That female vocalist was Stevie Lange who was married to Mutt Lange at the time. Mutt married Shania Twain, divorced her and maybe he and Stevie will get together again. Stevie went on to produce and teach voice. Fabulous singer, yes!

I went to elementary school with Walter's son, also named Walter. Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills,NY. Walter Sr. was just an all around great guy. I remember at the Austin Street fair, Walter giving a shout out to my girlfriends and I while we watched him perform. Very Sweet. Haven't seem him in 10 years. I think I was about 13.

The best version of this song was done by a band called "The Malibooz" Walter Egan was a member in that band. They re-recorded the song for the album Malibooz Rule! The song title was "Hot Summer Nights '81". They changed some of the lyrics, it was longer, and had a much stronger ending to it.

I found this album by accident back in 1981. I stumbled upon this album, saw the song "Hot Summer Nights '81" was on it, loved Walters original version (I still have the original 45) & bought the album.

I agree. It's been almost thirty years since I last heard this tune, way back in the summer of 1979 when I was fresh out of highschool, 18 and naive. I liked "Nights" version better. I thought they were the only group who sang this.

I always liked Egan's original version much better than the version Night had a hit with. For anyone looking for Egan's CD's they have finally been reissued by a British company. "Fundamental Roll" & "Not Shy" are on a single CD and its cheaper than a copy of "Not Shy" by itself and it has great liner notes by Egan. Also the albumns "HiFi" & "The Last Stroll" are combined on a single CD. All are available on Amazon and are great bargains.

Yeah, Walter and Stevie were an item in the 70's. Walter was also given Sisters Of The Moon by Stevie and he was doing that song during his Not Shy tour in 1978. He also released it on his cd The Lost Album. That would be tough to find these days.

From one of the most underrated of albums--Not Shy. That album was played at least twice a day during the summer of '78 on the beach in Salisbury. I remember going to see a Tom Petty concert at the Paradise in Boston, solely to see Walter Egan open. Got there to discover Egan had canceled. I was totally bummed.
