@xoxBertieSianxox If you want to be really picky, it should be 'de-ga-zhe'. french 'g' is not the same as english 'sh' and the 'e' on the end is 'é' so it is a short 'e'-sound not an 'ay'... but i agree the pronunciation is appalling
What happened to fondue and frappés at the bar? and adagio? these videos makes me want to cry sometimes cos they are not doing anyone any good i think... :( sorry to put it out there but...
The problem with these series of videos is the sub titles. The sub titles block the feet, ankles and everything else that is important to be seen in order for one to learn proper ballet technique. Why would you create a learning video with sub titles blocking the important features of learning ballet?
@02savedbygrace the way she's pronouncing things isn't how I've heard them, and I've had four different ballet teachers, although it might just be her accent. She seems to be stressing the wrong syllables.
She seems to be losing contact with the floor on her degages, it's hard to tell with the subtitles blocking her feet, but thats how it looks to me.
@Stradno1 i'm prettty sure my teachers know what they're doing. It might be an accent thing, because i'm australian, but i swear she pronouced the 't' at the end of 'battement'
Sorry to put it out there but I think if she really knows what shes doing she should know what to say.. An how to explain. -.-

if people watching this actually need her to explain what pirrouettes and adagio are, they probably shouldnt be teaching a ballet class...

Fondu and frappè don't exist in her class ?

It's only the very basics at barre... One can do a lot more there... but thats the most important stuff
cocolinabt 2 years ago 6
she's pronouncing half of the steps wrong, and at the barre, it looked more like a glise than a degage to me.
EvAisSuperAWESOME 2 years ago 8
@EvAisSuperAWESOME no shes pronouncing it right. and she's doing degages correctly. or atleast that's how i learned them.

@EvAisSuperAWESOME : Actually, her prononciation is very good, so perhaps you've just had teachers that don't know what they are talking about...?

'elevés" wtf?
tedsler 2 years ago 4
it is releve without plie
isai9025 2 years ago
thanks, during my 15 years of ballet i have NEVER heard that term
tedsler 2 years ago
It's like a relevé without the plié, if I'm not mistaken. Teachers don't use it very much though.
KnittyGrittyNatch 2 years ago
they're more likely to call it "rise"

I think at 1:06 she meant crutch...
