I'm curious about the software that makes the animation. Does it use a midi file or input from a midi keyboard. Reading the input seems like the hardest part and the animation seems like the more creative you want it to look the harder it would be to make. What language was this made in? I might be interested in making one, I was looking at the MidiDevice class in java, that seemed like it could be used to read midi input and from there I could make an animation.
@youamsuck That would be me: I performed it, recorded it, wrote the software that made the animation, and uploaded the result. Uploading it was the easy part.
I would like to compliment whoever played this; it is my favorite version I have heard so far. Tells quite a story, and I like how each note is easily registered, unlike some of the versions I've heard.
@cgatejames i love how all you people cant see what im saying. this sounds like brad mehldau. i try to say "hey guys, we have a bridge" and you fiends burn it down because of a rigid caste system. "you jazz meatheads stay where you are, and dont you dare suggest WE had anything to do with `that abomination`." bebop isnt the modal totality of jazz. open your minds, and your hearts.
Such a delicate and light piece in places - the animation helps you "see" the music - very helpful to appreciate it, thank you for playing it with feeling and sensitivity.
@KyrianaeWolfsbane You should put your composition up hear. I'd love to listen to it. Who knows, maybe we'll be watching animations of your work some day. ;)
what im saying is the french impressionists were the major inspiration behind jazz. the fact this is called "first arabesque" fascinates me. for instance, pharoah sanders and sun ra. sun ra has a solo piano album, there is no difference, just as beautiful. there is a specific sequence i am talking about @1:45 on for a few bars. i really dont care if you agree, thats what i got from it. (and that descending line... heavenly. i didnt know christ was french.)
I first heard this song as the theme song for stargazer at midnight at the end of broadcast for PBS and loved it, but never knew its' name. Beautiful version.
@f34r0r If your work is over 75 years you don't hold their rights anymore wasn't it? they have no owner after a period of time, but the amount of time I'm not so sure about the 75 years
@f34r0r hahaahha most of these composers have been dead for decades at the very least... once you die (and that many years go by) anyone is free to interpret your songs as they will... especially since most of these composers didn't have "copyright" issues to begin with...
