If he had a high flush draw on the flop he's going to bet especially if he was the preflop raiser. It's more about how the amateur was betting, as well as acting like he had a strong hand which is a tell of an actually weak hand. It's all about hand history as well though.

I'd played with kenny once online. I flopped a jack high straight and kenny called every bet I made and on the river he ended up with the same hand as me and then tried raisin me. It was limmit so after all the bets the hands are turned over and we split the pot. He then sat out and everytime I came to the table he would sit out and never played a hand with me since.
