Hey I'm putting the powermax turbo on my 04 and was thinking about doing stacks but with the crazy whistle that turbo gives I think it might get annoying, how do u like urs with the stacks since the 03 turbo is close to the sound the powermax produces

Take the cat and muffler off and replace it with a straight pipe. You can check out my videos if you want, I have a 03 6.0 with a 4" turbo back straight pipe MBRP exhaust.

@DieselnDrums the 03 turbine wheel is larger in diameter and has 10 blades, the late 04 to 07 turbos have a 13 blade turbine wheel thats smaller and alot more quiet

@44skillet every year truck has 9 movable turbine vanes, not to be confused with the blade count on the turbine wheel. ive yet to see a 15 blade turbine wheel out of any year 6.0, my father and i run a powerstroke speciality shop. ive had a ton of every year 6.0 turbo apart for cleaning & repairs. from my experience late 04 up have all been 13 blade wheels, oem, reman or new from ford. if there are 15 blade wheels out there theyre few and far between.

03 to 04.5 = larger 10 blade turbine wheel

04.5 to 07 = smaller 13 blade turbine wheel.

03 to 04.5 also have longer and wider vanes in the turbine housing and use a unison ring different from 04.5+

the 04.5-07 vanes are shorter and narrower, the pivot point is closer to the turbine wheel. the wheel and vane changes for 04.5+ were primarily to increase low rpm exhaust back pressure. the increased pressure differential (EP vs MGP) allowed ford to increase EGR flow at low rpm

@SICKSOJOE . I'll be damn I didn't know that. I do remember when ford changed these on these trucks. We seemed to get 2 more lbs of boost on a 10 vane charger, although they seemed more problematic . The 13's seemed to spool faster. I could have swore 05-07 had 15 vanes but I believe you when you say they don't. I've only had a handful of chargers apart.

You just order a straight pipe exhaust kit from a exhaust company, for example, MBRP, Sliverline, etc etc and you put in it on yourself that's what alot of people do. It takes about 1-2 hours to install it.

@Dieselboy350 extremely loud for sure! i used my wds to set idle at 1200rpm and the vgt pid to open and close the vanes, the whistle got so loud the camera stopped picking up the sound at times lol. i actually just installed the 03 turbo from that truck into my 06, i have a 5" straight pipe, whistle sounds very good and pronounced. i will try to get a video soon.
