  • Needs some bending dude.

  • Man chill out on listen to what you're at!

Definitely talent under there somewhere but the playing is very erratic and unmusical at times. Listen to sapphire blue by Larry Carlton and you'll get my meaning

  • @jamesm5744 Yeah, I know what you mean, but since the video was recorded I'm only playing quarter notes these days... ;)

Sapphire Blue is a great album, have listened to it alot of times, Larry is one of my absolute no 1 players!

I wasn't exactly going for the Carlton vibe here, more like Yngwie vibes... hehehe!

    Thanks for watching! :)

  • @CedricIII The world needs talented players like yourself to abandon the Yngwie ways though!

The feel and soul is there though that's the main thing and the sound is great too..

I'll look forward to some more vids..

  • @jamesm5744 Did you watch my newer vids? I'm not into Yngwie that much as you may think. In fact, I almost never play that kind of stuff. I'm about to make a new video soon, and I'll have in mind what you said. Stay tuned!

    / Fredric

  • Fantastic playing!

could you please tell me the model of this strat,

the black pickguard and white body is wonderful!

    thank you!!

  • @TheMemphisFourband I don't know what model it is, just that it's a Mexican made Fender built 1990. Originally it had a turtoise pickguard with white crappy single coils...

In this video it's a couple of DiMarzio HS-3's in it which I no longer owns.

Right now there is a set of EMG SA's with a pearl white pick guards.

This guitar has had almost EVERY pickup there is in it, LOL!

    Thanks!

  • can you tell me what your settings are on the amp?

  • @bricktownrules Unfortunately not, because I don't remember. Haven't got this amp anymore either, but I believe I usually set all three eq-knobs full clockwise and from that point decresed what I thought it was too much of. Makes the amp sound differently than it would if you start from 12 o'clock, plus you also get higher volume in the end.

  • MAN YOU GOT SOME SOUL IN YOU,

YOU SHOLD BE PLAYING IN NEW ORLEANS

  • no whammy bar? u cant play this song without a whammy!!!

  • @allah211 pretty sure he just did.

  • great chops and sound!

  • where do you get your backtrax with the rhythm and voice only or do you have a device that does it? id love to know. i play this song all the time and id like to have the music to play along to. thanks.

  • I don't remember where I got this backing track, probably from one of my guitar forums... I think I still got it, but I'm not sure.

  • i love strats but i wish they made one with a box telecaster bridge... i fucking loooove those.

  • Dude that was killer. One of the 1st videos I could watch the whole way thru in a long time.....just to see what you'd do next. Killer!

  • Thanks Brian!

  • pretty good voice

  • GO on Man , great playing , great sounding !!

  • its like a little yngwie blues but i liked this

keep it up ur very good!!

  • superb playing. is this straight into the amp no pedals/effects?

  • Guitar --> Amp. That's it.

    Thanks!

  • Man your strat looks just like the one jason becker had!

  • Do you have a Video which yo play Chords

    ?

  • Awesome, what channel/settings on the JSX did you use here?

  • I believe it was the crunch channel pretty much all the way, but you can see me switching to the Ultra channel too, the footswitch is on top of the amp.

I don't recall what settings I had there, but I know what I use now... taken from my memory (the amp is at the rehearsal) P5, R5, (crunch) T9, M8, B9 FS-on G6-7, about the same settings for the ultra channel. The clean ch, I don't remember, it depends, but the mid is all the way up..

  • Thanks man, what kind of Marshall cab is that you're playing through?

  • It's a 1936 with two Celestion G12T-75.

    Sold the cab...

  • Cedric...What scales are you playing?

  • Some pentatonic scales.. some other scales... I don't know really, I mean - major and minor scales are easy, but what the rest is called... no idea. But it works anyway for me. The "problem" is that I don't think in terms of scales so calling them names are useless for me.

  • i cant wait til i get to that point that you are at..ive watched all of your vids and subscribed and i think your awesome dude

  • Great! Thanks!

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • I got to play the lenny copy that goes for $13,000 at guitar center and It had 13's on it and really high action...it was very hard to play.

  • Deadly chops man! Did SRV really use

.13's for his bottom string??? I heard he did....

  • Don't know, but that's what I've heard too. I can't imagine how bending strings with that string gauge would feel... ouch! Thanks!

  • What gauge do you use? Sounds like .10's at least... Nice and bitey

  • I think it's 10's in the video, but I think it's tuned down ½ step, so the tension from the strings feels more like 9's, but with the "meatiness" from the 10's.

Since a year or so I only use 9's to save my fingertips...

  • Great job friend.

  • wonderful brotha!

Carry on, and the JSX tone is really KILLER, I have mine being biased at the shop with some GT 6L6's so maybe Ill do a clip, although my Malmsteen BLUE version is recorded with the JSX and EL34's stock.

    Nice vid!!

  • nice one man

    keep on rockin'

  • dude that was sweet good cover u really went with ur own version

  • thats how its supposed to be... sick version man

  • Yeah! Kill, kill! :D

  • Epic failure you silly cunt :)

  • Resonance*

  • Well, I always stick to the "low channel volume, high master volume" rule! I have not tried the treble and bass the whole way up..My bass is usually about 3oclock and treble about 12/1'o clock. I tend to like a fair amount of mids too. But I will try out your way too..!

How do you configure your presence/reasonance settings? Although, based on experience, I reckon it depends a lot on the cab..and speakers.

And fat switches??? On/off? They seem to do nothing if the masters turned up!

  • The fat switches... yeah, some days they are on and some days they are off. I think they make a lead sound a bit more saturated with harmonics, but on the other hand the bass gets a little more "spongy", less tight bass.

Presence and Resonance are mostly att 12 o'clock, depending on which guitar I use and the volumes that I'm playing on. At low volumes I think it sounds better to have P/R high.

  • Can you please do another JSX video!? :D

  • Yeah, I really should. Thinking of tweaking the eq and stuff while playing, just to show how effective they are. I'll try to remember this the next time.

  • You reeeeally should good sir. I have the same amp, but still it's always great to steal some of the EQ Ideas from people such as yourself - that know what they're doing with a decent amp!

If I hear one more twat buying a great amp and then systematically setting about to make it sound shit, I think I'll go on a long overdue murderous rampage.

We have much to discuss :) lol

  • One thing you can try is to turn treble and bass all the way up, and the middle eq as far as your ears allow... sounds much better IMO.

Also try to have channel volume low and master volume att three o'clock. Different sound there too.

If you turn the clean channel's volume all the way up, you could actually get it to crack up a little bit. But be really carful to turn down the master before you do so...

  • thats fcking sick! love.

  • No it isn't... or maybe a little..

    Love back! ;)

  • what a great tone you have man , but I guess it has a lot to do with your playing style

    wich I dig A LOT

    congrats

  • Thanks! Yeah, isn't it funny that six strings can sound so different?

  • hey wat pickups are in that strat. DAMN!!!

  • Hahaha, it's the same guitar, but with different pickups.

In this case it was to Dimarzio HS-3 and a Texas Special in the middle position.

It got a sweet position 2 and 4 in this configuration, I miss the pickups a bit, but they were a bit too low output for me.

I tried alot of different pickups in this guitar, stock, two Texas specials and a dimarzio Fred, same but with a tonezone, two gibson burstbucker pro's, what u see in the vid and now with EMG SA's...

  • My father said you are very good.xD

    He´s very good,too.

And he has a Fender Made in USA.

  • Sorry I mean Strat.^^

  • Yes it is. It's made in 1990. Don't know which model it is or so, but I like it alot.

If you search well and try a lot of mexican strats you will find that they often varies in quality and feel, so try as many as you can and pick the one that feels the best!

    Cheap isn't always bad...

  • Is that Srat made in mexican?

  • Amazing guitar skillz buddy.

    You're awsome.

    Peace

  • Yeah, Peace!

  • really gud playin mate how many guitars do you hav?

  • Thanks!

I think I've got 17 guitars of which 11 is electric.

  • really nice

  • wow. :( this vid makes me so sad. some1 msg me!! xD Q

  • I like the Stevie version better, but this still kicks ass

  • good call

besides no one can pull this song off like SRV what im trying to say is

who the fuck doesnt like SRV s version better

not for just this video but for every cover

oh and the really fast metal style of playing that you did following some chords ruined this video

  • Fan vad folk ska till å vara seriösa.... XD

  • you've got the blues man that's for sure!

    great performance here!

    thanks for sharing

  • awesome phrasing and bends

  • Thanks man!

  • Dude, I got a jsx and a good strat. The jsx has great tone, but u seem to get a really great blues tone on it. What do you do to get that?

    Great playing!!!

  • Thanks. It was pure luck! ;)

Don't know, but I always crank the mastervolume and keep the channel volumes at a low setting, think it sounds much better.

Another thing you might wanna try is to set the EQ all the way up and, maybe roll of some mids. It sounds way different that way, plus you won't have any problem with enough volume anymore!

Apart from that all I do is that I use the volume control on the guitar.

The JSX isn't a blues amp, but sometimes you get lucky! I've also got KT77's...

  • Awesome, dude! I'll try that, thanks! Ya it's not but u seem to get a good one from it. So you're sayin to push the treble and bass all the way up?

  • Yeah, normally you would start from a 12 o'clock position on the eq and tweak from there, but if you start from 10/10 position on treble, mid and bass the preamp section has to work harder in some way, which IMO sounds better.

So, start with the eq all the way up, and if you think the sound is too bright you turn down the treble. Too much bass? Turn down the bass. There won't be too little mid though. ;)

  • Thanks, dude.

  • FUCK ME !!!!!!!!

  • man you have a gilmour face !

    keep rocking .

  • Er dette med KT77?? Ikke KT88?

  • Nej, detta är innan rörbytet. I videon sitter 4 st Svetlana 6L6'or "winged-C-logo".

  • you are one of the best guitar players of the world dude

  • Yeah right...

    Thanks!

  • Hum ... The best play with taste ALL the time

  • Great play!!!

  • Awsome! i love your tone... god bless peavey!

  • Hey man! You got the 'fat' switches on with either the crunch/ultra channels? Cheers! Fucking sublime playing also.

  • Thank you!

I really don't remember if I had the fat switches on or off, but generally I don't, but the HS-3's lacks a bit bass in my opinion so I might have had the switches on...

Sorry for that non helping answer! *lol*

  • Haha, nah thats okay man! I love the sound of them on! But for playing gigs with a full band etc i sometimes worry it gets just a tad muddy with not enough clarity as my EQ settings are quite bottom heavy as it is. And im using a les paul with emgs! :p Might try having them off! Thanks, and great playing again!

  • wow man you've got it all!

  • That's kind of you! Thanks for watching and subscribing to my videos! :)

  • its an absolute pleasure to watch such a great guitarist! rock on

  • what pickups do you have in your strat?

  • There are (were - I sold them) two DiMarzio HS-3's in the neck and bridge position and one Texas Special in the middle position.

  • thats suprised me to be honest,i thought they might of been texas specails or something similer, they really nail that srv sound, aint these pickups for shred type stuff normally, can i ask when played very clean do the dimarzio,s still have that strat bell like tine and woodyness? cheers :0)

  • The first time you try a HS-3, you will be surprised by the low output it has.

I think the Texas Special is hotter than the HS-3...

They work actually fine for clean stuff too, but are a bit "hard worked" if you know what I mean? They doesn't make the guitar easier to play, it's actually the opposite.

And you might need an overdrive or boost pedal, because of the low gain.

With the same settings you will get less gain than with for example a Les Paul.

They were too low ouput for me anyway.

  • i got that guitar 2day

  • Hey dude do you happen to have any recordings with your JSX? I want to hear it's tone through proper audio recording, because I'm considering buying one!

    Also, nice riffage man!

  • Thanks!

No, haven't recorded anything with the JSX, but I will try it soon. I just built an Isocab and am sure gonna try it with the JSX.

With a dynamic microphone you have to turn the amp up to get the juice out of the speaker, and so far I couldn't do it...

But you'd better try it IRL before buying a JSX. Many people get disappointed with the JSX, because they thought it sounded like something else.

The tone I got in this video was probably just luck... ;)

  • Oh yeah dude for sure, I've always tried out every amp countless times before I bought them. I hope that tone wasn't luck!

  • I didn't try it my self and thought it would be like a 5150 but with a third clean channel, but I was so wrong, and it has taken me a couple of years getting used to that beefy tone, but now I love it.

One thing that you should look for and that is what brand there are on the tubes, cause the first amps that were shipped had only Electro Harmonix tubes and they really suck. I've replaced all tubes with JJ tubes, which is what they ship them with today from factory, and now it rocks!

  • Yeah... one more thing... I have tried 6L6's in the power tube section and it helped gettig rid of that nasty mid range, but not as much as chaning the preamp tubes.

Now I have JJ KT77 in the power amp, which sounds like a mix of 6L6 and EL34. You might wanna try that too!

    Good luck!

    / Fredric

  • Mycket bra spelat ;)

Din think pink är underbar btw

  • Åh, tack! :)

  • Smooth!

  • i love that amp.

  • very very very very nice !!! you rock !!!! thanks for this posting !!!

  • No problema!

    Thanks!

  • That was really awesome. You are very talented. Will you tell me where you got the backing track?

  • I wish I coulda seen the end of the video but you melted my face off !!! Badass playing.

  • *lol* ...melted... hahaha!

    Thanks!

  • You kind of look like Chandler of friends..

    Good playing also.

  • Chandler? Well, I don't think I ever saw a Friends program, so I couldn't tell the similarity...

    HOPE HE'S GOOD LOOKING!!! *lol*

    Thanks!

  • Awesome like the all your videos! I have that backing track too :)

  • Thanks! Yes, it's a fun backing track, makes you pause alot and think of your next "move" which is a good thing for me who tend to play a little too much all the time! ;)

  • looked like you were in the zone dude. the fingers were flying.

  • Hey man what kind of pickups are you using?

  • In this video I used two DiMarzio HS-3's in the neck and bridge position. In the middle position there is a Texas Special.

I don't own those pickups anymore. Now there is a set of EMG SA's which can be seen and heard in my latest video.

    Thanks for watching my vid!

  • Thanks. Just curious, why did you switch to EMG's?

  • Just curiousity...

Plus - NO HUM! I like the sound of single coil pickups but I can't stand the hum they causes, so the EMG's is perfect.

They give a slightly different sound than ordinary sc pups, but I really like that sound.

I also got EMG's on my Luke and on another strat.

  • Thanks. I thought the Dimarzio HS-3's were were noiseless, but I'm sure the EMG's are quieter. I have been thinking for awhile of getting EMG's Steve Lukather set for my Strat. Although being that my Strat doesn't have a compartment to keep the battery I wondering if it will be a hassle to keep changing it from inside the pickquard.

  • No, it's easy. Just remove the screws and gently lift the pick guard up. You should be able to change it without removing the strings.

On the other hand, the 9V battery will last for more than a year at a time, so you won't have to do this very often.

  • Thanks. Where does the battery go under the pickquard, and how many screws do you need to take off to change? Also some people tell me that the battery only last a couple of months others have told me a year. I know it depends on how much you play and if you leave the guitar plugged in when it's off, but what has been your experience?

  • I don't even remember when I changed batteries, but I do know that I changed them before they ran out of power.

The battery fits perfectly under the volume and tone pot compartment and I think when you take a closer look at it, you will remove just as many screws as it takes to lift the pick guard. But if you are unsure - then remove all the screws below the strings.

About the battery life: it's really no problem, just bring an extra battery and a screwdriver wherever you go and you'll be safe

  • Thanks Man. How do you like the new EMG's on your Strat compared to your old pickups?

  • Well, let me put it this way: It's like a good marriage! ;)

I have had many different pickups on this guitar, but the SA's are gonna stay for a very long time.

Of course... my taste isn't yours, so you might not like them and the only way to find out is to try them.

It won't be hard to sell them if you don't like them.

    Good luck!

    / Fredric

  • my face just completely melted off after wathing that. fuckin awesome dude!

  • Hope your face fell into place again... thanks pal!

  • forsman you are too fucking good!! i predict you will become very rich!!

  • Nahh... don't think so... there are so many great guitar slingers out there...

  • I would pay to see you play!!

  • Nahh... don't think so... there are so many great guitar slingers out there...

  • hi nice playing , is the cab ure using a marshall 1936 2x12 with the JSX and does the cab work well with the JSX as im thinkng of getting them both

  • I think the 1936 (with G12T-75) is a perfect match for the JSX.

I also have the JSX 4x12 and I think they sound pretty much the same. Just small differences. I have tested a whole bunch of other speakers too, but I didn't like them.

I got a tip from a guy at the Peavey Forum to try the Mesa Boogie C90 speakers. Unfortunately they're rather expensive here in Sweden.

But I'm really satisfied with the speakers that I already have, but you know... always searching for the "perfect" tone...

  • thanks im probably gonna buy it on the next couple of months

  • It's a good buy, so don't worry.

But I would like to recommend you to try the JSX out IRL before buying, cause not all people like it.

    It's kinda not a Marshall ya'know?

I've had a lot of issues regarding which tubes to run the amp on, but I think I've found what'r right for "my" tone. JJ 12AX7 in the preamp and JJ KT77 in the power amp section!

Allright then... good luck with your new amp!

    :D

  • wow. Amazing!!!

  • Yeah, beautiful tone from your guitar. Hard to compete with Stevie but you have a nice take on the song. Good work!

  • Yeah, Stevie really was a one of a kind indeed - no doubt about that!

My take was very spontaneous and I actually had a good time there, whishing I was on stage and all that!

I really love the blues and the possibility to express feelings that you can't do in some other music styles. Blues is a really free format to play over. Love it!!

    Thanks for your kind words!

    / Fredric

  • If we have a soul..it's connected to the blues for sure.

  • Very good and authentic. I like the sound too.

  • Man, I though I played Stevie well.....you smoked my playing! Nice job! You play better when you look away and don't watch your left hand so much. As Stevie said " I play better when I think about where I'm going with it rather than where I am with it"

  • Thanks!

  • Man, I though I played Stevie well.....you smoked my playing! Nice job!

  • Thats a great emulation of Stevie's tone. The JSX is the one Peavy product that impresses me. Are you using heavy strings?

  • Thank you!

No, I mostly use .009"-.042" strings on 25,5" scale necks and .010" - .046" with shorter scales like the Gibson Les Paul with its 24,75".

In this video however I think I had a set of 010 strings on because it's tuned down a half step to Eb, but generally I use what I wrote above.

BUT... I like the tone heavier strings make, but don't like the tension they have when bending.

  • Awesome job, best blues tone I've heard from a JSX, including my own - mind giving me an idea about settings?

  • nice

  • nice butterfly wallpaper lol

  • Leave the beer there, and keep playing... Drink it after you finish, Or I will kick your butt!! Just kidding.. Great playing!

  • noooooo, just drink your beer.... and play, just like me..... *****

  • WOW great job , nice style to haven't seen anyone else do this song without useing a pick .

  • I play my JSX through a Marshall 1960A and 1960B with 70 watt celestions and I love it. Nice job.

  • Huh, I really don't know what took my interest away from the JSX, but as I got here again I want that amp too again. I guess I just have to listen to this and then rush buying so I'll get mine and don't have time to hesitate. Nowhere to test this though... but this sounds awesome (Y). :P

  • Don't forget to try out a couple of different cabs. The JSX doesn't sound good with just any speaker, as a matter of fact I think the wrong cab ruins the sound.

In this video I use a Marshall 1936 that has 2 Celestion G12T-75's which is the best sounding speaker with the JSX that I've tested so far.

Sounds even better than the stock JSX 4x12 (which I also have) Good Luck!

  • What about celestion g12h-30 watters already wore in? Playing and tone sounds great in this video, shows the versatility of the JSX. Astounding!

  • I don't think I have tried those speakers, so I can't really say anything about them. But why not try?

A couple of days ago I actually decided to get rid of the Marshall JVM and keep the JSX.

  • Gawd, i love that sound!

  • holy fuck dude that was class! I've been watchin vids all day as usual and I must say your playing blew me away bro, its playing again for the third time! fuckin mint technique and feel dude, keep it up !!! Subscribed :)

  • Great! If you're happy - then I'm happy too! :)

Happy New Year! (the time is 2.43 PM here, almost evening)

  • Nice sound, how do you get it? I want to try applying your control settings to my XXX amp.

  • Fuck dude, sounds great. Makes me proud to own a JSX. Have you given it a shot with some 6l6's? It's a little more mesa-y, which i doubt is what you're going for, but i mean, if you're up for some experimenting, check it out, i like it.

    Nice tone anyway.

Is this recorded on the cam's mic?

  • Yes, I replaced the EL34 a long time ago.

There are Svetlana 6L6's (winged-C-logo) in the amp right now and I think they sound great.

The sound on this video is only from the video camera.

  • good call man. sounds great.good chops too, and played with soul. keep it up.

  • Why did you change those tubes? I mean did the JSX sound any good without changing? I'm not that into demolishing my stuff that I would go inside those things, but I guess it isn't that hard, better learn.

  • Well maybe it wasn't necessary to change the EL34's... I think my "problem" with the nasty mids were in the Electro Harmonix preamp tubes all the time. I changed them to JJ's which is what Peavey now is shipping the JSX's with nowadays. Unfortunately I don't have the EL34's lefte (sold them) so I can't try them again. I could of course take the EL34's that are in my JVM, just to compare the tone, and maybe I will...

  • Tusend takk for svaret!

  • whoa...the best version of texas floof i have ever heard! amazing blues playing, kudos to you sir! Merry Christmas

  • great playing, and tone..are you switching from channel 2 to 3 in the middle there? using any pedals?..thanks..

  • Thanks! I'm switching from the crunch to the ultra channel at for a bit more saturation in my tone.

The channels don't differ as much as you think it would. The ultra channel has more gain, less mid but has that really saturated tone which allows you to get the tone that makes it feel easier to play faster...

But, in reality, you don't play faster or more accurately just because you have a different sound - if you can't play it - no amp will do the job for ya.

No pedals, just guitar -> amp!

  • Your a good player but visually there's nothing exciting about watching someone sitting down, playing in the kitchen.

  • 3:41 omg thats amazing lol
