Thats right! jimi hendrix is still the greatest guitarist of all time! As voted again by rolling stone magazine 11/23/2011. So all you EVH fans SUCK IT!
Jimi Hendrix ist und bleibt einfach die absolute Rocklegende so ein typ wie den wird es nie wieder geben, und die Hymne "star spangled banner" o amn als ich das hörte dachte ich, ich falle um!!!!!!
Jimi still rules in innovation on the fretboard and far out sounds! Thankfully he changed the way guitar would be played forever in almost every genre of music.
I feel honored to have seen him at the Filmore East in New York, which I consider to be his best performance. It still blows me away to this day. Great upload!!
Number one on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the top 100 guitarists of all time...Solos like the one in Stone Free just shows how amazing Jimi's stuff had become in the last months he was with us. For other amazing sounds, check out his performance at KB Hallen Copenhagen, Sept 3rd, guitar tone and string bends from heaven!
Oh my God !!!!!!! that was some performance ! I got to see Jimmi nine times in all, in England between 67 and 70 [ nice to see comments from other old guys ] and although they were all great they were also quite chaotic until he found his groove, then almost eerily magical. Don't think I've ever heard such a strong vocal from him as on this clip, and Mich's drumming is superb. fabulous.
I was also there at Byron, working for security - I had the fun task of clearing the crowd for the band trucks to get equipment to the stage, and once they set up I could stand on stage side and listen.. for July 4th, I got the day off and spent it in front of the sound booth about 100 ft from the front, right in the middle..
I got free tickets, free food, and got paid!! BEST WEEK OF MY LIFE!! -- JOSE S
I was also at this festival and ended up on stage to Jimi's right. I swear at about 1:20 ,that is my shadowy face with the headband on. after the show I got back stage and actually got to meet Jimi!!! we talked for about 15-20 minutes until he had to go and they tossed my butt out. I will never forget that night! Long Live the Music
I am beyond THRILLED to see this again.... My friends and I were right in the front for the whole festival and Atlanta Pop 1970 remains one of my favorite memories...THANK YOU FOR POSTING this----
I have told so many people about his playing this very performance at midnight under the fireworks on JULY 4th... God Bless America and we miss you Jimi!
Live not to far from where this was. There is a golf driving range where the raceway was.The track is still there but they try to discourage people from walking to where the field where the audience was.Unfortunately like everywhere else there is alot of urban sprawl around that area now.
@MrJacMac1986 Very interesting to know what it's like now! In the complete film (the one that was sold on videotape), there is footage of the place where the festival happened (the audience during daytime etc), I wonder if you would recognize the spots!
@dummytree , No you would not recognize the place at all. They made a law after that there could never be another festival there. It got really wild. All the police left and just let the crowd have the place. They were outnumbered. Alot of folks showed up from all over the country and no tickets available. They crashed the gates. I was about 50ft back when they did. Never saw another cop after that just lots of naked bodies.
@maryjwp Wow, thanks. iI must have been crazy. I think I remember reading somewhere that there were actually more people at the Atlanta (Byron) Pop Fest than at Woodstock for example.I always use this festival as a proof there were many other festivals after Altamont '69 (you always read the "it was the last one" bullcrap. It was awful though). My first Hendrix booteg ever was this show. The stage looks pretty high (no pun intended), was it the case? There are no large shots in this footage.
