  • holy shit this is a big band

  • It's very unbalanced and the first moment was alitle fast because people were rushing. The band is too big so it's harder to perfect such a complicated piece with so many Asians to teach :P lol

  • theres jackie chan! no theres jackie chan!, noo theres jackie chan!! no theres jackie chan!

  • Yall suck dick at this song.

  • To everyone who says this is too fast:

For this arrangement, maybe... But when you get a chance, listen to an original Alan Lomax field recording of a folk singer singing the original source material. No doubt the conductor has done his/her research and chose to interpret it in this way.

All opinions being valid, there's no right or wrong in this case -- the beauty of music.

  • Can anybody help me on the 2nd movt. I have trouble when I supposed to come in a 126. I play 1st oboe XP...

  • Look up Cajun Folk Songs Unalaska. It's terrible.

  • They Fucked up this one I'm only in 8th grade and play five instruments we played this way better. La Belle et le Capitaine is not that fast. Belle was better though Low brass and mid-high wood wind needs work

  • i kind of liked the first movement fast.

  • oh danng this video is still up? andrew still kicks ass with his sax skills. Im like a senior and i remember playing this back in intermediate it. Damn. Miss band was fun while it lasted (:

  • The first song is extremely fast and the alto sax solo isn't phrased right..it sounds very odd..otherwise it's alright..

  • is everyone in this band asian? no offence to anyone who is.

  • this is way to fast

  • This is good, but the whole first movement is entirely too fast. It takes away from the nuance of the first peice.

  • the first movement is too fast

  • Ya,, its like too fast

  • we played this over the weekend at an all stars band, and we only had it for two days, and it sounded a lot better. im hoping its just a lousy audio thing.

  • we r playing this again this year... thats so weird

  • ok seriously nice song my band is playing this too but that part at 3:52 SERIOUSLY creeps me out lol

  • LOL, power of the minor(pausibly diminished) Chord, lol

  • Holy crap, the solo was played WAY too fast and the song itself was played to fast. Cajun Folk Songs is a piece where you should draw out almost every single (hopefully beautiful) note that you play.

  • I remember playing this song my freshmen year. the Symphonic band was pretty big and there were only 4 clarinets!!

1 on first, 1 on second, and 2 on third. You can no idea on how louder we had to play. its sucked!

  • the solo was WAY to fast

  • they are all asian. and there is alot of clarinets..wow. good job though. i havent actually played this song but i helped set up the stage at our festival and i heard it

  • yea first movement was way too fast. i love this song though

  • we played this song to but not to be offensive but iminbandbjelous says they took it too fast well thats just his/her opinon music is interprative soo diff pplread it diff ways... i think thye nailed it

  • i agree with iminbandbjealous

  • I do too.

  • I love this song. But they took the 1st movement way way too fast. my conductor added a grand pause after the sax solo ( with the clarinets) and it sounds wicked. and it kind of seems like the flutes arn't together during the 1st. But I still love this song. We played today during school and it's stuck in my head. Thats why I listening to it. hehe

  • first movement definitely too fast. sax solo is too jazzy. when entire band comes it it is not together. woodwind tones not the best. i played this in 8th grade and am in 10th now. revisited this piece last week actually. magnificient piece if played properly.

  • first movement was much too fast. I played this in 8th grade. I MISS IT SO MUCH!

  • Uhm, like everyone else said, The first movvement was way too fast and didn't like, catch the tone at all. And in the second movement, it might be just the video, but it just sounded really messy to me. And the clarinets....DAMN! Hahahah. I really like this piece, though. I played it this year, and I'm a freshman clarinet player. Hahahah,, I thought it was pretty cool. (: DDHS rulessssss!

  • The first movement is also like 3 times faster then what it should be...

  • Definately true. Its feels so double time.

  • crap i'm first chair clarinet... sounding like that will be hard....

  • lmao at 3:10 it really is an army

  • holy freggin army of clarinets!!!!

    O_O

    thats unnatural!!

  • A single trumpet player can take about 13-14 clarinet players, so no worries there.

  • thats a bit offensive...

whoever you are, dont tell that to chowder... he'll get all cocky(like he isnt already!)... but... wow. lots of clarinets. we have...6.

  • We're playing this for our festival and I'm first chair clarinet...which means... I have the duet with the saxophone. -dies- XD

  • its not really a duet....

  • well according to our band director it is. :P

  • Um teh first movement was supposed ot be Quater note =62 soooo...way to fast...lolz

and teh slow dsedction at liek 84 of teh second movement wa supposed to be 88...

  • *the

    *to

    *quarter

    *so

    *the

    *section

    *the

    *was

  • well im sorry. gosh. lol

  • My band is playing this for our concert in 4 days!

  • the first movement was rushed especially the sax solo.

  • first movement was slightly rushed, to say the least, thus weakening the point of the also sax solo. really rushed performance.

  • no offense but our saxaphone (*cough KEISUKE cough*) sounded better... at the solo...

  • this is good..

    first movement was way fast..

so it kind of lost the pretty and mysterious effect..

    but good.

    whurrrddupp with all the asians?

    xD

  • WHOAAAA SO MANY...

  • Oh no Low Brass cut out in the start of the second movement.

  • High brass is many times greater than the sum of all low brass multiplied together. Deal with it.

    :D

  • Oh no you are one of those people in high brass denial...

    *sigh*

  • I play trumpet and tuba, so it doesn't matter for me!

  • Haha you're funny. If it wasn't for the low brass, you would be nowhere. No low brass is like trying to sit down without a chair. . or a floor for that matter. Why are upper brass players arrogant like this?

  • If it weren't for high brass, there was be no butt to sit down on, nor even a body for that matter. So it is impossible to even think about the concept of existence much less the concept of sitting down without high brass. Low brass is nothing without us.

  • is this like a chinese peoples school

  • my school is doing this for a uil contest!!!!!!

  • my band is too its coming out pretty good

  • WAY TOO FAST!!!!!

  • did this last year!

  • My bands doing this!

We sounbd really good and I rock the Baritone! :)

(p.s. like everyone else said..the 1st movement was to fast.)

  • holy crap this school is rich...all the trombone players have trigger horns! haha

  • beginning is way too fast, like the sax solo but slow down

  • ik right. its supposed to be really soft and pretty

  • slow it down its going to be messed up r band played this and we got straight ones

  • and also big mistake having the trombones playing the flute ques...that was stupid..although they did get a great sound

  • HOLY CRAP..........SLOW THE FIRST MOVEMENT DOWN...in the first part of the sax solo..let him keep the tempo

  • I played this in...my second year high school I think.

I didn't really like the first movement too much.

But I rocked the flute part of the second movement xD

  • my concert band is doing this and we sound sweet!!!!!!

  • slow it down a LOT

  • my middle school band is playing this :D

so far, we're pretty much owning the second movement. the first movement, like this one, not so much. o.O

  • wow..i didnt play this till high school...actually this past year and it was a little tough to learn the timing as a freshman trombone first chair...but once you get it...you cant lose it

  • I freaking love this song!! We're playing it this year. And holy crap, they're playing this song too fast, the heck's wrong with them!? D=<

  • i know, XD lol

  • man bruh, i played this 2 years ago in 8th grade and i am playing it now as a sophomore, beastly song when u can get the mood of the first piece set exactly and get parts of the low brass to really give it all they got at some parts that is just them and that dark depth of wut they play can just be amazing if played right

  • we played this song its a good song but it sorta sucked in our band cuz we didnt have enough people =(

  • We're playing this, too. I love this songgg.

    Trumpet playerrr, here! Whooo.

  • I played this in band,

I was the first of two trombonists,

But I rocked the shit out of it.

    Great song.

  • :O our middle school band is playing this!

    I just love it!!!!!
