dang! you almost lost! lol at 16:04, you gave black a completely free piece checking the king when N-h6. he could have simply Qd2xNh6, and your attack would have been sadly halted. my next move would have either been Qxf6 to swap queens, to rethink an attack and get my king out of trouble completely. if you play the waste move of g4-g5, even to get your rook involved, i feel that i could still offer queen trade by then and give myself some escape squares. it probably wouldn't go too well for u.
not sure if it was said but at 7:11, knigh takes pawn at d5 followed by bishop takes rook, then knight takes pawn at f6 wins 2 pawns. after knight to f8 to block mate at h7 you can take the rook and mate i think will follow or at least you can win back the bishop, because your rook is still attacking it.
@18:26. A possible idea could be to hit a check with the queen on e4. He could block with the bishop, but then you could play Nc2+ forking the king and the rook.
great reviews, I like your channel alot, it definatly improved my game some! At 16:00 he was free to take your knight with his queen, I wonder why he didn't?
Just a quick question on your third game. What does Pawn to a4 do? I see it in some of my games but I could never really wrap my head around what it accomplishes.
After 4:45 you said: "If the knight comes toe4, I will just take and I´ve 2 pieces for the rook", but the can take the Ne4 with the rook, if the knight goes there, right?
Kf2 doesn't solve the problem, though, because black can still just play Nc2, which accomplishes two things: it threatens to expose the king, forcing it to g3, and it attacks the rook on a1. White can't block with the queen because after trading, the rook is lost. I'm sure there's a better move afterwards, but Qe4+ to Nc2 looks good.
Hi: thanks for your excellent videos. I've played chess for many years so I can understand your presentation, and I really enjoy your style. Anyway, I paused the video at 25:25 and was thinking: that's where I'd get stuck trying to figure out a strategy. I'd be interested to see how you would use rybka to analyze a position like that, and how you would learn from the analysis.
I like both ideas. Running multiple games, especially with the same openings really helps get a grasp of what to look for. also individual games help with in depth maneuvers and whatnot. You can't possibly make a bad video anyway, they're all good so far, just keep goin!
yeah, that was really good. I like the format of watching games, it provides an overall view, unlike the other videos that start at a preset point and seem rather fragmented
Great vid, i personally enjoy this longer format, its really great seeing you play all those blizt games in one run, but i also want to see a regular chess game, you have helped my chess games alot. thanks and i cant wait to see more of this type of format
I enjoyed watching this, I believe you should do more like this and maybe some long real time games as well. Blitz games are always fun because blunders are numerous, but you should try a real time long game.
At 15:05, after 1. g4 (great move btw), Qh6, I think you had the pretty good move Rd1 with threat of Rd8 next move. G4 kicked the black queen from guarding the crucial d1 square.
1. g4, Qh6
2. Rd1, Rd2 (only defense)
[if 2. g6 (give king escape square)
3. Rd8+, Rxd8
4. Qxd8, Kg7
5. f6# (mated by pawn on f-file guarded by queen on d8)]
3. Rxd2, Qxd2
4. h3
You have a winning advantage in this simplified position. Still good to see you pull a beautiful win out of that whole mess.
no he would just push up to F7 check the only move is king H8 then he could queen the pawn and when rook captures recapture with the queen or check with queen rook takes back and then pawn captures rook promoting to either queen or rook
In the second game around about 7 mins you had a crushing victory open to you. Nxd4 if black takes the pinned rook Bxe1 then Nxf6. Black has to move the knight to prevent Qh7++. A possible continuation being ...Nh4 Nxg8 Rxg8 Qe5+ Rg7 Qxg7++.
Thanks for the video watched it 2 times now. I myself am really interested in chess but I am just learning the basics and have only few openings memorized. I like the longer video you shoud do more of these!
Maybe I should practice new things less on my blitz and get it closer to my standard rating. We'll see how it goes - whenever I try to play unrated for practice I land a lot of computer opponents which is annoying. Thanks for checking out the vid!
The first game made me pissed. He gave you his queen for a bishop?! WTH is that about? Please tell me you were playing a computer...a very low level computer...
Yeah I didn't think through the rook capture long enough. I actually say in the vid I am gonna drop it but for whatever reason my opponent played his other move. Thanks for checking out the vid!
interesting your comentaries about Alekhine defence. Seeing the Fischer 's games agaist this defence, I had the impression that the agresive play of white is efective at the first moment, and then, is a very dificult defence for black, but very interesting endeed.
The defence definitely has its merits, and still has a healthy use at the top levels. That being said, it's definitely one of the more difficult ones when playing against certain lines at white's disposal - thanks for checking out the vid!
This was a good vid jrobi, 3 wins to one loss. AT 32:35 he might have forked your knights with the bishop on e3. i suppose? good intro to alakine defence. good upload. It is fine to have a long video like this as the games are unfolding and the suspense keeps it moving well i thought. best of luck
Great video, as usual. I wouldn't worry too much about the 'quality of the commentary' - it's interesting to hear what you're focusing on and how quickly you're able to assess each move, and that can be picked out of sentence fragments and brief comments. You'll never be able to do narration during a live game without disinvesting yourself of the outcome.
I really enjoyed the video the games were all fun to watch and listen to you thinking out loud is interesting so you should do that more often! One thing you could do instead is one less game so you'll have the time to analysis the other games more. Good job!!!!
At 7:20 in game 2 you wondered if you could get compensation for the rook if you moved the knight. I don't think it was relevant. Nd5 Nf6 could've forced mate together with the bishop and the queen with the king in the corner there.
I usually default to my last vid for rating, although I plan on entering official over the board standard rated tournaments this summer. Thanks for checking out the vid!
I don't have the patience to watch videos that are much more than five minutes but I watched the whole video here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the good work Jrobi!
I like this type a bit more, bot only because it makes up for the infrequent postings, but also because it lets us see casual games which are just as important as the ones you regularly pick out. It's also always nice to see how someone reacts in real time. But damn, that was a quick 34 minutes! I guess time flies
Hey jrobi, how much does your rating fluctuate, and how much do you value your current rating? I find myself playing less with better ratings for fear I might lose the newly acquired title. Just wondering what your thoughts on the subject are.
Currently I don't place much value in my online rating, but I will be working hard for my official tournament rating starting this summer. That being said, I went through exactly what you talked about a number of months ago. When I get like that I just remind myself it's a great game, and it's fun. The rating part is just a number, and if the first two pieces are in place (having fun and studying because it's enjoyable) the rating will follow. Thanks for checking out the vid!
Hi umm at 18:23 . . . cudnt u push ur queen to check on e4? and if he blocks with bishop then fork on c2 or if he pushes queen in front u can take queen and after he retakes with bishop fork once again fork on the c2 square with the night. . . i dunno i just thought that would be a good idea let me kno :). Even if he takes with the king u atleast made him unable to castle :D
Even if you wanted to be lazy, and not put any commentary on this video, I would of still watched it and greatly enjoyed it. (I swear the beginning of this sentence is like an April Fool's Joke, with the lazy part XD)
On second though, keep the commentary, as it's awesome. ;)
I was thinking of breaking them up but opted for the more free-flowing option of just playing until it felt like a good time to stop. I would like to add more analysis at the end though (from more than one game). Will try that next time. Thanks for checking out the vid!
I play on the Free Internet Chess server, and use Aquarium for analysis with Rybka 3. I have videos on both of those to help get you up and running.

Cool video, found it on the most discussed list. I like these blitz games, and I like watching you play, as well as the analysis. Subscribed.

Even if you wanted to be lazy, and not put any commentary on this video, I would of still watched it and greatly enjoyed it. (I swear the beginning of this sentence is like an April Fool's Joke, with the lazy part XD)
On second though, keep the commentary, as it's awesome. ;)

great format, i wish the games were broken up with maybe a mention of your site, or behind the scenes footage. and then back to the next game.
thewordengine 2 years ago
I was thinking of breaking them up but opted for the more free-flowing option of just playing until it felt like a good time to stop. I would like to add more analysis at the end though (from more than one game). Will try that next time. Thanks for checking out the vid!
