  • No disrespect btw, but I can't seem to find an ascot tie within the video. These are all cravats only.

  • @Gardash111 Hence, the name of the video. LOL

  • @gsbohn

Not be an a'hole, but you mention ascot's in info.

  • @Gardash111 Touche~ LOL

  • There's a big difference between a cravat and an ascot tie. The cravat is a croatian neckband - a piece of cloth tied in a certain way.

The ascot tie arrives much later and is a special sort of cravat. Generally orginally used with morningcoats, and later appeared in Hollywood films. It's that puffy piece of cloth beneath an open collar.

With an ascot tie (= easy put: a tie with 2 wide ends) tie a four-in-hand knot, and pull over the bridge, not through it. That's an ascot.

    Thumbs up pls.

  • Aw this makes me sad you didn't include the scarlet pimpernel.

"la, but someone has to strike a pose and bear the weight of well-tailored clothes..."

  • @Woodlander65 LOL!!

At least you can wear the waistcoat. You're halfway there with that. I'll have to tell the girls on my forum that there's a guy out there that might someday consider a cravat. LOL . . . swooners, all.

  • @Woodlander65 You sound handsomely dressed that way. Can't blame you on the cravat, but it sure does all of us women who that time period weak in the knees. LOL. We covet men with cravats. LOL

  • what's the difference between a Cravat and an ascot tie

  • @navylaks2 I think the ascot it the name of the knot and how the neckpiece is worn.

  • Boy, do these guys look good! What a novel idea for a video. Does anyone know when the cravat was replaced by the necktie?

  • amazing, i love cravats and want to learn how to tie them but its not easy to find proper instructions! great video :) i love period shows

  • There is nothing like a man in a cravat! Thank you for this :)

  • WOW! Love these classy men... There is nothing like a man well dressed....

Now a days the cool look is the baggy jeans dropped under their butts... they think they look so hot... they look like they've pooped themselves and are proud to carry it around...lol

But these men are the creme of the creme... Thanks so much for sharing this video... Big fan of the Foresyte Saga Series... Loved it!

  • Foresyte men were impeccably dressed.

Men were resplendent way back then. (swoon)

  • Oh my God! I knew all the clips and actors.Own all films on DVD. I must be obsessed. Thank you for the lovely video, it was like a quiz. :)

  • The day I get married I'm seriously going to try to dress up my man like that! Yummy!:)

  • Me, too. I just need to find a guy who I can convince to do it :)

  • Thanks for doing this, I loved it!

It's great seeing all those sexy men in period dress. And I'm so glad you included JJ Feild!

  • You are most welcome. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I love JJ, too. Yum. LOL

  • Finally remembered the Actor... It's Richard Grant one A&E's/ BBC's version... First part

  • You started your fine eyes quiz with a clip from a movie... you could have started this one with a clip from The Scarlet Pimpernel... I can't remember the actor but he has a quote about cravats that would go great with this

  • Leslie Howard, was the actor. He's in my favorite version of The Scarlet Pimpernel.

    Love this video, though. :-)

  • I really like that version also but the one i was thinking of was the A&E/BBC version with Richard Grant.... Its different but still really good

  • is it bad that i happen to know about 3/4 of these?

i must have no life at all!

  • I really enjoyed this! I'm also envious of your computer skills. Such a great bunch of good looking men; funny how a bit of neck cloth gives dimension to the men...

What do you make of the bit of black cloth David Tennant wears in Casanova? A bit sloppy to be a cravat.

  • Thanks so much. I don't have the David Tennant clip from Casanova in this vid. In this one, he's a clergyman. I'm a senior who's playing playing with computers has hobby since 1984. You just pick up things, but thanks so much.

  • I LOVE a man in a cravat - Thanks for making his vid !!!!....

  • Thank you. It's very satisfying when someone recognizes the time put into a vid and says something about it. Much appreciated.

  • WOW!! How long did this take you? I must say that the the expression "Strangely fascinating!" is perfect for this video. I never knew I was interested in cravats and stuff... I guess all the handsome men help...

  • Thank you very much. Sorry to be late responding, but YouTube isn't notifying me about comments being left. Appreciate the comment.

  • Two questions:

    1) Where do I buy one?

    2) Where can I learn to tie one?

    Thanks

  • Love it! And I envy you!!! Have you seen all those movies????????I' ve never heard before this about Mrs Brown, or ... Trotter. Now i'll search something about them. Thanks to you. Really, beautiful work you have made.

  • Oh thank you. Yes, I own them all. The Tilly Trotter is from the Catherine Cookson collection. I have about 20 of her novels on dvd. I loved Mrs. Brown with Judi Dench, Gerard Butler (small part) and Connelly, the Scottish comedian and Mr. Brown.

  • Fantastic! Love those cravats and the men wearing them.

  • Me too. Thanks for the comment.

  • I'm commenting from my daughter's account, Geneie. She just saved your video on favorites. Another conquest! Thomas

  • Hey Thomas, thanks for checking in. Tell your daughter - Welcome Aboard. You are a good example of a mother. LOL!! Thanks.

  • I think you're doing an amazing work with all those vids! Very interesting slideshow I have to say!!! And I realise the effort you put in your vids! Keep up the great work my friend!!!

  • Thanks so much for your support. It pleases me greatly to hear you refer to my work (all those vids) as amazing. All my work is worth it. Thanks for being a viewer of them.

  • Wear cravats, today? Me too. Would love to see them. Aren't they grand! Thank you on the compliment of the way I made it. It was about 60 hours of loving work. I have more videos you might like.

  • Nice to see a slideshow that is well constructed. Your videos are all very interesting, threw up some surprises too!

Feel sorry for the poor souls who repeatedly tied all these cravats, ties etc.

  • So glad you liked it and the way it was made. I wonder what the surprises were - I guess films you haven't heard of. Nice of you to notice the effort in the construction. Thanks again.

  • Your work is excellent!!! Love the slideshow and ofcourse the cravats. Thanks

  • WOW! Excellent slideshow. That must have taken you quite some time.......:-)

  • Thank you for understanding the time and effort. It took about 60 hours to put together, with 46 dvd films, 80 actors, and 236 slides. Thanks for the recognition and I am glad you liked it.

  • loved it! :D

  • That was my goal. Thanks for commenting.

  • LOL You know I never really noticed cravats that much until Mansfield Park where he was tying it while Fanny ran down the stairs. 5 stars.
