Haha, oh man, I was 7 when we got this on VHS and I was exactly the opposite. Sometimes I even REWOUND AND WATCHED IT AGAIN. I loved this scene so much...
hahaha!!! i only watched this scene because of his blue coat! so shmexy! but when she opened her gob she was '>>fastforwarded' she has a naisely voice =/ sorry hun, but that bonnett has to go too, BYEBYE BELLE!
but but....this is an integral part of the story, showing one of the main factors that lead to Scrooge's broken, grumpy and miserable persona in his later life :O
You should have stopped fast-forwarding it halfway through, saw she was still singing, then fast-forwarded it some more. I would have LOL'd even harder.
My dad loves this song. My dad hates songs in movies and he likes this song. It's so powerful.
The new way of watching Muppets Christmas Carol since they got rid of this song is to pause it at the point you started fast forwarding and to go on youtube find this video, watch?v=XO_Y5lzSLZI&feature=related, watch it, and then watch the rest of the film.
Ahahaha, I did this too when I was a kid! "What?! Boring emotional stuff!!" *fast forwards*. Some people in the comments seem to be outraged that anyone would fast forward through this touching song, but when you're four you just want to see muppets singing happy songs about Christmas. Now as an adult this is one of my favorite parts of the movie! It's so touching.
@meekakitty Yeah, the whole idea for this video came about when my friend and I were talking about the movie and realized we BOTH did this when we were younger, so I determined right then and there that this had to be on the internet. (that's also when I realized that there was no version of the song on YouTube, either. Well, from Muppet Christmas Carol, that is)
I find this kind of funny and it makes sense, since in the original release of this movie, this song was cut but then put back in later on for the dvd
that is very offensive to the most emotional song in this film ou should have watched it normally and enjoy the song. i watch this film several times every year around christmas song and i love this song so much that i rewind it and watch it over and over and over again cos it is so emotional and it makes me so happy and sad at the same time that i cry
I can't believe you just skip over it! I love this song! I've even cried before! Maybe... I think... it counts!! It's such an important life lesson, as that person a few posts ahead of me mentioned.
haha so at your house you just skip over the most emotional song!? The songs are what make the movie great! I actually laughed when you skipped over it :).
@p405e i agree with you about it being the most emotional song and that the songs make the movie great but when i saw that he fastforwarded it i was so angry and really peaved off and thats why i wrote my long angry comment
I both like and hate this song. On one hand, it's incredibly boring and slows down the pace (although the version during the credits is awesome), however, I feel like it fits into the movie and scrooge gains more sympathy from the audience listens to clara basically dumping scrooge in a song. Also, it makes more sense for scrooge and rizo to be crying in the end of the scene.
well id have to say tht anybody tht fastfowards a song in any MUSICAL yes i said musical bcause thts wut it is, first of all these type of songs are there bc they build to tht person, if this song isnt there u dont kno the whole story just read the book this song is practically based on how clara deserted scrooge, and i have to say anyone who does this at any part in any musical does not know culture bc indeed sirs and madames this stuff is culture and thts all i have to say about this outrage
I was so pissed when I watched the DVD and this song was cut out - it makes no sense. Why would Scrooge be all of a sudden crying??? Sure, he's going through an emotional change, but it's not suited to his character
why would anyone fast-forward through this song? It gives background on Mr Scrooge's life and it's a huge turning point in the movie. Plus the song is very emotional, which i love
the DVD doesnt have it on at all? that's horrible!!!!!! it has to have this song in it, it help soften scrooge even more. and the song is pretty good too
gosh I miss that song! It made me feel so much more for Scrooge's relationship. It's now cut from the film. Doesn't make sence why Rizzo or anyone is upset without it.
This made me laugh out loud. I love musicals, but since I was young I've hated this song. When they show it on tv, I actually click to another channel here.
I love this song but a lot of songs were cut do to time limits. I think Paul Williams put a lot of heart in this song when he wrote it and was probab ly sad when it was cut.
My copy doesnt seem to have this song on it at all. it goes straight from her saying "you did once" to rizzo crying. I think really it works better without the song, beause it doesnt add to the story, and kind of hampers the flow
Idk whats worse here, the song being cut, or people ACTULLY believing that this was on the DVD =p lolz nice job. If they had taken the song off it would have been a cut scene and gone on to the next one, not fast forwarded lol. (Yes I own it on VHS and DVD) Anyways Its a great song, that woman has a great voice and it is a heart grabbing song.
WHY THE HELL DID THEY DITCH THIS SONG?!? We used to have this on video but then one year it broke! But WHY did they loose this song on the DVD version? Thank you for posting this interesting fact by the way.
Yes they did. It wasn't in the original release and it's not in the widescreen part of the newest release. It's a tragedy. They call-back to this song at the end of the movie, and not including it damages the end of the film.
I think it's in the Fullscreen but not the Widescreen version. Or maybe its just because I selected it manually. I dunno, but the song itself is on the DVD in some form. Wish they hadn't removed it from the movie. That was a bad move.
So they took it off the DVD? I fully intend to Frankenstein my own version onto DVD with the song put back into it! Even if it does mean that it suddenly switches to VHS quality in the middle of the movie! I mean really, it's just too important to the plot to leave out.
Wow, I thought I was the only one that ever fast forwarded it through that song. It just never really appealed to me even though I appreciate musicals and the style that this particular song was presented. This video made me chuckle!
The song is on the Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition of Muppet Christmas Carol DVD (released in 2005), in the Fullscreen version. Curiously, the song is NOT in the Widescreen version on the same disc. (The only widescreen version of the movie that has that song, as far as I know, is the Laserdisc.)
The song is rather un-Muppetish but it is an important part of the story. Plus, watching it every year, I now can't live without it -- it is sad but it makes the ending all the more rewarding.
yeah that's pretty stupid dude... not only is it one of the best songs in the movie it's a big part of the story. you can't possibly be a Muppet fan and not like that song!
I always loved this song and I used to sing it when I was little, but I always begged my mum to fast-forward it when we actually watched the movie because it made me super-sad.
