  • We can analyze all we want about why GFR is not inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. The 60. Is it because they were an "American Band" that played with such soul and energy? Let's just be grateful that we can enjoy these live performances. Peace.

  • Im a hooked on Grand Funk! Love em always!!

  • The R@Rhof should rename itself the pop entertainment hof then the rest of us can have a real shrine for true r@r artists like grand funk instead of abba, madonna and their ilk!

  • mel schacher and don brewer might be the best rhythm section ever. that grand funk railroad isn't in the hall of fame is evidence of system fail. and a badge of honor.

  • I've watched about 50 of these freakin GFR videos this weekend and am really just amazed how good the vocal are live - the guy could really, really, sing. Don on harmonies was also really, really good. Very serious players live, no screwing around. Impressive. And so much fun to rediscover (I was 8 in 1972 but the folks gave me the albums!! Thanks dad lol)

  • fuck rolling stone they lost my money when they put lady ga ga on there cover this month and when they inducted that whore madona Im glad the Sex Pistols told them to fuck off and didnt fly over to America to accept the award

  • I'm hooked on them!

  • I know GFR would like to get into the RARHOF, so I support that, But I were them I wold say FUNK the RARHOF :)

  • I NEVER knew that Mel played Harmonica, I ALWAYS thought that Farner did all of the Harmonica stuff! WOW! You go Mel!!

  • Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone tries to rule the world of rock. If he codemns a musician or group, other critics follow.

This is why Grand Funk Railroad is NOT in The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

The people love Grand Funk Railroad, making them the first rock Band to earn 10 consecutive platinum albums.

Critics (Rolling Stone) continue to condemn them in spite.

Pretty crappy deal if you ask me to go against "The People."

  • Therefore the petition link above.

Every Funk Fan please sign. It only takes a minute.

  • One critic in the newspaper back in 70's was that G.F. are playing the dirtyest rock of all times but I think that this can be written only by a lowinteligent brain...GREATEST BAND EVER

  • look at the crowds at every concert Grand Funk played and there not in the rock and roll hall of fame they shoulda been the first band ever inducted hands down

    Just Like That!!!!!!

  • GFR, Fantastic band and DON is very underated. The best Rock'n'Roll drummer Alive!!!!

  • wow! I didnt know Mel played harmonica. This song is reveals how and why GFR can do funk...I guess the combo is rock and funk..and who does it better?

and...thanks Packed for another great one!

  • Watching this in high quality! Great stuff, PackedFunk! Hooked on Funk!

  • Oh..I'm a 'hooked on love" everytime I watch this clip. Just another "grand" Grand Funk Railroad song!

  • slam this tight lil ass =]? W

  • classic american rock,70s style..awesome video.

  • Yea, Still pretty blow away by seeing MEL on harmonica! I thought that Mark handled that gig. WOW!

  • So talented. They were a great band.

  • Helen is one of the oldest GFRxR fans being in her 80's. God Bless you dear lady.

  • GFRxR have 33 gold & platinum ALBUMS earned & many gold & platinum singles. They also still hold many ticket sales records, including the all-time record at Shea Stadium. NOT being recognized by The R&R HOF is a bitch-slap to every fan who bought one of those albums or concert tickets. Funk Fans, how does it feel to be bitch-slapped by Jann Wenner every year that GFRxR is left-out of R&RHOF?

Sign the petition in this video's description.

  • Oh.. the early 70's and Grand Funk. Best era ever! These guys were at the TOP of their game. GFR rules!

  • If y'all dig this channel....please support GFRxR by #1..signing the petition, #2 Buy tickets to Mark Farners Live shows, #3 Purchase Grand Funks old albums...."Closer to Home"..."The Red Album"...and the "LIVE ALBUM 1970". I'm tellin' ya, you'll be groovin' to the 'Get Down' and understanding what it was all about. It was heavy. Very, very heavy. Thank you, and....FUNK ON!

  • Let us not forget GFR still tours- well, Mel and Don- I just saw them last weekend. I live in Michigan, and still have not been able to catch Mark. (NRG) A girl can still hope, though. I signed the petition, and am anxiously awaiting my package from Barnes and Noble- 30 years of Funk. Can't wait to crank it out!!!!!

  • how great this band was !!!!......thanks tj for putting the video on.........peace ..steven

  • Anyone got a clue what guitar Farner's playing?

  • It's a Micro-Frets Signature. One of the coolest guitars ever. Check out the history online.

  • Thanx man. Mark always used unique guitars, and I also wondered what this particular brand guitar was. I love the Gibson he used on the '75 World Tour. It's a quite in demand guitar from what I understand. I know he's into Parker Flys, but I would love to see him pull that Gibson sunburst outta mothballs. Great sounding guitar!!! Rock it people, let's all be good to each other brother's & sisters.

  • E.PLUIBUS FUNK (1972) "LONELINESS"

"Loneliness cries deep from my soul...Keeps tryin' to tell me about the world growing so cold." - Mark Farner

  • Awesome performance!! Why don't they release it on DVD ? Thanks for posting!! I was in high school when this came out. Love the raw energy!!! sweet!!!

  • Well all you Funk Fans, that is one million views of our Grand Funk Railroad videos. Thanks to everyone who has supported our efforts with the petition in the video's description. This is not only The People's Band, This is America's Band! Here's to the next one million views & God Bless Everyone!!! T.J.

  • i'm bouncing around watching all of them. man, i'm goin way back. good job tj and THANKS! saw them at WVU 71-72.

  • Another great vid from Don Kirshner's In Concert. Mel's bass is so ballsy. Mark's playing is at a peak at this concert. Don's always good as is Craig. This probably hasn't come out cause Don Kirshner wants a lot of money.

  • R.I.P. - Charles Harden Holley (Buddy Holly)

Febuary 3, 1959 (The Day The Music Died)

May God Bless Buddy's brother Travis Holley signed our petition & I will forever remember.

  • Its sad just thinking about Buddy.Thnx Travis for signing the petition, your Brother will always be #1.

  • Buddy Holley...recently sat down and listened to some Buddy....Wow! Good shit man!

  • My daughter sent me this today.

    That's great muxic! Thank you.

  • Hey FUNK MOMMA! I agree, that IS great muxic! MUXIC? Sweet Lady, you can call it ANYTHING you like! Stay Well!

  • Hi,fattdaddy,Just got through watching some kind of wonderful. What music!!!!!!!!!! I lost my best friend and husband of 62 years last month, so it has been pretty hard on Becky and myself, and this music makes me forget. Go Grand Funk and may your music live forever.Funk Momma

  • I REALLY LIKE this version. I like the jam part, then this great song! Thanks again, PackedFunk. You added this clip on my birthday! Nice present!

Best rock/funk band in MY time!

  • Wow! Great stuff! Makes me want to get a red sparkle Ludwig kit! What a talented and timeless band, and Don Brewer is one of my faves too!

  • awesome

  • Those West heads are the MotenGator line and Dave West said those were the worst amps he ever made.lol Great footage packedfunk,Brewer as usual kicking ass and taking names.Wish you could find the whole concert,I wish they would release the In concert videos.

  • Well those (West) worst amps he ever made gave Grand Funk the best tone they ever had. I think you understand tone from comments Ive seen . The tone Mark gets today from his Parker and Peavy amps are so thin nothing like this tone. Thats one of the reasons I m not a fan of NRG there tone is like any bar band you see anywhere, most people are tone deaf , I'm not and Grand Funk had tone.GFR music is very simple but it groves and it needs big tone to move you , which Grand Funk had.

  • The MotenGator heads were solid state, when GFR made it big they were tube heads and they sounded like nothing else. But i hear what you are saying Bro.They started using the solid state heads in the early 70's for a short time, today Mark still uses a Bogen amp with a west 2x15 cab on the side, the PV stuff is for looks.I have known Mark since 1970 and believe me He does not lie.

  • Thanks for your response.Mark sound seem thin with NRG compare to GFR. I hear a much thinner tone with NRG.Example Are You Ready GFR huge sound and NRG a very thin sound. The song is simple one chord move back in forth basically & needs big tone, not putting anyone down I just don't think anyone tells Mark.I think Don & Mel was his equal & challenged each other,NRG seems to please him put when your band tries to please music suffers.GFR best live band I witnessed.NRG not even close,my opinion.

  • I met GFR on the tour with Freddie King,I work that tour for a month & they were all cool, even Don,yes guys even Don lol.Don and Mel I feel don't get enough credit,Mark plays one G minor for 20 min. & Don and Mel working there asses off ripping it up filling all the pockets, not putting down Mark,I like him to. Comes down to chemistry & no tubes, guitars,Bruce,Max,or Nrg going to replace chemistry, tubes do help:)I'm a music teacher n Argentina & I see things different, together they bring the best.

  • I still get goose bumps watching this - this is great! The energy this band has is amazing No wonder they are my favorite band - Wish I could have saw this live though - I was only 11 yrs old! Thanks for all these great videos -

  • Never to young Brother to be a Funk fan or attend a concert.

  • Love it!!! I watched this on a console TV during a tornado warning and Mel's Bass out boomed the thunder. And I couldn't ake my eyes off Mark Farner long enough to go in the basement...Yeah, I'm Happily Hooked On Love...Funk too!

    Mel on harp~~Too Cool.

  • We took the headphone jack out of the TV into one of my Guitar amps and cranked it up,you could hear it all the way to the beach.

  • For those of us who were blessed to be born in this unequalled decade of musical creativity, Grand Funk will always be remembered for their supremacy of the 70s' rock legends.

  • thanks for the post dude!!!

    Mel is awesome!!

  • Yeah what a great song, never knew Mel played the harmonica I always thought it was Mark

  • Yea, me either. Both were great multi instrument players!

  • Mel never played harmonica in GFR, Mark always played it. Mel never sang, never wrote a song (except Mark say's allright)...it's was enough his incredible bass alone!

  • Over 800,000 views on our Grand Funk Railroad videos. This is still The People's Band. Everyone please sign our petition in video's full descrption! It only takes seconds to do & please leave a comment!

  • As with all my GFRxR videos, there is a link to a petition in this video's description to induct Mark Farner & Grand Funk ailroad into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

  • People have asked for the cool intro to this great live performance, so I included the intro in this version with Mel jammin' a cool harp.
