It's a real shame the Avs couldn't show up enough to revive the rivalry. They absolutely owned the Wild and then Theodore decided to pack it in and call it a day. I think the NHL needs the Avs/Wings rivalry renewed. When it was at its height, hockey was booming in popularity. I just don't know if either team has the nasty personalities to refuel it anymore.

You'd have probably won alot more series' had the Avs not wasted so much time and money on Forsberg. He's so damaged, yet, you keep bringing him back...9 games at a time. I mean, I believe in giving an old guy a home (we do have Chelios), but don't actually depend on the team fossil.
when he came back, he got 14 points in those 9 games. thats 1.6 points per game. last year crosby only had 1.4 ppg. he might not be as fast as he used to be but you dont need to be fast to set up beautiful plays and you dont need to be fast to have one of the most accurate wrist shots in the league
well points per game is necessary to use because of his ridiculous line of injuries, most to do with his ankle. he missed alot of games but still has alot of points for the amount of games he has played
Yzerman played on two bad knees, and won yet another Stanley Cup in 2002...so I don't want to hear about injuries.
Also, getting 1.6 PPG over 9 games is hardly comparable to 1.4 over 53 games in a season.
Yzerman averaged 1.15ish over his entire NHL career of 1514 games. Now THAT'S impressive

For every amazing sweden there's at least 10 amazing Canadian players. Canada has way better players than any other country. We also have goalies that are on a whole different level of skill and play then any other country. The only goalie that even compares in skill to Canadian goalies would be Evgeni Nabokov and he's an amazing goal tender.

i'm in buffalo and would not put miller as a great goalie. He let's in too many long shots / anything topshelf and well oddly he's just too skinny to be a workhorse goalie if he can't get the long shots down. Before the mass rate downs... I do love my team / like miller... he's just not a goalie I would see us winning a cup with.

Obviously Sakic wasn't attempting to injure anyone. The guy is hands down the classiest player in all of sport.
It's a real shame the Avs couldn't show up enough to revive the rivalry. They absolutely owned the Wild and then Theodore decided to pack it in and call it a day. I think the NHL needs the Avs/Wings rivalry renewed. When it was at its height, hockey was booming in popularity. I just don't know if either team has the nasty personalities to refuel it anymore.

when he came back, he got 14 points in those 9 games. thats 1.6 points per game. last year crosby only had 1.4 ppg. he might not be as fast as he used to be but you dont need to be fast to set up beautiful plays and you dont need to be fast to have one of the most accurate wrist shots in the league

well points per game is necessary to use because of his ridiculous line of injuries, most to do with his ankle. he missed alot of games but still has alot of points for the amount of games he has played

Yzerman played on two bad knees, and won yet another Stanley Cup in 2002...so I don't want to hear about injuries.
Also, getting 1.6 PPG over 9 games is hardly comparable to 1.4 over 53 games in a season.
Yzerman averaged 1.15ish over his entire NHL career of 1514 games. Now THAT'S impressive
You Avs fans can reason it all you want, but until you dump guys Forsberg and Foote, you'll continue to miss the playoffs...or get spanked by the Wings.

Look, I have a lot of respect for Stevie Y, he was one of the toughest players in any sport I ever saw. But Forsberg is a tough player as well, and has been dealt such bad luck in terms of injuries in his career that it's almost unreal. Everything from a ruptured spleen in the '01 playoffs to last postseason when he TORE both of his groin muscles. Give the guy a break, he's a very tough player in his own right who has done everything he could possibly do to keep playing.

Well, it's hard to have rivals with Bettfuck looking over the league. Can't do anything without a suspension. Could you imagine what would happen if the 1997 brawl occurred 11 years later? Roy and Vernon would've been suspended, not to mention McCarty would've been handed a hefty fine.
I do agree about Sakic. In the height of the rivalry, I met him down in Florida, and as a Wings fan, I have nothing but respect for him. Classy player, one of the best in the league even at that age.

When it comes to class...Sakic is at the top of the list with Yzerman. Those two were incredible captains that lead incredible teams. Between 1996 and 2002...7 seasons...Detroit and Colorado accounted for 5 championships. What an awesome era betweeb two awesome teams.
