  • thumbs up if yuo came here because you know what good music is.

  • Great song

  • Saw Mary sing this at California ballroom 1970

  • @tomthefib Nice! A great memory, I'm sure.

  • The first pop queen, Mary Wells all the others are pretenders to the throne, including Diana Ross, Byonce, Christina, Britney, they can all kiss Mary's ass, Mary Esther Wells Griffin Womack, (Herman Griffin first Husband) (Cecil Womack Second Husband) is the greatest singer of all time, and if anyone disagrees they can kiss my ass, RIP Mary

  • Got here because this was the #1 song on the day I was born, May, 17, 1964.

  • @Mead306 funny, I was here because I was checking the number 1 songs of 1964, the year I was born.

  • love the cartoons

  • I have to sing this solo in school infrount of my hole class and im a male (im not aloud to change the lyrics to my girl)

  • James Jamerson on bass, thank the lord that that man was born. I don't get the hispanic vibe in the art. It's beautiful stuff, but this song is all american (U.S.), from the early 60's.

  • my grandma got me on this song

  • Had the 45 rpm played it out and got another one when this first came out. Love the song! The recording is way better than Mary was in person. She sang too proper on stage.

  • Warpaint covered some of this song! :D

  • Love this song <3

  • sorry, i just can't hear there "my guy" but my god :-D

Where's my walking stick gone to?

  • @CRTukker I hear you. I remember this song also. I was six years old in 1964 and my older cousins used to play Mary Wells all the time.

  • @edinrussell Just a pitty that nowadays no real music is being produced anymore.

The music back then had soul, energy and dedication. When i hear that Justin Bieber then i get sick to the stomach instantly, only money counts these days.

  • @CRTukker So true.

  • @milicnick12 What's "sisters act"??? I know this song for about 40 years!

  • actually i'm here because of friends and an amazing song from Warpaint called Billie Holiday.. didn't know it's a cover..

  • A #1 hit for Mary Wells in May 1964. This was the first #1 hit for a solo African-American female solo artist in the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Cashbox Rhythm & Blues charts and #5 in the United Kingdom. I also remember an episode of Happy Days where Joanie played this on the jukebox at Arnold's, thinking that her relationship with Chachi was over. Thankfully, it wasn't.

  • this reminds me of my ex and it was a song i sang to him...........

  • I am 3 weeks old and I would rather listen to this than small children crying!!! I am SO mature

    please shush

  • Released as Motown 1056 in March 1964 and written by William "Smokey" Robinson. Produced by "Smokey"

  • There's not a man today, Who could take me away, From my guy... <3

  • I heard this in Married with Children!

  • Anytime I hear this I think of Sister Act and Whoopi Goldberg!

  • I was born in the wrong era... [ sighs ] I will i was born in the 50's and 60's, the best music. Nothing wrong with being an 80's baby though.

  • @PrissiMa06 I wish I was born in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's myself

  • @PrissiMa06 This song came out in March 1964! I was 3 years old(Born in 1961)when it was out on the Motown label(Motown 1056)and was a big hit then and still is to this very day! Smokey wrote and produced this track for Ms. Wells! It's on the Singing Machine's "Motown Master Recordings-Original Artist Karaoke" karaoke CD!

  • i love love love this song

  • Btw: There are many comments about how young people are and that it's so special that they listen to this kind of music. Sure there are many young ones who listen to Lady Gaga etc. But there are many examples of young ones(love the word :P) who also listen to this kind of music. Me, I'm a mix of both. So please don't act like you're so special. Really it's great, but we get the point.

  • LOL XD I found this after hearing Warpaint - Billie Holiday(no spam) What a difference!! =D

  • Grew up listening to oldies with my pops... brings back great memories.. LOVE IT!

  • I LOVE MOTOWN!

  • If you like the song, thank reyesm for posting it. If you don't like the artwork, then go find the song somewhere else. If a person takes the time to share something, they can present it in whatever way they see fit. The people who complain the most usually contribute nothing themselves.

  • i remember when cartoon network made bloo sing this in fosters

  • Great quality and I love the art work. It's really nice to see some positive comments on here from the young generation who can appreciate good music :)

  • What's this style of artwork called??

  • i agree i am only 16 and oldies are some of the greatest songs we will never heard anymore. today's music really needs to take notes

  • awesome artwork!

  • thumbs up if you heard this in Sister Act!

  • @Mr300milesofswellnes Thumbs up if you know music by its origin :P

  • @Mr300milesofswellnes all you people who ask for thumbs up are faggots..

  • @EatMyHamWallet but what if you agree with that person who made a comment?

  • @willpwns: I think it's great that some of the younger generation is taking the time to appreciate all music options. I believe that the art is put up by reyesm13, the person who posted the song. I think that the art shows a great deal of talent, but even if it's not something that is your personal style, I hope you will continue to enjoy the oldies posted by this person because they are some of the better classics.

  • friends times :D

  • I am only 14 and i listen to this for hours! I would rather listen to this than rap anytime

  • @willpwns1 I found my guy finally and this song says just how I feel about him.

  • @willpwns1 That's why we loved it so much when we were your age! :)

  • @willpwns1 I am 12 xD And i do the same!

  • @willpwns1 It says you're 25 on your profile..

  • @LyricalWax I lied :) i dont remember why though.

  • thumbs up if you wanted to dislike it for the pictures but liked it for the song :)

  • did you all know that Mary Wells and Ritchie Valens have the same birthday? May 13 as well as Stevie Wonder & Bea Arthur

  • I'm only 17 but I've known this song by heart for years! When I was in eighth grade, one of the girls in my class started singing the song. Pretty soon, a good portion of the class was doing the hand clapping and the call backs. And no matter where I'm at or what age I am, if someone says they love 60s music, and if I ask them if they know "My Guy", they just automatically start singing it! Thanks so much for posting it!

  • reminds me of Woolworth

  • the warpaint version is amazing, its called 'billie holiday'

  • 20 people didn't stick to their guy.

  • I was 16 when this hit the charts. A white kid going to parties and dances, wearing skinny, shiny suits with skinny-ass ties and lovin' life. Everyone in North America was listening to this. Chicano, Black, White, you name it ... the artwork of any culture belongs. The music belongs to us all. This is the music that broke down barriers.

  • the pictures totally ruin the song!

  • MARY WELLS DIED IN 1995 THROAT CANCER

  • @OldGoldSoul she died July 26, 1992 she was a family friend

  • The artwork makes all the sense in the world for this video, if you're familiar with Chicano culture; and I'm white.

  • james jamerson on db?

  • mary wells was the best ever......

  • I loved the way this was used in Worried About the Boy xD gotta love the oldies

  • Number 1 in May of 1964

  • This video is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.

  • this song takes me back to a simpler time

  • Agreed, even though it's before my time, i love the classics.

    horrible video though... doesn't suit.

  • cool song

  • My guy....:)

  • How could you insult such a great, classic song with such sh*tty art work?

  • @kjeirstin80420 aint insulting sh1t homeboy, why cant u shut shut the hell up and just listen to the great tune and not worry bout it

  • Cute and delightful song. I've always wondered about the insertion of 'Canadian Sunset' in its beginning (and it was repeated in the middle).

  • I heard this song at a Starbucks... I like it... Chill

  • Billboard's 147th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless! RIP, Mary.

  • Those Motown musicians were amazing. Great piano line intro from Johnny Griffiths, Earl Van Dyke on the organ and a smooth shuffle beat from the great Benny Benjamin on drums.

  • nice artwork

  • What in the hell does this have to with mexican gangsters??

  • The art in this power point is freakin' awesome!

  • wooooooot this song rocks

  • haha when carlton sang this in fresh prince.

  • @JCRoWnFlip

  • Hey all you hot shot tech drummers and prog tard types? When you can play this song like anything like this you will be a great pro drummer.

  • Who are the best drummers to listen to?

  • Brings back a lot of memories...I remember I asked this girl for her phone number and she said "sure I give it to you, so I know its you let it ring 3 times hang up and don't call back"....

  • oldies are the bestt! simple as that.

    :D

  • fuck i use to play this in the car with my guy but not anymore we broke up....

    i miss him....

  • I may be 16 but i LOVE this song. Oldies are way better than modern stuff well excluding muse and eminem

  • @pooeyyeoop1 YOU! Have excellent taste.....

  • @MissMinnieMousegirl Thank you :)

  • @pooeyyeoop1 i agree and im 13 :)
