  • I dont think his Escamillo is perfected in this scene, I dont like the pitch either, higher than usual

  • One of my favorites scenes.

  • Raimondi: Genius!!! The Brando of Opera! His Don Giovanni has never been surpassed!

  • @JohnKoroly capisco i suoi gusti raffinati in materia ... i francesi dicono :

    la culture c'est comme la confiture,mois on en a,plus on l'étale ...

  • I'd recognize the nose anywhere

  • Raimondis?

  • Terrible sound!! I don't know if it's the movie itself or only the clip. The real Raimondi sounds quite positively different!! See and hear the other clip of this aria posted by Gabba02, much more trueful to his captivating voice.

  • der unvergleichbare Escamillo!...und ein genialer film..

  • Much more than okay, in my opinion...

  • Did they transpose this aria higher than usual?

  • They definitely did. Why do so many high baritones sing this role? I mean, damn, even a tenor could sing in this range.

  • I wonder why the heck they did that when Raimondi could perfectly sing this aria as it is.

  • it may be a match-up to Carmen, seeing as she's a high mezzo-soprano, many sopranos sing her part, alike to tenors singing Escamillo

  • How come? Raimondi has always been a bass!

I have him as Attila , etc. Now he is a baritone and here the score is transposed upwards, to boot!

  • Bass-Baritone. not a bass. he does a BRILLIANT Scarpia.

  • The baritone looks, and even sounds a little, like Mexican ranchera singer Alejandro Fernández.

This is an underrated opera film. Even Plácido Domingo himself says in his autobiography that he doesn't think it's too good, but there are great moments here. And this Escamillo is thrilling.

  • Don José or Escamillo? With THIS Escamillo I have no doubt...

  • This is really, super famous but not one of the hardest things to sing. There are much harder baritone parts in other operas. This is quite easy, a good piece for a good singer to just show off without really pushing it.

  • I think I saw better Escamillos, but he's not SO bad (I think I CAN judge about it cause I sing in Carmen)

    Have a nice day.

    Toreador en garde, toreado,toreador...

  • Sorry. The Picador is the bullfighter who pokes a sort of spear on the bull's neck. I am Peruvian and we have in Lima the Plaza de Acho which is the best in the world after Spain. I am not a bullfighting fan, so I can't speak much about.

  • If you cant speak much about it, then you can´t asure that the Plaza de Acho is the best after Spain

  • I am astounded. I had never heard him singing so well. He has always been a bass and now we have him with a powerful baritone. His figure is excelent too. I'd like to get that picture. His bass was not that good. I have his Attila recording where he sings the title role but Samuel Ramey is my favourite

  • How do these guys have so much energy? It's amazing.

  • I understand its sung in french, but is there some spanish thrown into the dialog? becuz it does take place in spain.

  • Il s'élance ! Il entre,

Il frappe ! un cheval roule,

    Entraînant un Picador,

Ah ! bravo! Toro ! Hurle la foule !

    Le taureau va, il vient,...

Ah, bravo toro is "bravo! Bull" (bravo is spanish for excellent! magnificent! it is lso italian and so it is used in English too.

"Picador" is the bullfighter who applies the "banderillas" on the bull.

  • Yes, there is some spanish. Look for example women (in Carmen) fighting. The sing: No! SI!SI!No!

  • Yes, there is some spanish. Look for example women (in Carmen) fighting. The sing: No! SI!SI!No!

  • Is it just me, or is he singing it a semitone higher?

  • it's so hard to find a baritone aria online!

    only sopranos and tenors!

  • Its great! thank you.

  • Raimondi makes a brilliant Escamillo. His baritone is deep enough without sacrificing clarity ... and what power! His presence eclipses that of the entire crowd - which is the intended effect. Bravo!

  • great"

  • Ottima voce

  • What a performance, perfekt.

  • i hated school music lessons when i was forced to take them aged 11-14 but now i am so grateful that i was, we studied baroque, classical, opera and rock n roll etc and it was such a blessing! i love this song, such power!

  • it is under title "Pres des remparts de Seville - (Carmen) - Migenes Johnson"

  • Awesome, thank you so much!!! Mil gracias.

  • De nada :)

  • Perfecto!

  • He has a very light and youthful tone to his voice and I must admit that I rather like it. :)

  • marvelous!
