  • What a pity! The years took a toll on me. My traveling days are over, but would give anything to hear and ride .on one of those boats. I crossed the Missippi many times, but the idea to stop and look never entered my mind. Thanks for the vid. I enjoyed it.

  • Pretty good, though the calliope itself seems inherently unable to be quite in tune.

The melody is "Basin Street Blues" by New Orleans composer Spencer Williams.

  • and may I say that it is still a great place to visit!!

  • You can hear this thing from about two miles away .. perhaps more ...

  • More. At least 4 miles. I use to sit on my porch in Gentilly and listen.

  • what an ignorant bigot that fails to consider the facts:

    1) Nagin re-elected and wants to raise taxes again

    2) No republicans in council either

Bush & Texas did more for NOLA than Sharpton and Blue states - you simply will not dispute this.

  • This lady is an awesome calliope player! We were in N.O. for 3 weeks right before Katrina and heard the Natchez calliope every morning. We were so glad we got to experience the great city before the NeoCons gentrified it. The African-Americans MADE N.O. what it was with their soul and spirit, and it will never be the same. It was a wonderful, magical, romantic place where anyone could have a great time, even if on a budget.
