That's great research... He's a great drummer. ALL artists have influences.. Any intros like "11" on Sailing the Seas of Cheese or the end of "Nature Boy" on Pork Soda? You might like them
@spookypunky I'm only too familiar with them:> I know all the '89-'95 albums backwards. The obsession began in '96 when I found an olde cassette tape in a drawer at home. 'To Defy The Laws Of Tradition' was the first song... & the rest is history:> It became my new air drumming music. Took a couple of years to 'master' them all, but as well as being fun it really helped my coordination & drum style. I've listend to these songs more than anyone else in this world I can confidently claim.
@spookypunky Jellikit is his only 'recorded' solo. Check it out in my favs section:> It's under the title 'Primus Two Pack, Jellikit & Pudding Time'. Posted by jayfather, though I suppose ye saw this from my earlier post. There's another Jellikit audio post on Youtube but the quality is teeeeerrrrri-bibble. Primus Two Pack... :3 ...
@spookypunky yup! he has mentioned neal several times, also has les talked about the skills of geddy lee! you can definitely hear the peart influence of his solos. pretty cool how musicians are fans too, even herb the ginseng drummer
@TOTALITARIO999 This aint no solo. If ye wanna here a proper Herb solo then look in my favourites section & check out the 'Primus Two Pack, Jellikit & Pudding Time', posted by jayfatha at my request. His Jellikit solo is full of awesome beans, & the rest of the song after is even better! I asked jayfather to post it as his audio posts have the best quality. Check it out..
@NetherNoTwisting I don't really think it's a solo, it's just part of Nature Boy that he elaborates on while playing it live around the '93-'94 time. He seemed to enjoy rolling around on the snare at the time as I've heard a few variations of Nature Boy live. As it happens, I currently enjoy doing the same with the snare:> Just the past year or so. I don't know where it came from but I enjoy it.
when i saw primus live, i didn't even cheer, didn't even move. I just sat on the front row balcony and stared mesmerized at their talent before soiling myself.
Holy Shit!!! You made my day. I totally agree with you about Tim "Herb" Alexander. The day I heard them, Herb skills knocked me out, I seriously had a hard time listening to them with Brain, it's not that they weren't good, but Herb was a major reason for their unique sound and it had such an influence on me it was like something was missing.
Good to see fans of Herb watching my only vid(",) And to anyone who thinks he's 'boring' & 'doesn't use enough drums', then check out Frizzle Fry & Mr Knowitall in my fav's section. They really are two of my favourite Primus songs. So listen to them if ye want to know why Herb is unmatched, but not just those two, practically every Primus song has awesome Herb diversity & skills just oozing through yer speakers.
Nick Oshiro doesn't do anything inspiring, Tim Yeung is pretty good, Neal Peart is probally the best drummer in the world... Tim Alexander isn't that bad, check out his drum clinic.
want a drummers opinion, herb is the only drummer ive ever heard that sounds like he has more than 2 arms to play with, tommy lee is good but no comparison. only vinnie paul would come close, brain is great too but hes only stepping into shoes already worn in by herb. the whole feel of rhythm from primus was created by the totally unique sound and i think alot of that came from herb making up weird beats and fills. my 2cents. thankyou for posting primus vids
Herb is for sure one of my favorite drummers from sheer creativity. But compare him to a Thomas Lang or Tony Royster...Now thats no comparison when it comes to the ranks or natural given talent.

Tommy Lee is the greatest drummer EVER!!! He can play upside down! Plus did you see his video w/ pam anderson? Where's Tim Alexander, Danny Carey, and Neil Peart on that one?
C'mon dude you know Tommy Lee rules! He can play UPSIDEDOWN! lol It was a joke dumbass, guess I have to put lol next to everything for the slow people
Ok soooo you're dumb, so is Tommy Lee, Pam Anderson, and everyone who thought I was actually serious about Tommy lee being the best, now go back to wasting your free time fighting with people on youtube
this isnt actually a "drum solo". its the ending of the song Nature Boy. listen to the album version from pork soda and you'll hear where it came from. the chops are very similar.
.........especially when they think the drummer is the best because he can play upside down! WTF? He wasnt even the first to do it. Buddy Rich did that on the "Ive got a secret" special in the 60's. Doesnt make me think any differently about him, unless he was controlling the moving riser while he was playing drums! Now that would be sick!!
As for the Danny Carey and Tim Alexander dispute, I hate to say it ( cuz i'm a huge Herb fan) but Danney Carey easily surpasses Tim's drumming. Any fan of both would agree.
too bad IDIOTS can't appreciate this. the only thing most people know in terms of drum solos is being ridiculously fast and loud, with the overdone stick twirl and/or throw. fuckin audience.
Danny and Tim are both friggin amazing. They're both my favorite drummers but i gotta say i think dannys better. But i like them equally. come on guys tool and primus are just amazing at different levels.
And Joy1Ride where is your major record deal? Major endorsements? Multiplatinum selling, 8 world tours, countless side projects( including BLUE MAN GROUP)100's of hours of t.v. and radio.
