Frusciante was hugely inspired by Johnny Marr, and at on point in his career, learnt every song by The Smiths on guitar. Marr's parts probably sound similar because of his influence over Frusciante.

johnny marr is playng on just the intro sections. right before the clean rhythm chords. it is all john after that.
