  • Terrible audience. What would really have helped is if this video had been shot, edited and produced by a trained team. That, and having all the beer that night turn into hemlock.

  • @negritamira @negritamira

I'm guessing you're under 30. In the grand scheme, Madonna's a scab that fell off a thousand musician's blistered feet. Icon? Like a campbell's soup can? Sure! Genious? That's funny. Madonna WAS a Pop flash in the pan. Once she dies, she's forgotten (nothing against her blessed soul). LOVE, Arthur Lee, Marvin Gaye, and a those thousand others will live on. There's pure Pop, then there's everlasting Quality. As you get older, you'll figure out the difference.

  • i think they are doing a great job its the audience that sucks

  • Madonna's a gay bloke.

  • Madonna's a gay bloke.

  • Madonna's a gay bloke.

  • this isn't a very good performance of this song....arthur sounds under the weather to say the least

  • Come on, Only so many melodies...

  • this sound reminds me of some really cool, it combines with a town of Niteroi, trip pure.

  • who is this ... ? Baby Lemonade maybe ?

  • @davidwatson Yes, this is Baby Lemonade with the addition of Johnny Echols from the original Love.

  • Welcome to the Music Business. I found it. Its mine.

  • Um.....correct me if I'm wrong, but that guy singing lead doesn't look like Arthur Lee.

  • @opalasattic You are wrong. It is definitely Arthur Lee. Remember this was recorded in 2005 just a year before he died.

  • Wow he died real close to this concert. He sound's kind of sick. Not the energy he normally has.

  • @negritamira You're obviously a Madonna sycophant.

  • Hmm what's happening here LOL

Madonna actually took her inspiration from a boring song and made a mega hit (Beautiful starnger) so what's the fuck ?? Everybody in POP music get inspiration from other artist : that's a rule, wether it's Madona, M jackson or every one else. get a life people.

  • @shaneshaky1 I have three comments to make:

1:Love her or hate her, she has sold more records than Arthur EVER WILL

2:'Musically blind' makes no sense. You listen to music, so you should have used insult of 'musically deaf'. But after reading your comments, i don't suppose you reached even a medium level of education, so it probably isn't your fault.

3: EVERYONE is entitled to his or her opinion. You need to lighten up. What does it matter to you what other people listen to?

  • Madonna is like a disposal bin of used tampax pads. Even KISS are better musicians than Madonna, because they actually can play instruments (poorly, but they play their own instruments). Arthur Lee is in the same league with Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Igor Stravinsky. Madonna is like an annoying commercial on TV.

  • @mikedeviant Madonna shits all over your fucking face you FUCKTARD from hell. Please kill yourself tonite cunt.

  • @mikedeviant amen bro

  • it is stupid to say that madonna stole it. it's just an inspiration and a tribute to the sound of this band. anyway bith songs are similar and boith songs are good. This is how it happens in pop music guys ! Madonna songs and video are often "stolen" by younger artists and it is jus fine !

  • Comment removed

  • @shaneshaky1 arthur who ? Lol

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, Gay is Ok . To compare Madonna with Arthur Lee and Love is poptart crazy.

  • These guys are great. As a fan in 1968 I went to a gig w/friends and was asked to pick up the band at the airport, tho' I was just 17 they treated us with great hospitality and asked if it would be OK to help them out with their gear,of course we said yes, they treated us to tickets, lunch and $20 bucks each, we were blown away by their kindness and lack of ego. BTW, they played great and that 20 bucks fed me for 2 weeks!! RIP Mr. Lee

  • It's clearly the starting point for the music of 'Beautiful Stranger'.

Madonna didn't write the music. Blame William Orbit for thievery if you wish, but not Madonna this time - she writes only lyrics and the melody line (i.e. the way the lyrics are sung).

William does enjoy doing modern versions of old songs...

  • Thank you!

  • CLASSIC CLASS !!!!!!

  • The most ethereal & enchanting song of 1967.

I am so pleased I saw Arthur Lee/Love at Queen Elizabeth Hall in June 2002.

  • one of the best song of 60s

  • one of the best song of 60s

  • Nice.

Love was one of our best bands.

  • why the fuck are you talking about Madonna?

  • cos beautiful stanger sounds a lot like this song.ppl think she ripped love off:)

  • Shut up she didn't, beautiful stranger is totally different!

  • Madonna steals everything!!!! Most if not all her songs have been ripped off from other songs....

  • @theselector I'm not a big Madonna fan, but i do hate empty arguments, so do please list all of these songs that she has ripped off!

  • johhny should play the lead

not fucking dusty or rusty whatever hes called!!!!

  • Thanks a million for posting this one. Always one of my favorite songs.

A band from my families hometown did a pretty good cover of this years ago.

It's a shame they don't have the original up on Youtube anymore, they did until recently, but they're gone. What a shame.

  • Johnny Echols really shines on this one. Stone's copped She's A Rainbow from this song.

  • That's right. As a matter of fact, whenever the Stones were in L.A., they went to see Love. Jagger copped a lot of things from Arthur-using maracas and tambourine, clothing style like satin shirts and this song.

  • Comment removed

  • Don't The Stones have a song called "She comes in colours?" And I think it's older than this one.

  • Who the h*** is Madonna?

  • Wish the audience would shut up, ignorant fuckers!

  • black dudes with beatle haircuts singing songs influenced by the byrds...johnny and arthur were the coolest..bryan maclean was another guy who tried out for the monkees...we are lucky he didn't make it....

  • I've got Madonna's number in my little red book...

  • It's not that Madonna and producer William Orbit ripped off the melody; that happens all the time. It's that they gave no credit where it was due; that's just low-ass no-class bullshit.

  • Does Madonna even write her songs? The fact that she wouldn't know about it is embarrassing It's clearly a rip off. I'm sure William Orbit is fully aware of the similarities - it was meant as a 60's throwback after all. At least Keith Richards admitted this song inspired "She's a Rainbow" - lyrically that is. Arthur Lee was a musician's musician, if you know what I mean - so many acts that were massively more famous drew their inspiration from him

  • She does write her own songs but not all. this song however was written by M and orbit.

  • Arthur Lee was one of the great folk heroes of his time. Forever Changes gets my vote for best album ever! I still like Beautiful Stranger, in spite. But Madonna---she's basically a little better than average in my book.

  • U must b joking!!!! Madonna is the biggest Rip off queen in the history of Pop music.

  • i was there.

    London 23 Mar 2005

    thank you mr.Arthur Lee

  • Arthur Lee is one of my idols and Love is one of my top 10 favorite bands. Today I listen to Love more than my other favorite groups.

  • how do i get a flyer?

  • anyone hear madonna beautiful stranger from the spy who shagged me in this? she robbed arthur hook line and chord progression

  • I just spent a hour figuring this out. I just heard "she comes in colors" for the first time tonight and after listening something struck me. I started to dig in my memory for what song it sounded like and it dawnwd on me that it was madonnas song. Then I started listening to the 2 songs and found the similarities. So I googled both song names and came to here to leave this.

  • The original release date for "She Comes In Colors" was 1967, released by EMI for Love and Arthur Lee on the album, Da Capo. Hardly Madonna's song now, is it?

  • Please, madonna is second rate and was not on the earth scene when Lee was singing...

  • @nattynancy She is first rate in her field(not my choice of field though) and was born in 1958, so she was definately on this earth when Arthur was singing!

  • When I first heard Madonna's Beautiful Stranger (from the Austin Powers movie soundtrack and that I really like), I immediately thought of this song. Though I'm not a Madonna fan, you can't deny her talent and longevity. I'm 56 and owned the Love album when it came out. I read somewhere that Madonna was asked about the similarities and claimed she'd never heard this song. Given her age, I tend to believe her and think the similarities are coincidental.

  • Madonna's age is no excuse, if she was truly a music fan - and particularly producing a song with this sort of 60's influence, she should know about it. I'm only 28 - and I'm a huge fan of Arthur Lee.

  • @w0smith Sorry my friend, but that argument doesn't work. I'm 45 and new Alone Again Or, but thought it was by the Moody Blues, and i taped Que Vida off the radio in the early 80s, but didn't know who it was by. I only discovered Love after i borrowed the book 'Top 100 Albums You Should Own' and saw Love had three entries. I told my mate i'd never heard of them. He lent me Forever Changes, i learned it wasn't the Moody Blues... We saw Arthur live a year later, not too long before he died.

  • I don't think it could be coincidental, because there are at least two separate motifs taken from this song. It's quite possible that Madonna wasn't aware of the lift and in fact William Orbit or somebody else involved in writing the song was responsible. It's hardly crime of the century. But it's still frustrating that no credit was given to the inspiration - Beautiful Stranger was a pretty big hit as I recall.

  • given her age? im 43--younger than madonna- she may have written lyrics but ive never seen her play an instrument other than a fake plugged in acoustic onstage age has nothing to do with music appreciation

  • You're not very observant then: she played (badly, by her own admittance) keyboards on her duet with Prince, she played drums in the late 70s and early 80s, she played electric guitar back then too, and has recently re-learned to play both electric and acoustic guitars - not fake either, if you'd bothered to do your homework via YouTube.

  • a bit naive for 56.... Madonna has virtually ripped off , stolen or had big name producers "fix" most of her big hits... she's a nasty piece of work...

  • whatever hater! ur the nasty piece of work

  • cyberaga20, I'm curious as to why you visited this video. Your adamant that it's not the basis for Madonna's "beautiful stranger" but anyone with one ear can hear it's identical. Did you read about the fact she stole it on wiki and then come to defend Madge on here ? Seems awfully coincedental seeming you're a Madonna fan to be watching this vid..........

  • So now you're saying i'm Madonna? lol this gets worse lol You know what, enjoy this pile of dung..each to their own and yeah i am a Madge fan :) x

  • I think you replied to the wrong comment. I didn't say you were Madonna. You might be having delusuions of grandeur. Are you one of those people that ends up killing their idol ??

  • Comment removed

  • @theselector you're a nasty piece of shit and Madonna shits all over your fugly face cunt.Pop music is all about recycling ideas and concept and make them modern. They all do that and Madonna is also ripped of by many other artist nowadays.

  • @arnofreschini Recycling IS NOT the same as RIPPING OFF , STEALING & PLAGIARIZING en masse swathes of other people's songs , which is exactly what Madonna does & she's damn good at. There's a site you can actually visit and see a substantial LIST of ALL the songs she's PLAGIARIZED - literally HUNDREDS of songs.

  • @arnofreschini - The other thing AnolFrenchie or wateva u fukface name is....If u have to defend Madonna you must b one lame , gay & disturbed MOFO coz I'm pretty sure she doesn't give a Rats armpit about YOU or ur delusional rants. Madonna is ALL about HYPE & SENSATIONALISM noT MUSIC.

  • @theselector listen theselectAIDS, I don't give a shit about those fucking website managed by hateful losers like u. Madonna rox and your FAKE idol arthur lee that nobody knows sux. No one even knows if this piece of shit didn't steal the song as well LOL. I already owned many other FAGGOT CUNT like u so you'd better get the fuck out of my channel and get a life.

  • @arnofreschini You started the insults Frenchie not I. You made it personal Not I. If u want to argue about Madonna and the valid points regarding this post then fair enough BUT lay off the personal insults. As far as Arthur Lee is concerned I don't know anything about him aside from the fact he was in a band called LOVE.

  • @theselector ok show me where i started the insult ? you retard can't deal with other people's opinions. show me please !

  • @arnofreschini Look at ur post from 4 days ago - these r ur exact words: "you're a nasty piece of shit and Madonna shits all over your fugly face cunt"......So u definitely started the personal insults not me. If any1 can't stand other ppls opinions it's YOU b'coz if you have to swear n insult others using foul language instead of making valid points then it's you who has the problem.

  • @theselector that was just a nice little joke...lol. sorry anyways

  • @shaneshaky1 Madonna is not a musician she s a show woman and a POP star. she has energy, charisma, strengh and that s why people made her a star. plus everybody in showbizz get inspiration from other artist. so now stop spreading your stupid bullshit. have an extasy, listen to your shitty songs and we will all feel better.

Madonna shits all over your retard face.

  • Comment removed

  • @shaneshaky1 I already won long time ago honey. Your pathetic artist should thanks Queen of POP madonna for taking her inspiration from such a boring song and making an amazing hit. she shits all over his fugly face, and is superior. deal with that or kill yourself. (truth hurts ;-)

  • @uberalles2 if you want to talk robbing songs, check out "Led Zeppelin Examples of Plagarism (Part 1)" on here...

  • Hello to any and all. I had no idea this stuff was on this site, but I am glad, and I would say that in it's time, it was good. As Larry Coryell advised me in 1967, everything's been done musically, it just keeps getting recycled and enjoyed by new people. I personally think he is right. I was the lead guitarist in Love from November 1970 until March 1971, and I really liked Arthur; he was a very smart man, and looking back now, I would say he was a

"Folk hero". Craig Tarwater - 6/24/2007

  • Is this true you were a member of Love over a year,I bet you could tell some great stories,I agree about the rehashing of music,I noticed alot of Beatles and early rock in Kurt Cobains work and lots of others*

  • Right on Man, You were in my favourite era. I've heard a bootleg from your time and it's heavy, heavy stuff. Nice to see your post.

  • hey man!

you are a hero too for sharing in the stage with arthur!, most people are only "getting love" now!, they were way ahead of the 60s-90s!, they arec so 21st century!!! and beyond!!, my favourite band!, im 33!

  • Perhaps one of the most "Genious" musicians/writers of the 60's, and "Love" was one of the best, most creative groups. Its a shame most true artists are not aknowledged until after their death. RIP Arthur! You deserve it!!

  • Was Bryan dead by this point?

  • Yes. Bassman Ken Forssi has also passed away. This clip was from Arthur Lee's last tour in 2005. The backing band is Baby Lemonade. That's Johnny Echols, the original Love lead guitarist to Arthur's left. The only other surviving member from the first album is "Snoopy" Pfisterer.

  • awe man, you gotta have the flute in this song or its nothing!!!!

  • just amazing what this guy did and how little remembered he is...

  • Awesome song and my personal favorite from LOVE -thank you for posting that footage

I wish i could see some older1960'sfootage of them if anyone else should have any at all uploading it would be appreciated.

  • Sadly, there really isn't much. Useless someone has some stored away somewhere. Arhtur Lee and the original Love were not big on videos and photos. That's why there are so few. He had a chance to play at the Montery Pop Festival in 1967 but turned it down. That's how isolated they were. I think it's really sad myself because it would have been nice like videos of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and even early Pink Floyd, a band that is comparable to early Love.

  • Thank you for your info.

  • Not one of Arthur's best nights, but the crowd doesn't seem to mind.

  • Jeez, how old are these guys? Arthur Lee has cancer or something right?

  • he died
