particular question. He actually put up subs to help others out, I think in response to your comment here

    watch?v=omKP_AkdhsQ

  • Hearing all these people clap for good science really pushes my emotional buttons. I wanna know how PZ doesn't just sit down and cry for a minute every time.

  • Not only do I love this group of people, but this talk is happening IN A BAR. EVERYONE IS DRINKING APPROPRIATE AMOUNST. This can't be reality. I call blue screen.

  • "Mister Pee Zed Myers" Love it!

  • Cthulhu bows before PZ.

  • the scottish are fun. horrible accent but great drinking..**

  • @honesty98 Perhaps the selection pressures are different within a species with as advanced a nervous system as humans? Hardly seems unthinkable, now, does it?

  • @honesty98 Your ignorance is not just showing, it's glowing.

  • @honesty98

I suspect you might have an incorrect understanding of "survival of the fittest". Humans are not distinguished in nature by their charisma and looks. The defining human characteristic that puts us apart from the rest of nature is our brain size. Brain size means we don't need to go running after gazelle, we can shoot them from about a mile away. A-women.

  • @honesty98 PZ is perfectly fitting his enviroment, the educated elite :)

you are just ignorant about the actual mechanism in evolution, its a shame. and you will not learn it in your Koran because thats an old book full of nonsense and false claims that never were supported by any evidence.

  • @honesty98 and btw, your Allah's mercy is a joke. so he decides to let fatty PZ meyers alive but somehow he has not enough mercy to let the poor somali kids alive that are starving right now at the moment?

your allah would be a huge asshole of he actually existed.

  • Comment removed

  • @honesty98 Well that was a lot of crazy mumbling.

  • interesting definitions both of "grown-up" and of "scientist"; the perfection of both is someone who meets requests for info with invective?

It's plain Myers was caught out. He goes blank for several long moments while you can almost see the brain working furiously behind the mask. He can't find an answer, so out comes the kneejerk cheap personal attack.

  • PZ rules.

  • It must have slipped Myers' mind that unlike most of his adoring listeners that night, he's supposed to be a grown-up. What sort of academic meets a question with personal insult?

  • @Cagedvole PZ is being the grown-up in the conversation. Ask a scientist an incredibly stupid question when you should know better and you'll be insulted as you deserve.

  • @Cagedvole Personally, I don't blame him. Because the question was not an honest one. It was a contrived question that was asked for no other reason than to spout creationist pseudoscience. I think after having to address that type of thing over and over, I'd lose my temper, too.

  • PZ = coward.

  • @sergiomats You = faggot.

  • @sergiomats no no no your confused... PZ= Biologist.

  • The intensity of the fear that intelligent design creationists experience when confronted with the fact of the Theory of Evolution is proportional to their lack of religious faith. The desperate fear that drives creationists to lie and distort the findings of simple human scientists shows that the "faith" in god they pretend to feel is nothing but a hollow exercise in self-delusion. Any person of actual, sincere religious faith could never be so easily shaken by mere earthly matters.

  • "pooping out babies" was an ill-chosen phrase.

  • The questioner at 3:50 is the skeptic, PZ and the crowd jeering are the sheep protecting their group-thought.

  • @moretap

What would you say to a person who asks "skeptical" questions about a round earth?

As PZ pointed out it is good to ask questions if you really want to know an answer.

That's not what this guy is doing, he has his dogmatic believes which are in the light of the evidence as silly as those of a flat-earther.

  • @Andizottel

What I would say to a person who asks "skeptical" questions about a round Earth would be the evidence for a round Earth. However that is not particularly relevant here.

Because this person is not asking a question honestly and skeptically. He is preaching one dishonestly and arrogantly. He BELIEVES by faith in his god that he is more knowledgeable. He BELIEVES by faith that "Google and print" is research. He BELIVES his question has merit.

On all counts his faith is misplaced.

  • @moretap While I'm inclined to agree about the "sheep" thing (and that's someone who accepts evolution speaking), I don't think calling the question bullshit was uncalled for.

Just try to picture it with something we all know to be true - the earth is an oblate spheroid - and then here comes a flat earther who asks stuff like "if the earth is round, why do satellite images show a circle?". How do you not tell the guy this is a still image of an oblate spheroid, and => the question is bullshit?

  • It always seems to be that if some has to resort to calling someone's question "bullshit" and telling them they should be "ashamed", that really they have no good answer. PZ should be ashamed.

  • Comment removed

  • 'Okay, well, uhm, the first answer is the question is bullshit. This isn't a real question.' A grown-up lecturer would've said that he disagreed with the premises of the questions and explained why, but PZ chooses the easy route: to ridicule the questioner and tell him to be "ashamed". Why are people clapping? In what sort of society is it considered a crime to raise questions?

  • @Riqon I agree 100%.There is nothing shameful in scientific enquiry or even being critical of a theory. I wrote a four thread critique of PZ's response on the first part of this video. I could have said much more but I didn't want to spam. "Ill read the paper if its interesting" = I will not read any scientific paper that contradict me.

  • @benthemiester He said he would read the paper. The ‘if it’s interesting’ remark was in response to the request that he post a response on his blog Pharyngula.

  • @Riqon "...is it considered a crime to raise questions?"

At first I might tell you that your question here is a strawman. Now if in the past you've had the habit of making a lot of strawmen and it has been pointed out to you ad nauseam yet you refuse to acknowledge this fact due to some dogmatic belief you have that you are incapable of making a strawman then after a while depending on what kind of person I am I would just call your question bullshit and that you should be ashamed of yourself.

  • @infinit888 Dismissing is fine. Ridiculing, mocking, abusing, and bullying the questioner is low.

  • @Riqon Sure sure come to his speaking engagements and ask questions he's already answered. Continue sowing disinformation to the public. Make it harder for Professors to educate the young. Quote mine PZ and take PZ & his colleagues papers out of context. Lie to the young and ridicule PZ for accepting the science but god forbid if he calls the creationist out on his bullshit - then of course PZ is the bully.

  • @infinit888 That IS an interesting way of retelling the story, but quite irrelevent seeing that none of it, even if true, legitimizes Myers' lack of common civil behaviour. Dismiss the guy; don't be an ass.

  • @Riqon “Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions."

    Thomas Jefferson

"lack of common civil behaviour." - What about the creationists lack of common civil behavior? Should that just be ignored?

  • @Riqon Bullshit. He called the guy out for being either an idiot or a liar, and I wish more people stood up to this religious nonsense masquerading as "scientific inquiry." Fuck those people.

  • @cbooth2004: Second. First was pretty intelligent.

  • At least this creationist has the balls to show his stupidity in public. Most simply just dismiss science. This guy at least has the wits to lie and manipulate questions for his own agenda.

  • I'm the guy who has a 22 month old girl and asked a long and rambling question @38.45. I'm very sorry. I was clearly too drunk to be allowed to be aloud.

  • @themakeshiftmonkey It`s okay =D That quite natural after all

  • @themakeshiftmonkey it was a perfectly valid question! But yeah you'd certainly downed a few beers prior hadn't you...haha

  • That guy who asked the first question may actually invalidate evolution. Not based upon his ramblings of course, but his bleeting. He may not be a crocoduck, but a humsheep. Perhaps a sheeman?

  • First questioner is an imbecile. A long-winded, intellectually dishonest, inarticulate imbecile.

He is dishonest, stupid, and smugly stupid. Ignorant and intellectually flaccid and dishonest and PROUD of it.

    And, yes, shameless.

  • I feel sorry for the creationist. I hate religion for corrupting the intelligence of human beings.

  • PZ with the beatdown!

  • Will a transcript be made available? Have problems when sound quality is not 100%.

  • @rolfaalberg I request that the transcript edits me out!

  • "pooping out a baby" ahahaha

  • @deconvertedguy We shot this on two Canon 550D dSLR cameras with Olympus OM lenses from the 70's. We're a start up company, Production Attic LTD and are available for hire. Thank you for your kind comments. Credit for the edit must all go to Stephen Paton one of the company directors.

  • This was a fantastically educational evening. Thanks for arranging it

  • LOL. I heard someone say Buckfast tastes like human piss.

  • @Mjhavok Yeah, my bad! :P

  • Really impressed how, as well as being intellectually top-notch, this video's gorgeously filmed and edited.

  • @mlpoulter I was thinking the same thing.. I wonder what camera they were using?

  • Good job posting this, been waiting to view as I couldn't attend personally. Thanks my rational thinking fellows.
