Great video. Why not use Mayday's graphic pack, instead? Looks the best out of all of em', in my opinion (unless it's a GUI/menu issue; it does make some changes where certain commands are assigned to non-existent keys). >.>
I think I have a devious trap. Get a pit fall trap, like a grate, and have the enemy fall one level, then set that area to a pit/pond and have your dwarfs slowly drown the enemy!
Here's a nice idea- an airlock entryway that's basically adamantine walls, lever-locked adamantine doors and adamantine gates with a row of fortifications behind the gates. If an enemy tries to get in, the inner door can be locked along with the outer door and the gates open. What do the goblins see but a hail of arrows!
If you want to use artifacts I think it's going overboard to use it on one noble...as soon as I have 2 or 3 artifacts like doors armor stands weapon stands etc. I think I will just make one big room for nobles, because artifacts add SO MUCH value to a room they won't mind that they are sharing and that their quarters/office/dining room are all the same room.
Well, with Bauxite Fortifications, the enemies can't get through, but there is a chance of an enemy spawning inside the magma you've filtered off into the fortress.
Of course, Captainduck has made a "U-tube" of magma, which involved floorgrates...
the materials for smelter-type buildings (e) has to be firesafe, (not wood!)
The darker green blocks for the magma buildings will seal the hole if you build them over it, preventing things like fire imps from exiting through them, and stopping accidental deaths, from berserk dwarfs or intruders like thieves, knocking dwarfs into the holes.
But what's so bad about losing a dwarf baby? They can always make others. Water can be as deadly to magma to dwarves in armour, the weight means they drown much quicker, unless there is a staircase very close by
yeah, sometimes water-filled moats are dangerous, if you're on a map that freezes. magma is better, because you can use screw pumps to pump it up to kill enemies
But becareful on making Magma moats, because if one of your skilled dwarves dodges a enemies attack and falls in the moat, he goes bye bye, it'll be more dangerous if it was a freaking champion.
Yeah exactly, this is why i dont go for magma moats to. Remember baby roll? She wa floating around in the water, and survived (sort of). If that moat was filled with magma she would have instantly burned to death.
True, it's not necciserily better to fill it with water or magma, but i like that it helps you see the moats better, holes dont show up good in normal grass.
you know its a really REALLY good idea to back up yoru save game once in a while in your Dwarf Fortress > Data > Saves
that way if you flood you can just revert to the instant right before you saved.

Boatmurdered had somewhat of an ultimate defense...
A magma flow that, with a pull of a lever, would flood the entire area outside of his Fortress, killing everybody outside.
Ofcourse in their case it was necessary, what with all the hordes of Elephants.

You go overboard with noble rooms.
I satisfied the queen with an artifact adamantine door.

If I don't use any bars, can creatures come up though the holes used for the magma forges/smelters?

Great video, and great series.
Two things:
the materials for smelter-type buildings (e) has to be firesafe, (not wood!)
The darker green blocks for the magma buildings will seal the hole if you build them over it, preventing things like fire imps from exiting through them, and stopping accidental deaths, from berserk dwarfs or intruders like thieves, knocking dwarfs into the holes.

even better is a bridge over a bottomless pit as the only entrance... you get the idea

You all should lol... But I don't make moats, because I use up 3/4 of underground for many things.
Beside she would've suffocated, but the goblin took her away xD. oh well.. did you met her yet in sieges/ambushes yet?
KirbySTR 3 years ago
Nah since i stopped playing that fort for the current fortress.
captnduck 3 years ago
You don't really have to fill your moat up with water, It works better if it's just a pit with traps at thr bottom.
